arrestar, hailing from brussels, is the second belgian artist releasing on token. he sent me this killer idm/techno track some time ago and it was immediately a favourite of mine. i fell in love with it the moment i heard it. in the end, it just needed a release. im not the only supporter of this track: inigo kennedy, oscar mulero & grovskopa love it too, so they decided to contribute with each another interpretation of the track, which in the end results in a diverse package.

zuckerwatte is the second single from oliver koletzkis new album >großstadtmärchen<. and zuckerwatte, which translates as candyfloss is a truly magical tale about love and loss in the big city. the original features juli holzs softly whispering voice that is so very fragile, and so very beautiful. this is a softly grooving electro-pop discovery. but of course this song has also been transformed for the dancefloor on this single that also features two more tracks from olivers album. first up is the remix by david august, one half of the duo august & bachert who delivers a top-notch glitchy tech-house edit that makes great dramaturgical use of the original track. next up is björn störigs vision of zuckerwatte. the drummer of olivers live outfit the koletzkis envisions juli holz perform her sweet and sticky singing over some neo-soul tech-rnb influenced electronica that features a spanish guitar, some great claps and some very nice synthesizers. on the flip there is koletzkis instrumental house-homage kusskompatibel and these habits, on which only seventeen-year-old singer pyur makes her debut. she sings wonderfully harmonic over this down-beat trip-hop groove and it results in a great hit for the late summer. this single is more than a single. its the best thing before the album

one of rough trades island 50th anniversary selection - 50 crucial titles, specially selected by us to highlight the unique contribution this seminal label has made to british music since 1959. the results of nick drakes solo sessions were as harrowing and stark as anything by robert johnson or charley patton. enclosed in an inner world of psychological distress, drake recorded pink moons dispatches from a private hell that was simultaneously terrifying and beautiful. both the lyrics and the melodic motifs are pared to the bone here, their simplicity making them all the more immediately striking. the most nakedly emotional and disturbing moment is probably parasite, a visceral but mysterious account of a disconsolate soul roaming through the world in search of succor, with drake taking the starring role, ultimately offering, take a look, you may see me in the dirt. this was the end of the road for nick drake in more ways than one, but just the beginning for the scores of songwriters subsequently inspired by his bleak but beautiful visions.

big love go from strength to strength next up for them is up n coming french producer romain curtis teams up with seamus haji and rising swedish star awa on vocals for this sublime track that should do the biznizz this summer. romains club mix has an infectious feel and teases the chorus vocal to crowd-pleasing results. seamus hajis vocal mix rushes straight to the top of the anthemometer whilst his dub goes deeper and tuffer with a slight tribal edge. all round dirty/techy/funker filthy rich really goes for the peak time slot making great use of the vocal for light relief

time to express is pleased to present the first results of the collaboration between italian producer donato dozzy and colognes finest, cio d or. both artists have recorded seperately for labels such as wagon repair, railyard, aquaplano, motoguzzi, broque and treibstoff. a great three track ep with dirty minimalized techno killers that must be played out loud for full effect! somehow reminiscent to the good old days from minimal unit moebius and plastikman tracks.... when minimal techno wasnt about pleasing the crowd (which it did after all). 3 tracks with deep sub bass driven grooves and distant melodies that move in spirals in and out of the mix with a moving and twisting beat. it s sour and dirty, with a touch of that particular blend of mesmerising techno both producers are known for. the peter van hoessen mix is more upfront and in your face. mental introvert techno tracks that will take the party to another level! tip!

a: the flight: the deadly combination of rune and sydenham who brought you the classic >elephant< are at it again. >the flight< is a tech house delight. futuristic beats combined with old school snares and rhythms and a subtle hypnotic vocal will draw you in. the simple organ stabs glue everything together. a damn fine track that will surely cross genres. b: the >crossing< is a humping dubby deep techno monster. the bold bass line drives forward while the fanatic efx put you over the edge. the rhythms are constant are the results are deeply satisfying.

