limited cassette tape version! for the third installment of his petestrumentals series, producer pete rock takes a departure from the sample-heavy style that has earned him recognition as a living hip-hop legend. this twelve-track project is instead a collection of beats crafted by the producer, then reimagined by his stellar band, the soul brothers - drummer daru jones (jack white), keyboardist bigyuki, bassist mononeon (prince), guitarist marcus machado and vocalist jermaine holmes (d angelo), all critically acclaimed musicians in their own rights. after performing together across manhattan, cementing their creative bond, pete rock & the soul brothers combined their individual musical influences and experiences to craft a smooth sonic experience that is truly the sum of all of its stylistic and instrumental parts. petestrumentals 3 is a masterful blend of funk, jazz, hip-hop and soul, a mellow soundtrack for any occasion.

der in texas geborene rhythmus- und bluesgitarrist melvin sparks war einer der großen des soul-jazz. melvin spielte mit lou donaldson, leon spencer, bernard purdie, jack mcduff, jimmy mcgriff, idris muhammad, dr. lonnie smith, charles earland, grover washington jr., reuben wilson und so vielen mehr. auch in den leisesten jahren des soul-jazz blieb melvin durch hip-hop und r&b aktuell. diese veröffentlichung dokumentiert melvins letzte band, nur wenige monate vor seinem tod. der organist beau sasser und schlagzeuger bill carbone arbeiteten seit einigen jahren mit sparks zusammen. die tracks auf diesem album, liebevoll gemischt von gitarrist, produzent und melvin sparks-fan eddie roberts, zeigen, dass melvin auch in den letzten monaten seines lebens wie zu jeder zeit spielte.

after the release of their collaborative breed ep at the end of last summer, nicole moudaber and skin (from skunk anansie) have unveiled their highly anticipated remix package featuring a long list of respected producers. carl craig, fur coat, jamie jones, jerome sydenham, paco osuna, pan-pot and scuba, are just some of the names which have turned their hand to the project. originally born out of nicole and skin s desire to fuse their rock and techno backgrounds, this is a true collaboration project with a difference. the pair have also recently been sharing the stage at high-profile slots such as space ibiza and coachella. the first track on the second part see s don t talk to me i m dancin remixed by hot creation boss jamie jones, which features a thudding heavy bassline, and zebra katz vocals sampled over the top. the second track on the a side see s french emotive techno specialist paul ritch turns in an atmospheric, driving remix of these walls are made of water . first up on the b side is pan-pot s take on these walls are made of water , adding the duo s characteristic stomping touch, as well as dramatic new synth melodies. this remix is another nicole favourite, often featured in her sets and her in the mood radio shows. rounding off the b side jerome sydenham remixes don t talk to me i m dancin feat. zfk and takes the track into uptempo driving territory.

ambassador of dark, driving techno nicole moudaber, has teamed up with skin, the multi-talented skunk anansie front-woman, established dj and fashion icon, for a collaborative ep entitled breed .

another fine example of funky-soul at its very best. while the a-side is highly regarded within the northern soul scene, the b-side is the tune why funk 45 collectors are after this beauty. bot sides were recorded in the early 1970s and pressed on a small press run on 45rpm single. original copies are nowadays very hard to find and due to the outstanding quality sought after by record collectors worldwide.
