stella polaris is celebrating record store day 2014 with the very first vinyl release of these 2 classics from the stella polaris compilation series. these two tracks are among the most popular remixes, that stella polaris has released since the first compilation. tina dickow aka tina dico break of day (the stella polaris allstars remix) is from the very fist compilation in 2005 and choir of young believers hollow talk (lulu rouges stella polaris remix) is taken from the 2012 cd the second magi number.

while it may seem as though it has been a quiet year in the studio for brooklyn-based dj/producer greg schappert (aka donor), his first full-length album entitled against all on chicago-based prosthetic pressings, will prove otherwise.

the globally trendsetting house and techno family that is visionquest now turns to a new pairing of sonny fodera & gene farris for their debut ep on the label. entitled ‘we work it’, the two-track affair comes with a remix by visionquest man lee curtiss. australian sonny fodera has been at the sharp end of the dance music scene for years now, clocking up huge hits both solo and with green velvet aka cajmere, releasing albums such as afterparties & aeroplanes and appearing on cajual, defected, suara and many more top labels. gene farris, of course, is a chicago house legend who has been active since the nineties, runs his own farris wheel label and has released close to one hundred definitive eps on relief, soma and many others. up first, ‘we work it’ is a lithe ritual of house funk with bent synths and slick mid tempo drums. a spoken word vocal snippet muses on the intake of various substances and the drums roll on infectiously below. it’s sure to be a standout anthem in the months to come given that vocal line and the spiritualness of the keys all around only adds to the effect. the first remix comes from lee curtiss. this one is a much quicker and more peak time bit of tech house with textured, dynamic bass and plenty of drum fills. it’s an involved, more cosmic and tense take on the original, that will build great pressure on the dance floor. all in all this is another on point package from visionquest that will get played far and wide

we are deeply proud of all our music here at hizou. our latest release, however, we believe is just that little bit special. because we welcome to the label a producer we much admire and also proudly call our friend, w & p hgg aka hugo giner, owner of the formidable cornuta sound imprint. and his ep, down for heaven, is notable also for marking the debut of a new partnership, the sons of empire, otherwise known as those two masters of the deep, ernie from minuendo recordings and dubbyman of deep explorer. it is giner’s unique soul, however, that takes centre stage with side one devoted entirely to its 13 minutes of glorious, irresistible and uplifting house odyssey. on the reverse comes welcome, a chunkier though equally hypnotic slab of sly deepness, ably supported by the sons of empire remix which takes the track to a more chilled and, dare we say, funkier celestial plane.

cult electronic specialist enzo elia (balearic gabba sound system / el freakadelle) has long been turning out hot edits and remixes on hell yeah, always inventing new genres and creating compelling grooves as he goes. now he is back with his own original ep featuring feat italian jazz singer roberto cherillo aka rokkerillo. this ep finds enzo going back to his techy roots and comes complete with remixes by the legendary dj kaos (of jolly jams) and with a terrific version produced along with jazz trio, 3io.

the next release on rinse is the second in a series of three eps of gorgeous, punch-drunk house music from label regular rupert taylor, aka xxxy. the follow-up to last years acclaimed 18 hours, it is a further spiral inwards for the tripped-out, wistful style he has increasingly come to make distinctly his own, with clouds of arpeggiated synth notes and vapourised voice rolling atop pillow-soft, droning bass.

having made a brief appearance on omnidisc alongside danny daze on the four ep, drvg cvltvre steps into the spotlight for a full solo release. a prolific producer from an underground punk diy background, vincent koreman aka drvg cvltvre was previously known for his experimental techno releases as ra- x in the 90s, on labels such as bunker and kk records. stepping up to the new omnidisc imprint, he delivers an ep packed with uniquely gritty, yet melodic techno weapons. as an extra treat to those who purchase the vinyl copy of the ep, a secret download link to two more tracks will be provided.

