following the release of 2015’s animistas album on mindtours, steevio returns with the fourth and final volume in the modular techno series after starting the project in 2012. initially conceived as he moved his studio practice towards a purely outboard, analogue, modular synthesiser set up, the modular techno series has charted the development of steevio’s exploration of this working practice both on record and on stage. the work involved in live appearances across the uk and europe over the past four years have fed into the creative process, with rehearsals for sets often yielding the material that has ended up on vinyl. volume 4 is arguably the darkest instalment in the series to date, dealing in a strict economy of minimalist rhythms and off-key melodic touches while still easily identified as the unmistakable tones and distinctive grooves of steevio. in the grand tradition of techno as visionary music, the dystopian tone that lingers throughout modular techno vol 4 points to a future of uncertainty, but this is far from nihilistic music, always within the darkness remains a glimmer of hope.

this is the second episode of our various artists serie. the fallen (a collaboration between plural (james johnson) and fbk (kevin kennedy)) opens the e.p. with interference, a fast paced killer hypnotic dance floor friendly dub track: they create a sound that is unique, fluid and extremely danceable. philippe petit follows with exposed, a stripped down, bleepy bass-heavy rhythmic piece of techno. julixo brings us own structure, an aggressive jackin techno track leading to a warm synth line that will leave nobody indifferent. terrence dixon closes the e.p. with odd numbers, a track that only him can do. sub bass melodic techno reduced to the max: ace!

jongno edits is a homage to the golden age of k-pop: psych-rock, funk, disco, boogie… 60 s, 70 s, 80 s… countless hours spent getting our hands dusty in the record shops and flea markets of jongno-gu, the central district of seoul, in order to dig out the ultra-rare gems from the land of the morning calm . expect a complete reinterpretation of hard to find music, masterfully looped, edited and remastered for your listening and dancing pleasure! the first volume, a limited edition of 300 hand-stamped white labels, contains two tracks: the a side is a spacey edit of south korean ballroom disco. the slappy intro is followed by a rolling bass line, keeping the groove locked for the tape delay expeditions. side-b is a cut and paste of a classic disco-rock tune. k-pop history right here!

fifty first recordings was created in 1994 out of a small but very productive studio in london called state 51 using the down time and the very talented engineers who had been brought together for state 51 s existing clients. state 51 was the go to studio for the likes of x-press 2, sharp, amalgamation of soundz. the engineers we worked with included mark woolford, james brown, james reynolds & mark yardley. fifty first recordings soon found a name for itself and was very quickly at the forefront of the new generation of uk garage music. we produced and released music in the 90s, for over 7 years, with the likes of tuff jam etc. and later went to develop other imprints such as konnect / test press / unda vybe / spread love / tick etc., some in partnership with producers and managed artists.

keith tenniswood returns in 2016 with dub vault vol. 2, the second emission of dubwise productions under his radioactive man moniker, originally recorded a decade ago while based in scrutton street studios. a long time fan of roots, reggae and dub here he fully indulges in the genre whose keystone bass weighted sounds have informed the electro-focused designs he is predominantly known for. explosion begins the ep recorded utilising new toy at the time, a korg esx1 sampler and sequencer, resulting in simple but crashing dancehall beats with a diliinja style bassline that is pure roughage. second track razor sees tenniswood also take up the guitar as well as beat programming in this track named after the * stepping razor* peter tosh and a nod to his music hero adrian sherwood and on u sound vibes. blazer rounds off the ep, a collab with long term dub head and band member with keith from bargecharge (check fuel records early releases late 90s) james foster. tape echo and distorted bass make up the thick sound of this trac

wade from hello records called mr. pc “detroit’s hardest working dj” about a year back, and the fruits of his labor shine through on this curious beatdown and jazz funk re-edit record. in his own words, “the scene doesn’t need another hand-stamped and numbered vinyl-only disco edit label, so i went ahead and took the proverbial razor and tape to some jazz-fusion-disco-not-disco tracks that influenced me coming up as a bass player, now fully capable for dj dance floor elevation.”

hot off a couple of 12” from topher horn, rocksteady disco follows up with its first compilation featuring a heap of heavily sampled originals from more well-known editors. pontchartrain leads the release off with a summer-inspired aural prozac number, just in time for this june release. next up is notorious detroit editor lafleur, busting out this original milky-smooth detroit boogie house production. a slight little rearrangement from rocksteady disco label boss peter croce makes this one a bit smoother for the djs. lyon, france’s g2s kicks off the flip with a big-bottomed stomper reminiscent of some mcde ‘raw cuts’. pontchartrain book-ends this release with a track that puts the ‘rocksteady’ in rocksteady disco, with heavy analog-meets-electro drum programming and complete with pontchartrain on vocoder duties. hand numbered edition of 500 copies with dl code.

out electronic recordings introduces the second installment of different seasons various artists series after kicking off the first one with tracks from fabrizio lapiana, regen, civilian and limo back in january 2015. out-er sets ‘different seasons vol.2’ as the twenty-first vinyl release on its way – as the first volume, the record embraces melodic techno tracks and introduces new and old faces to the roster. on a side attic music boss fabrizio lapiana appears on out-er again offering ‘square’, then the experienced dj luciano esse offers ‘the call’ following to his very first ‘the green ep’ released on the italian label back in 2012. flipping the record over on b side and lachriz’ comeback on out-er sees the debut of his moniker ‘farron’ with the ethereal cut ‘travelling through your mind’ – while the newest artist on board hydergine provides a dub techno journey opting for a swinging, fresh piece typical of his production imprint.

