the third in the modular techno series from live analogue artist and freerotation organiser steevio. after 15 years of producing techno live on hardware, in 2009 steevio began building a dedicated machine on which he could totally improvise an entire techno performance from a blank canvas that far surpassed anything he could do with his previous setup of drum machines and synthesizers. steevio’s modular is 100 analogue, there is no computer involved, there are no memories to save sounds or sequencing patterns, and everything is improvised in real time.. volumes 1 and 2 of the series were just a taster of what was to come, and were the early experimentations on steevio’s newly built machine. steevio records everything he does, especially during the intense practice sessions for live gigs. all the music in the series are out-takes from these practice sessions, and the tracks from volume 3 and the forthcoming volume 4 all come from a three day period in practice for a recent live gig at delete, bournemouth, uk. volume 3 continues from where volume 2 left off but delivered with more confidence and a deeper more hypnotic feel. steevio continues to develop his skills and fine tunes his unique instrument in this dedicated for life project.

these tracks magnitude and direction is best understood when the dislocation-bearing crystal structure is first visualized without the dislocation. in this release structure, once the encompassing track is drawn, the dislocation can be introduced. this dislocation will have the effect of deforming, not only the perfect crystal structure, but the track as well. the direction of the vector depends on the plane of dislocation, which is usually on the closest-packed unit of a low-frequency cell.

>hi-tide lo-fi< can be read like a sonic map. but instead of a static picture its a growing and evolving concept of explored and lived in space. every space creates its own sound. not only because of the physical premises of a place do we experience sounds differently but also because of our perception and construction of space. and as each sound does have an individual meaning to us so does each space. our identity is directly linked to our access to sound and space. benjamin brunn is questioning these access possibilities and offers us a soundscape of fluxing indentity. within a timeless sound lies the opportunity of liberated being.
waehlscheibe stays true to its dub house approach last heard on waehl 003 with p.laoss: the swiss label has compiled four wonderfully relaxed and dubby tracks by various artists for release 004 – again vinyl only! alessandro crimi starts the record off with his incredibly deep >gravitation< which revolves around an ultra wam and morphing pad. s&ros >drunken hats< is just as funky as its dubby and perfectly fits the labels philosophy – just like a.s cudias >cadendo< which relies on super sweet rhodes and pianos to form a deep and melodic house song – two fantastic tunes. baldo from spain finishes the ep with his smooth oldschool house track >deep & down< which delights with tons of machine funk. waehlscheibe continues to amaze with these four musical gems that underline the labels talent to assemble brilliant musicians and compile wonderfully deep records. once more all tracks have been mastered by above smoke at the hole of dub studio.

collaborations are often the fortune of timing. with andy having moved on since closing the dissident label to launching his cave paintings project to tim s departure from battant and striking out as andrew weatheralls engineer and soon to be co-member of the asphodells, an alliance was born between the two to undertake a series of live jam sessions at eachs respective studios. a love of new wave, new beat, uk bleep and detroit techno all feature in b-ultras and the aptly titled, neu beat. both cuts are heavily soaked in the pitch black, smoke machine funk and strob-laden fug of andys (and co-hort joe hart) infamous world unknown dancefloor. running at around 10 minutes the tracks are essentially an examination of acid houses ideals. clattering hats, throbbing basslines, stabbing keys and doses of 303. keeping it pretty simple but all about a pure groove on and on. backing these up is a remix of b-ultras from jamie paton that accentuates the groove and drags the acid deeper down to some b-boy dub throwdown - with more to follow from all protagonists in 2014.

sect returns to the heart of the history once more. chicagos legacy is finally represented on the label by one of the finest producers of this city and sound, dj skull. words cant do justice to the legacy of this legend of house and techno music. for almost three decades skull has produced of some of the finest dancefloor tracks ever made, be it through saber (trax), djax, hybrid, majesty recordings, tresor, or many others. here the dark knight offers four very special cuts that reaffirm his legendary status. the title track combines the most up-to-date techno production techniques with the inimitable chicago jacking sound. *promise of peace* retrieves traditional house values on the mellower end of the musical scale, while *reboot* gets back to the straight-up techno, with some nicely understated acid elements, and finally *big girls* is informed by both reggae dub and forward thinking techno.

ltd repress !!! another main player of the current elite of deephouse producers makes an anonymous but definitely not impersonal appearance on the ever great story imprint. right from the beginning of >fascinated< we get slowely woven into a maze by the spellbinding introduction of a sultry soulstress and when the eeriy string, gentle harp sweeps and a swinging yet almost coy beat fall in it only adds to the feeling of hazy, latenight intimacy. >taj mahal< has a more robust, earthy beat with tabla and deep twangy sitar sounds panning around, making you see all these groovy colors and feel like you are lifted above ground and even >you better find a job< - despite its title - doesnt even try to pull you back to earth and into dull reality. its warm pulsating bass, psychedelic feedback and flanger sounds much rather urge you to flip that record over again and stay in the groove
