berlin-based markus schatz is no stranger to cargo edition. in 2009 he released his first ep >drippin< on this leipzig-based label. this track has since found its way into the sets of numerous well-known djs. markus schatz recently passed his certification exam qualifying him as a professional sound technician, an excellent reason to celebrate with a new release. his latest album for the leipzig-based cargo edition label contains 5 tracks, all of which perfectly reflect the unique charm of markus schatz. the tracks are deep, yet excellent for deejaying and go far beyond the ordinary dj tools. schatz collaborated with markus homm on two of the ep tracks - >i need< and the digitally available >feels like home<. the two artists met as labelmates on the berlin-based label highgrade, on which both have been releasing albums for quite some time.

there is a new name on cargo edition, but by no means an unknown one. as a dj markus schatz has been on the move for years now, all the while maintaining his roots in the berlin club scene. markus started producing in 2004 and both his solo eps and collaborations with tom clark on highgrade records and opossum recordings last year clearly demonstrate that his talents go far beyond the turntables. and now for his first ep on cargo edition, markus takes a step further into the musical spectrum. drippin is a nimble house track accented with a note of funk and the smooth vocals of sean andino, giving the track a slight pop-appeal. in contrast flippin gives us a beautifully reduced form of house all driven by a powerful rolling bass line, a textbook example of less is more. as a perfect ending restart surprises with its smooth house arrangements and sophisticated deepness. a truly versatile ep from a truly versatile producer.

along with number 60 in the highgrade catalogue there�s a new producer team, joining the highgrade posse: markus schatz who scored so far with releases together with tom clark for highgrade and by himself on labels like opossum and freizeitglauben. he worked out this release with brett longman from paris, known from one of france�s most prolific labels logistic rec. with �dope on plastic� both start a dub and percussion rollercoaster- ride: the stripped down structure in the beginning unfolds seamlessly to a wildly grooving dub-inferno. similarly funky �push it� continues this direction: dodgy fm-sounds meet weird synth bleeps plus a whole load of rhythm - the trackname is to be taken literally here! on the flip-side schatz & longman in �running� are adding some fine dubby ingredients to there rhythm patterns, next exit detroit, one might say. moody without being cheesy, that�s how we like it. �good vibes� is zigzagging elegantly, with deep pulsating melodies worked together with an uplifting groove to a fast-paced and atmospheric track.

it hasnt been long time ago since the last coup made by clark and schatz hit the streets but highgrades head-honcho tom clark and the true berlin talent markus schatz allready go for the next round. the original version of >hot choc< makes the start - playfully swinging, the track developes itself into a masterpiece of an easy going groove without being half bad. the french dj and producer tom pooks - well known for this productions on ovum, kompakt and other wellsounding imprints gives >hot choc< a whole lot of jacking energy to take along. he sets the percussive elements free - and rightly so! punch meets hypnotic deepness - perfect! with the hot choc re-edit on the flipside by markus schatz he eventually letting the cat out of the bag. without any detours and in best daniel bell-like mannour he jump into a real inferno made of funky bleeps and weird sounds. delivering with this one more than just another highlight on this release - because last but least it�s the best evidence, you gotta reckon with these two!

this is the second release on ek records from the two berlin musicians schatz & wickinger. the first release >aufziehvogel< on ek records getting fast to a small clubhit. on >the swarm< they use dry minimal beats with strings which is strengthen by a squeaky synth. the synthy hook after the break makes the song to a raveanthem and we are sure that the song advanced to a small hit tune again

>aufziehvogel< is a pumping, percussive tool which comes with a smooze hommond string with a taste of minimalism. on the b side we have a tigerskin remix, and he makes the <aufziehvogel> very dirty and dark

wie der film ist der soundtrack ein bastard. soul, garage und rock ergeben einen lässigen retrosound. eine abgefahrene und gedenkwürdige mischung aus rammstein, james brown, den Ärzten, den white stripes und johnny cash.

two of paris� most respected artists get together for their second collaborative extended player this year. dan ghenacia and chris carrier have been entrenched in the electronic scene in their hometown for a long while now, both men building a strong rep through consistently great music and dj performances. earlier this year they joined forces on �just a sin�, released via carrier�s adult only label, now they�re back with the follow-up on apollonia. across three deadly tracks, the duo explore their love of music making machines to the fullest � each track taking its name from �sweet heart�, translated into different languages. �schatzi� works off a modular synth, bursting out of the blocks with a wobbly bassline which supports a range of subtle effects together with infrequent vocal clips. as the track progresses warm rising pads and female vocal snippets create an entrancing atmosphere. next up we get an arabian twist with �habibi�. a pervading air of mystery presents itself right from the off, with warped voices lurking in the background as the rhythm lures you into its murky groove. as the track progresses more eerie pads and effects are layered over the stepping bassline giving it a very creepy feel. finally, french vibes comes through with �cherie� on side b. the track draws its energy from the busy, though crisp, percussive elements and a b-line that groans in unison with the beats. a simple chime remains present throughout, keeping it minimal yet interesting.
