jesper dahlback is one of swedens leading djs/ producers with a lengthy back catalogue to his name, including co-production on two tiga albums, the hugg and pepp project with cousin john dahlback, and remixes for the likes of rex the dog, zoo brazil, arnaud rebotini of black strobe, thomas p heckman, robyn, the knife, and depeche mode. jesper has music in his genes, but it was the musical movements in detroit, berlin and london that inspired him to start producing techno, back in 1991 in his bedroom studio. completely hooked, by 1993 he d formed the stockholm-based globe studios together with peter benisch and adam beyer (following a chance meeting on the train to love parade?) and has worked there ever since. in 1996 jesper started the imprint, blank, mainly for his own material, and simultaneously launched joint venture dk with thomas krome - one of the first labels in sweden with a techno house crossover approach! in addition to making music for various techno labels around the world and working with planet rhythm, jesper met up with swiss-born stephan grieder who had just started the svek label. the duo started to experiment with different sounds, drawing on house musics roots, utilising vocals and acoustic instruments. jesper now describes his sound as >ranging between the analogue sounds of the roland sh101 and the precision mathematics of my computer. i m a researcher and developer of unheard sounds! since the founding of globe studios, i have always been looking for new ways to bend the rules and test the unknown. when i dj, i just play my own productions blending old classics with new unreleased demos.< a producer first and foremost, jespers dj dates find him weaving a soundscape of his productions, remixes and collaborations with new material at every gig, as well as musical elements and sounds worked through the set. one of his favourite current ventures is his part in jori hulkkonens acid symphony orchestra.

2009 is quite obviously sven tasnadis year, having already released five eps this year on cream-of-the-crop labels like pokerflat, ornaments and liebe*detail. each ep revealed a new facet of the leipziger, riding the nuances between the 4/4 beat. after his ep >down under influence< with juno6 in spring 2009, tasnadi now dishes up his new solo ep on cargo edition. >what we do< is a classic housetrack - very deep and peppered with vocal shots that hold the tension of the track over its whole length. it s smooth, yet deliciously rough around the edges. >amour fou< on the b-side surprises with a very compact rhythm - around the driving bass drum fly percussive elements, all tied together by a reduced bassline, some interspersed vocal samples and deep chords.

the model is no stranger to gigolo, and we (the royal we) are no strangers to the model. as a supporter of gigolo records, you, our fated reader, should be familiar with our protagonist previous gigolo adventure. but in the words of the late george harrison, >all things must pass< and with this in mind we would like to reintroduce...
the model doesnt just have his own sound, he has in fact attempted to engineer his own genre: dark-techno-baroque. the sound has been crafted through a penchant for aristocratic mannerisms and a passion for high fashion and low fetish. it also happens to pretty succinctly sum up part of his unique personality. set against a backdrop of refined charm, there s an underbelly of something dark and brutal, which is possibly the best way to describe the a-side >in the night<. in many ways this could be seen as a return to form for gigolo, immediately poppy but structured as a classic song with haunting vocals underpinned with a driving techno rhythm. to further consolidate the techno aesthetic look no further then >flex on the b-side and you have a pounding track that could have been played by daft punk in 96 and will probably find a home with a diverse selection of djs today.
the >vampire funk ep< is the first release from the models forthcoming album on gigolo. the concept is in the same vain, but delves deeper into the dark-side of the model. exploring his fetish with the night and creatures that occupy its opulent corridors. like classic transylvanian tales the music from this album will present details that set the mood and composition to create tracks with narrative regardless of lyrics or words. the result being music that moves both bodies and minds and stirs the blood. as pretentious as this sounds the author of this mindless scrap of paper has the fortunate privilege of speaking from experience. as the mind that moves the hands that moves the keyboard is the mind that is being moved by the music as i type and you read. so we are already part way there. the rest will unfold in the coming months.