beeing together in the studio for a while - here s the results: take me to mabayi features a nine minute ecstating ride - accentuated by a pulsating, hypnotic, rhythmic and gradually building melody and compelling breakdown. 100% sure with ricardo villalobos, loco dice, mathias kaden. la trutruka - golden version combine emotive slackin house beats with synthesizer washes and constant, rolling rhythmic underlay, straight and right down to the last detail with the la trutruka riff - for those who knows and some vocal samples. these are three small dissertations that connect rhythm based house-paced hills with modern dance music and experiments with synthetic song structures

as costello continues to look long, the grooves continue to flow. lng3 sees the reissue of the deep house classic pleite which originally appeared on trapez in 2003. recorded in dublin in 2002, this version has been mastered at dubplates and mastering, berlin in 2009. the results are stunning and serve as a welcome reminder of costelloÆs deep roots. pleite (costello dub) in particular could teach some of todayÆs hyperactive producers a thing or two about setting up a solid groove and letting it sit. the timing of this reissue could not be more perfect with regard to the current musical zeitgeist. the title, a german colloquialism for broke or indeed bankrupt which was an in-joke at the time of the original release, takes on a new significance in the context of global economic recession.

when we first started thinking about the compilation, we had in mind the idea to put together a great minimal techno selection with stuff from the early 90s, which really inspired us, like robert hood, dan bell, plastikman, pansonic and mike ink to name a few. whilst working on the project we had the feeling that there is so much more great and influential minimal music from way before the techno thing started. so we were very excited to combine the music from the electronic pioneers, with the tracks from the minimal techno godfathers in a very modern way. in minimal music there is so much (space) in between the sounds and the space that gives you a lot of opportunities for an own interpretation. the grandfather paradox is a scientific theory about time travelling and was first described by the science fiction writer rene barjavel in his book - le voyageur imprudent. we took suggestions out of that because we felt like we are travelling back in time and manipulating the old music with modern knowledge. the fact that we did all this with the deserved respect to the originals makes us quite sure that the results are bringing something new and interesting to the old tracks and transport the past into the here and now. - henrik schwarz, ?e & dixon

swoosh was without doubt a major underground hit in 2008 with top10 positions in all sales and dj charts. the best possible base for phunklarique & pierce to team up again this year with a massive followup named womba to continue their journey on yellow tail. plays by gorge. harada, plstik funk, ... again, it s kind of a split ep, with two totally different versions of the same idea - creating atmospheric grooves with each their unique style that has individually brought them support from all over the globe. phunklarique concentrates more on the minimal side of electronics with deep bass, a sick leadline and stabs that continuously build up in a very hypnotic way, while pierce gives it a slick, but modern housy groove with sirenlike horn sounds. we have been testing these out on the floor for quite a few weeks with amazing results, so check it out and see what it does for yourself

paul carpentere is now to be considered one of the most talented young deejays of the italian panorama. right after producing a couple of remixes with great sales and dancefloor results, here is paul presenting his first single which has been tested in various clubs by many deejays with very good response - keep your eyes open on this guy since you will hear a lot of talking about him in the near future.

electric arguments is the first fireman album in 10 years, and this song based album couldnt be more different than its predecessors. for those who dont know by now, the fireman is a collaborative project between music icon paul mccartney and revered producer youth. the pair first worked together in the 90s when they made two ambient dance albums. originally the firemans identity was anonymous and was eventually revealed by the press as being paul and youth. in september it was announced that the fireman would this year release their first brand new material in a decade and this time there was a big difference - the duo had found their voice. speculation began, one studio insider was reported as saying the new songs sounds like arcade fire meets led zeppelin. certainly so far, anyone who has already heard the album has commented on just how accessible electric arguments is, compared to the first two fireman albums. this album is an eclectic and diverse collection of songs that show paul is still interested in pure musical possibilities. each track was written and recorded in the space of one day. the fireman went into the studio with no plan or clear direction of how they wanted the album to sound. the project took a life of its own and the results will surprise anyone expecting to hear the previous sound of the band.

fusing some weird italo-ish vibes together with some unmistakenly drexciyan influences this is a pretty unique release on rh! concepts often bring interesting results and this is no exception.. i think its going to be a real >love it or hate it< record. yurotrago take the track somewhere completely different, stretching it out on a different kind of vision. awesome deep and moody action for the floor. the packaging is awesome for this one

