this is a long awaited release on theomatic from a russian-born (now czech-based) house-quartet d-pulse. this definitely should have happened before as all d-pulse members and theomatic’s commander andrei zakharov (an-2) are fellow-townsmen and have known each over many years. d-pulse are known for their expressive live performances (guitar, bass and keys), everything you hear they play live and their unique vibe can shake any audience, be it hip moscow cuties or shy hick-town chicks. the band’s hectic schedule has put this ep on hold for several months, but at last guys managed to organize themselves and lay final touches to the production. the a-side is a mellow, spaced-out disco jam called ‘prekrasna’ - the russian for ‘beautiful’, especially when referred to ladies. the dancefloor-aimed ‘moments’ on the flip side starts off with hypnotic, dubbed-out guitar and atmospheric synths laid over fat house beat. it gradually leads to the breakdown followed by guitar driven blast-off and takes you to the orbital heights from wherever you are.

we are delighted to announce the wagon repair debut of montreal native stephen beaupre. one half of crackhaus, a long time collaboration with deadbeat, stephen has recently released solo material on labels from musique risque and ~scape, and put out his debut album on mutek’s own imprint in 2006. in honour of the great ancient persian empire, ‘achaemenid’ roams stridently with tight kick, clangorous melodic cascades and prodding rhythmic tones. ethereal string pads and moaning atmospherics imply conflict, narrated by catchy vocal passages from beyond the murky depths. a reverberant rhythmic synth line injects life into ‘lotus eaters’, with static vocal samples and penetrative melodic tones forming sonic structures around deep tom and rattled hat. grossly intoxicating, elements lull into a mellow haze before reanimating into a wildfire finale.

pissinboy was originally italian artist andrea pirovanos solo project, it became a duet when graham mushnik joined him a year ago. based in london, the band presents here four 3 chord harmonious scruntch pop songs they recorded in their basement. while the ep kicks off with a punchy minimal drum guitar track, always find you, it ends in a mellow mood of trumpet and choir. pirovanos songwriting is simple and strong, and mushnik is unstoppable.