some sublime athmospheric techno tracks that go somewhere between dubstep, detroit techno and broken beat / garage. roof light did an excellent job on this 4 track ep with tracks that are light but full of emotion and athmosphere. radiance is for sure one of the high lights with its minimal funky bass line and cut up beats and massive strings layered on top. around here is the main track with its 90s two step rhythm and its deep athmospheric sounds and vocals. ltj bukem goes dubstep? not sure who is the producer... but if its a debut its pretty impressive. great release! must have for all the martyn and 2562 fans!

boris ross solo ep on his own luxaflex imprint. after a series of great remixes and releases on labels like oproof (rum), stolen moments and luxaflex its now time for the solo ep! an icredibly funkie house / minimal release for all of the headnodding crew out there. build like only boris can with its funky rhythm and fast edits and chords. some hidden vocals in there for your pleasure.. i want to ask you.. uhm..

hot new remixes by electric indigo, mutron and akiko kiyama. moonraker has become an ep that is among the best house music has brought us last year. (mix mag). the original house mix, which is a deliciously nasty reflection of the outfits sinister electrohouse sound. the rather minimal introduction is soon enough spiced up with a clash of synths that sound industrial and melancholic at the same time, thereby creating a dreamy and utterly brilliant vibe as spacey as spacey can be. it s proggy, it s electro, it s on the edge of deep house too, but above all, it s absolutely amazing. frank muellers america mix takes care of the final remix with a more uptempo and more towards progressive club rocker featuring brilliantly sampled vox, shifting synths and lots of deep sound waves. whereas the previous two tunes engage on a hypnotic trip, this one shoots the listener even further beyond the stars right into the unknown depths of space. the uptempo rhythm is what makes this track an absolute insane piece of progressive/deep house music, and therefore a definite must-have. you simply can not afford to let this ep pass you by. 365 mags absolute number one ep of this autumn, and unlikely to be bettered this year.

following up the intrusion & paul st. hilaire project comes a new release from the intrusion imprint which offers a killa selection of steppas riddims and tropical grooves. intrusions >velocity in a minor< is all about being playful with a sequence, splicing a riddim, stimulating the mind while shuffling your feet. this concludes with the mysterious lo-fi soundsystem up next who make their first 12 inch appearance on intrusion (previously recording under a variety of names strictly on 45) their powerful >de lions den< has been given a second lease on life from its scarce 45 release, (which was only available at a few small record shops in jamaica) this island groove is filled with the dankiest skanks, a melodica on acid and a bassline deeper than the ocean. this mystical midnight groove is given a rework in a 4/4 rhythm and effects from deep space, behind the controls is intrusion front man stephen hitchell who leaves us with a tasty embellishment in fat riddims and icey cold electronics. the b side opens with mildious >de natura rerum< which crosses into territory comparable to intrusions >tswana dub< or the atmospheric dub side of rhythm & sound, a powerful mind melter which does all the rights things in all the right time. the closing >oceanview< paints a picture of just that, leaving you to wander off into the ocean breeze while sinking into its smoky green vapour haze.

the first release on clapper is by swiss dog dachshund. a side: patte d oie is the name of a neighborhood in dakar, senegal, where dachshund was hanging out back in the days. this track is infused with the sounds of cora, a west african guitar, and wrapped in a heavy drum-kick that fluctuates from highs to lows, creating a hypnotic bass line. b side: bread. the second track is a smoother work that keeps us going with a steady rhythm, airy yet solid like a cloud that cannot evaporate

rebolledo is an artist from xalapa, mexico, who is very much part of the comeme family of latin american artists. he s been around from the early days when he used to provide music for the buenos aires based bumbumbox street parties. so far he s had tracks on previous comeme releases, notably pitaya frenesi, but this is his first full release on his own. rebodello is the consummate comeme artist, with a quirky sense of humour, a unique latin american approach to dance music and a lean lo-fi approach to track making that is built to cut through on any sound system. lead track >guerrero< follows in comemes now established strange sense of humour, guerrero means warrrior and is a track about a >guerrero< who comes out at night and dresses in leather, it s all shouted vocals simple beats and 80s style synths. venganza y seduccion means vengeance and seduction and features suggestive panted echoing vocals over a cosmic disco bassline, while atmospheric chords build in the background, if this sounds strange it s because it is, but the combination works really well in a club.
the b side of the record is much harder and more techno-like - marchante is completely different, aggressive kick drums, a pulsing bassline and siren-like synths bring this track a panicked feel, which is offset by the way the drums build into tough patterns. raid features strange nonsense vocals over a pulsing rhythm track that reminds of old chicago acid, if it wasn t for the strange atmosphere. rebodello is a very welcome addition to the world of dance music.