transmissions florales is massis first vinyl release. the density of the 808 drums reminds us this is synthetic from the start. but as the the swirling, phasing 7th chords and the crystal-like lead tones build up and blend with the laid-back wah-wah guitars, this simple song take us to some sensual, forgotten place with swaying limbs and flashing lights. with a few changes in structure and the timbre of the bass, the acid mix proposes an alternate scenario - gliding to the edge of madness with a wink at raving in the late 80s. are we in the disco? or at the seashore? keep on moving, keep on flying. bionic gulls call to each other over the oceans arpeggios. >alpha base< uses a similar synth palette, but with quite different results. rather than waves, this piece seems to evoke dramatic weather over a jagged terrain. the funky, syncopated bass and percussion remind us of some ancient tribal ceremony on parched soil. odd sound effects imitate the heat and sudden shots of lightning, while the ascending pentatonic breaks suggest a primitive electronic geisha, draped in mylar foil, deflecting the suns rays as she dances for the gods. she performs an intricate sequence of steps, each with its own placement and hidden meaning… having spent the past 2 years entertaining crowds at underground clubs in berlin and around the eu, massi is already somewhat known to those who enjoy dancing to whatever is eclectic, energetic, and atmospheric. now, perhaps more people will hear his special groove. we hope you share our joy, our obsession… and the particular oscillations from this very personal >transmission florale<

on his second ep for myself recordings, erell ranson returns with some new results of his recent studio work. >where the clouds are< shows his true colors, dark, deep techno with a solid detroit-esque feel to it.paul macs remix is more traditionally structured and floor friendly. he pushes the pulsating drive of the original to a maximum, to create a deep club track that will fill the floors all over the globe.deep detroit techno is fast becoming one of the trademarks of myself recordings.

a big remake-version of lenny kravitz all-time-classic: rock & pop meets perfect vocals meets finest elektro house sounds. this single already took the top 10 in the danish sales charts without a problem! the vinyl also includes the long-awaited and exclusive remix by ph (remixed mondotecks alive with massive worldwide results).

volume two from mcedits shows a slight expansion of his concept, but mostly hews true to the rows he hoed on volume one. his method is basically to take lovely ballads and slow jams and add a little house heat. its really remarkable how such a simple methodology can produce such effective results but the proof is in the grooves so drop the needle on these for some rich rewards.

hot on the heels of the fantastic guy j ‘geko’ bedrock keep up the pressure with a storming release from techno maestro christian smith. this techno tinged 2 tracker, will delight both house and techno heads alike as christian brings his trademark sound of days gone by, back up to date with fantastic results. with its beautiful pads rising over a hypnotic bassline and chunky percussion, ‘flyer talk’ is a driving melodic builder guaranteed to have the floor on fire. on the flipside we have ‘friendly skies’ which takes on a similar vibe with more of a hook. the big funky bassline is going to make it tough to choose between which one to play! – my advice: play them both!

played by karotte, l.garnier, steve bug, sebo k, mike shannon, layo, d julz !!! we are pretty sure that maetrik sent us his latest ep from a grow room orbiting the earth. his space chronic ep combines the innovation of techno with a sense of fun missing from your average four on the floor banger. its a little shocking, but the results have been exactly what wed expect from the dallas native - mass freaking on the dancefloor. the albums lead single, sex with bass, explores the type of low frequencies that usually occur when suspension bridges tear apart. all the while a subsonic voice repeats its desire to have sex… with bass! stab jockey throws a techno curveball at the start, utilizing rhythmic synths over a simple beat. dont trust it! midway through, the line clears out for full-frequency busting bass drops. on the flip, crawl machine immediately builds a head-nodding groove that wastes no time firing off its boosters – half the track is a sneaky buildup. by the time the kick slams back in, youre already back in orbit. cuban born maetriks techno pedigree is bulletproof.

long and sleepless nights were the inspiration for slaapgebrek wich means sleep deprivation in dutch. the results of these sessions are two moody & hallucinogenic tracks, wich represent a state of mind only to be experienced after many restless nights. the original mix with its freaked out shuffled drumpatterns, rave stabs and maximal modulated bassline is peaktime dancefloor fudder for any crazed techno night. frustrated bleeps and fx give it a nervous twilight zone like feel, climaxing and clashing throughout the track. the flipside takes things on a lighter, more emotion ridden tip. the rhythm is stripped down of all nastiness and the bassline friendlier and melodic. halfway through the break the violins kick in, resembling the break of dawn after another night of turning and twisting without getting any much deserved rest. perfect afterhour material.

thumping house gear from ferrer and sydenham on this 10inch release on ibadan. behind a booming bassline and a little french kiss synth influence as well, double penetration is perfect for that late night floor action, with a little progressive feel in the sweeping synth lines setting it off just right. both mixes glide effortlessly along - in fact if you get 2 copies and play both sides one after the other, the results would be outstanding!