volume 2 pools more of demi s extensive network of friends and is truly a heavyweight mix of reworks that each shine in their own light. leading the charge is a masterful re-intepretation by one of the scene s truest artists in eric volta who came to be known to the masses thanks to his club smash hit love your illusion on no.19 records. volta completely flips fresh & made on its head with a sonic exploration that is typically understated yet full of tension. the mix glides through a range of emotions and helps expose pagues vocals in a new light and demonstrates once more the studio prowess this man has when he is given free reign to manifest his mind onto the mixing desk.

another fine reissue of a chicago classic from jeff craven and his large music imprint focusing again on the dynamic artistic team of black ice productions. first released in 1992 on velvet city records, the black ice ep treads more into a deeper and jazzier vibes than their other outings at that time (such as the union camp release). a few listens and one can easily recognize the influence that all four tracks had on future labels and artists throughout the mid and late 1990 s. this is timeless, pioneering chicago deep house at its finest and a must have for all collectors.

repress ...rounding out this iteration of the moods & grooves classic series are two of its best selling releases from one of detroits most prolific producers, theo parrish, and label head mike grant. the mr. g remix of my soul, my spirit nets a pretty penny at the online marketplace so if the steep prices have deterred you, now is the time. chunky was produced during the time theo was a leader of detroit s raw & dirty house sound.

nacho marcos warm trax vol. 1 was an ovum highlight in 2015 and a much welcomed return to the label for the spanish producer. vol. 1 with its rich analogue textures and acidic flair, picked up a wealth of support. today nacho returns with vol. 2 and a new trio of trax for our trip.

sound carrier volume 8it’s back to the cosmos with the latest instalment in chris carrier’s always-on-point series, sound carrier. the label is a home for the prolific paris artist’s techno stylings, and no.8 in the series focuses on a galactical fight theme – taking us from terra firma up into the skies and beyond. the first track, ‘alien blaster pistol’, couldn’t be more self-explanatory. mysterious keys parade over an ominous bassline while the beats keep things moving neatly. gentle chimes and bleeps are added, initiating a dialogue between the various high frequencies located in the top end. next up is ‘mahem (magneto hydrodynamic explosive munition)’, which steps into familiar sound carrier territory, that is… slightly unhinged. rolling along at a steady pace, the tune is rough, yet light with shimmering effects and charming wobbly chunks of bass. on side b chris gets gnarly on us with ‘earth invasion’. it’s the beginning of the end, so of course the music has to match that frightening prospect. gruff beats and stomping bass collide with cymbals, crunchy snares and mutant acid licks to create a beast. finally, ‘haumea brigade’ takes us into the twilight zone again, whirring fx float above hard-hitting beats and a mean b-line. eerie pads help to maintain a chilling tone throughout. deadly, the soundtrack to the end of days here on earth... prepare to evacuate!

the clone basement series dedicated to the true spirit of techno and music that excels in a dark smokey and isolated basement (including the dark corners of your brain) comes up with its first album release. this album explores the spiritual side of techno with a full length album by finnish artist aleksi perala constructed from parts of the various colundi sequence levels presented so far. this is a limited triple album containing the spirit of the colundi sequence and showcasing the multiplicity of emotions and conditions as defined through the colundi scales.

martin landskys long association with poker flat recordings continues with yet another exquisitely realized three-tracker. long since a staple of the underground electronic music scene in berlin and europe in general, landsky’s deft ear for dynamics and sense of off kilter dance-floor knowledge continues to do the business for djs and dancers alike. after the great success of vol.1 , landsky now presents ‘ekko traxx vol.2&#8242,,,. ‘echo my head’ is the perfect example - driving, focussed and funky, yet with a subtle undercurrent that keeps you slightly out of your comfort zone and locked in to the groove. weird night contains a spooky, discordant synth that raises the tension over and over, before giving way to a hard driving rhythm track that will see the late night heads fully losing themselves classic landsky style. that organ has a similar aesthetic, chunky rhythms and bass pulses for the floor, and synth stabs and melodic hooks that keep the track in constant forward motion.

der titel ist programmatisch. 1976 im new yorker hunter college aufgenommen, steht der große blues-sänger und gitarrist john lee hooker alleine auf der bühne. nur auf sich selbst konzentriert, spielt er den blues in seiner reinsten form. dieses album wird nun erstmals auf vinyl veröffentlicht (downloadcode inklusive). dies ist teil 2 der aufnahme seines legendären konzertes in new york, was ursprünglich auf dem label tomato veröffentlicht wurde. wie ein jazz-musiker, liebt john lee hooker es zu improvisieren. so sind die hier vorliegenden versionen einiger seiner größten hits wie “boogie chillen” und “hobo blues” einmalig - im doppelten sinne dieses begriffes. der im jahr 2001 verstorbene john lee hooker gilt als legende seines fachs. er spielte in dem film “blues brothers” mit und ist unter anderem mit einem stern auf dem hollywood walk of fame, der aufnahme in die blues hall of fame und die aufnahme in die rock and roll hall of fame geehrt worden.