hit!!! a straight up techy dance floor stomper... grrr has a buzzing bass-line and pulsating rhythm sits perfectly alongside a thunderous kick-drum and cleverly thought out percussion, whilst rising fx sounds weave in and out of the mix!

technopassion release number five delivers a tremendous blast of techno sound from george le nagelaux that no one can resist. the a side features a massive remix from belgiums ambitious techno star stephane signore. he made a truly energetic version of no resistance that goes forward with melody driven raw power. surely one of the top tracks of the year! the b side features the straight funky original version and our species will not survive , a track that is, as the name suspects, pretty dark. rumbling bass, catchy oldschool synthlines and propulsive beats are the outlines of this piece. no resistance ep is a solid, rhythm packed bundle of uplifting techno music, so go and get your vinyl copy of this one before its out of stock!

son of sound aka henry maldonado has been a fixture on his native new york house scene since his first strictly rhythm release way back in 1992. with releases on henry street, emotive and cutting, amongst others, its no surprise to find big apple funk running strong through this, son of sounds three track tirk debut, full of rolling percussion, hypnotic riffs, downtown disco and artschool funk.

this one was a smash all last year at the john waynes beach parties and its not hard to see why. beautiful and hypnotic naive melodies intertwine with a gently bumping rhythm with plenty enough groove to get you off the sun lounger and dancing on the beach/by the pool/on the roof (delete as applicable). perfect for the summer that keeps threatening to happen in the uk but that we never quite seem to have, time to go on holiday. theres a killer piano part that comes in later in the second half after the clip finishes

after the success of their collaboration with paul thomas on last years festival anthem >arena<, mark knight and funkagenda join forces once again on one of the most eagerly anticipated tracks showcased at this years miami wmc.
>good times< is the feel good anthem of the summer comprising of a modest intro with a warbling bass line driving slowly through collecting sounds, before opening up into an edgy synth stab and finally the insanely catchy vocal hook >these are the good times<! the track drops back in like a speeding locomotive train going full steam ahead, with cleverly placed percussion, fx and siren sounds soaring to create an intense rhythm.
on the flip, >flauta magica< shows the diversity of these two acclaimed producers when they get in the studio together. taking a different route from the lead track and concentrating more on the groove, >flauta magica< chugs along nicely with an almost tribal percussive feel to it. the excellent chanting vox sample, reminiscent of the early house sound, keeps the groove rolling along into the drop. taking the lead from the tracks name, a whistling flute riff drops elevating the musical vibe to a new balearic level.

slam bring us the third chapter in their devestating paragraph series, following up their dancefloor destroyer, hot knives that was played by the biggest djs around and dubbed as one of carl craig s favourites of the last few months. the label s previous releases have already had big support from the rest of the techno fraternity, including legends richie hawtin, adam beyer, dubfire, anja schneider, len faki and francois kevorkian.
paragraph number 3 delivers some deep, bass-heavy electronic funk on the a-side, with one note samba . grooving from the off-set, the percussive elements of the track wind around a solid and heavy sub bass, introducing dubbed-out horns reminiscent of slam s freelance science days. hypnotic and tripped out, slam return to their house roots.
on the aa room 2 , dedicated to one of the world s best clubs, fabric, where slam hold a residency, keeps with the stripped-down, rhythmic and gritty sound of paragraph. whilst constantly fluctuating echoes and delays control the rhythm of the track, a swirling, yet straight to the point synth creates some frenzied and panic-inducing builds throughout, leading to a wholesome and satisfying ride cymbal. room 2 is a killer, peak-time track that will be sure to induce some serious convulsions on dance-floor.