after a stunning three part compilation released in the second half of 2014, dutch label field is back with another album project, this time from american producer christopher ernst, aka l estasi dell oro, who also records as penalune and is co-founder of the voodoo down label. before now, ernst has proved himself to be adept at crafting deep and atmospheric, excellently ambient techno on a range of labels. varying his tempos and textures, he does acid, raw stuff, tough beats and more industrial grooves. across this new 8-track album, all this and more is explored in captivating fashion. this is an expressive and expansive modern techno album from l estasi dell oro that is perfectly at home on the always interesting field label.

nach einem fulminanten debütalbum, das sowohl dancefloors der welt als auch kritiker außer atem ließ, kehrt jeremy guindo aka bambounou nun mit *centrum* in albumlänge zurück. guindo benutzt verspielte electro-synths (echter electro, siehe detroit), die den hörer in einen trance-zustand versetzen, der durch die peitschenden percussions von tracks wie *each other* gestört wird. im gegensatz zu *orbiting* bewegt sich *centrum* eher weg von bass und footwork und hin zu ambient und techno. *centrum* ist keine reine clubplatte, die von vorn bis hinten mit brettern vollgestopft ist (obwohl fähige djs trotzdem viel stoff finden werden), dennoch werden auch die *orbiting* fans wieder begeistert sein. das doppel-vinyl erscheint im klappcover, inklusive poster und downloadcode.

2014 was a big year for scott moncrieff aka thatmanmonkz. not only did his own label shadeleaf become firmly established he dropped brilliantly received releases on both kolour ltd and here on d.o.g.

benson herbert & leo picking aka voyeur stepped onto the scene in 2012 with their *blame it on the youth* ep, released through kerri chandlers then fledgling madtech imprint, the new jersey legend has mentored the duo ever since shifting them onto parent label madhouse with the *rain away* ep and featuring a voyeur remix of his and jerome sydenhams *mama* on his watergate compilation. here we see the pair return to madhouse with their soul-infused sound that has seen them pick up support from the likes of norm talley, nicholas and john daly.

after an excursion in initiating their new subsidiary city fly records ltd to release new, interesting projects - in which they presented a super exclusive in the form of a beautifully packaged limited edition clear 10 inch by uglyink aka drum machine deviants and aural aestheticians ugly drums and inkswel - city fly are back in familiar territory with some house flavour on the hallowed 12 inch format.

nico groove aka nastyboy has dropped hot releases for labels: on the prowl, shift ltd and underground limited. here he handles the task of producing v1 of klapmasters nu groove records tribute series, influenced by rheji & rhano burrell. handmade label rework by resident artist jordan fields.

celebrated and mercury-nominated uk duo rae & christian released their first new material for ten years in 2013 on night time stories/late night tales after spending the last decade meditating in a buddhist monastery in swindon. this year the label commissioned a series of remixes from mercury rising and mang dynasty (aka ray mang & bill brewster) take on favourite game featuring rising star of the swindon buddhist circuit jake emlyn. mang dynasty focus on gita langley s backing vocal hooks adding a chorus piano motif and stretch things out into an epic nine minute plus main version aimed squarely at the dancefloor (and afghanistan). jake emlyns more aurally-pleasing melodic parts are utilised towards the end taking things up another level to a happy finish. initial reactions have been so strong it seemed rude not to slip out a 12inch on mangled, home of the hits!

jesper dahlback aka the persuader and nima khak present >through the cusp< the second release on sand under there newly formed swedish naan boys moniker. the release contains three raw analogue dance floor excursions. from stockholm with love.

position 12 inch is a story telling record inspired by the childhood of romain azzaro, aka rouge mécanique. one introduction and two dance pieces extracted from the crude reality he had to experience at an early age. the evolving sound of this ep throws its listeners into the dark and violent places that belong to his past. the childish melody of the intro suddenly opens on an intense break beat and ends with vimory, a brutal and profound track.

mr ks aka jean-pierre baroni is one of the latest emerging talents from french electronic music, alongside a new generation of artists from france who are making a serious impact on the house and techno world. a student of classic chicago and french house, mr ks dishes up an exemplary 4-track ep on the ever-impressive music is love label, complete with high-grade remixes from french compatriot mr g and label boss oli furness.