for release n° 28, long-time clr artist alex bau returns with two massive new tracks full of good ideas and positive energy. chris liebing had the pleasure to play out the disaster-mix for quite a while and to convince himself of the unexceptionally sensational crowd reaction. the rhythm is permanently varying, the atmosphere often changes immediately and the sounds come and go in surprising ways.

olmeto, a small town in corsica, is infamous as the birthplace of the family vendetta. we chose the name as it has an air of mystery but also a bit of fire. we felt that we wanted a label with us as the only artists free to do what we want, how we wantà this is release number 23. all have been ours, and range across the house spectrum, vocal, minimal, tech and deep and probably a little of each in all. the raw road and madagaskar whilst different, are made from the same mood. a strong rhythm with elements brought in and out, like a good dj, you lock the groove and then begin to play around it. although all tracks are by us, we do bring in artists we like to remix from time to time. the raw road will be remixed by mark broom and nic fanciullli and they will join artist such as loco dice, green velvet and unkle who have both remixed tracks over the course of the label.

basti grub is a specialist for xtraordinary and outstanding productions.. loving music from his early childhood on and he seems to have a different approach to electronic dance music. these 2 tunes here are wonderful rhythm driven latino techno tracks with spanish guitars and wonderful auto tune vocals,... sommertag is the perfect open air tech house tune and hihihihahaaa could be the next number one in the brazilian baile pop charts even though it perfectely works on any european dancefloor too.... additionally we have a tech housey dancefloor tool rework by dj emerson

after a winter break and a with new focus on original and forward thinking house, boe is back for 2009 with one of the hottest detroit artists to break onto the scene in years. kris wadsworth is a man who truly has his own unique production style. for years the term minimal has been banded about for music with little soul, originality and that essence of dance music, a groove. kris is a guy whose interpretation of minimalistic music oozes all of these qualities and much, much more, stripped down, funked up house that takes the listener back to when house was raw, full of energy and brimming with soul. his production resembles that of an early herbert, crunching and twisting his way though drum samples and polished chords to create a sound that is simple and intoxicating yet difficult to copy. less, it seems, is most definitely more. dig is kris first four-track ep and showcases his sound through four slices of deep, groovy late night house. the first track the depths of is kris sound summed up in just under nine minutes. the first three minutes belong to a long intro that builds and builds through vox snippets, stab samples, synth chords and h-hats that ride the groove. the track breaks down only to kick back in with a chunky snare and trippy pads to whip the listener into a frenzy. macrotones is a wonky late night rhythm synth track that wouldnt sound out of place at fabric at 7am. on the flip, white bread kicks off where the depths of left off, a catchy rhythm with swinging stabs and moody chords. a growling, gut-moving baseline makes the track a real dance floor favourite. the final track on the ep is haunted house a deep houser with a delayed bassline perfect for those late-night moments.

some notorious electronic music talents have started their careers as percussionists. and so did yaya, but his tale is different to all the rest. his new release for desolat takes a unique, upbeat approach to 4/4 beats: combining heartfelt benin influences - samples from dialogue and traditional ballads - with the stretched-out tension and release of balearic and the bubbling pops and stutters of tech house, plus the occasional kickback to a commodore64 high score melody. raised in turin, italy, rhythm was his lifeblood for yassin legali, also known as yaya, from an early age. his father was the lead vocalist and percussionist for mbamina, a band consisting of musicians from benin, zaire, italy and cameroon. mbamina released eight albums, collaborated with artists like manu dibango and salif keita, were sponsored by paco rabanne and played all over africa, including a show for the presidents of senegal and france. their final show was with james brown in paris in 1985 - the year yaya was born. well-versed in his fathers legacy, yaya grew up playing drums and djembe, and at the age of 15, began performing as a percussionist in turin clubs. just one year later, he was already djing, playing funk, soul, afrobeat, house and garage. manu dibango and fela kuti found a spot in his crate next to records by masters at work and dimitri from paris: contrasts of rhythm and structure that pervade his music to this very day.
