we have been a fan of motor city drum ensemble since the brooding and eerie >escape to nowhere< in 2007 - a track that sounded like someone had listened to > french kiss< on acid and then tried to recreate what they heard. so when we started re-issuing romanthonys classics with fresh remixes, mcdes danilo plessow was always someone we wanted to on the project. it has taken 2 years to organise this mix and now it is finally here it doesnt disappoint. taking on > trust<, most people would head straight for the vocal but plessow instead eschews that idea for a warm, low slung dub mix reminiscent of muzique tropique and early glasgow underground releases by studio blue. as a more dj-friendly alternative he also delivered a completely instrumental dub mix.

wonderwheel recordings is proud to present the remix 12 inch for alsarah & the nubatones. called the new star of nubian pop by the guardian, the album, silt was produced by alsarah who describes the sound of silt as east african retro pop – it is music that harkens back to the hazy sounds of 1960s and 70s nubian music with its haunting instrumentation, soaring vocal melodies, and pentatonic arrangements.
the original song *soukura* a small taste of the upcoming album silt (out on 3/11) gets a signature deep and entrancing ancestral soul remix by african house legend boddhi satva. perennial wonderwheel favorite the spy from cairo gives *nuba noutou* a dubby dancehall re-rub, and label head nickodemus takes *rennat* into late night house territory with his remix, letting only the slightest of vocals come through and build tension until the final moments of the tune.

nach unserem geglueckten label-auftakt in 2013 wollen wir dieses jahr direktdaran anknuepfen. den anfang machen unsere residents der ersten stunde,kuriose naturale, mit ihrem debuet-release. die ep heisst >some might work< und laesst damit eine menge musikalischen interpretationsspielraum.der a1-track traegt den titel >madame psychosis< und hier ist der name dann auch gleich programm. durch seine duestere sound-aesthetik erzeugt das stueck eine einzigartige spannung ueber die gesamte track-laenge, die einen ganz sicher in ihren bann ziehen wird. weiter geht es auf der a-seite mit >up from here<, der deutlich groovebasierter daher kommt. getragen wird der track von kurzen aber doch eingaengigen vocals und einer hypnotischen synth-melodie, die einen fast schon an film-musik erinnert ohne dabei natürlich den fokus auf die tanzbarkeit zu verlieren. die b-seite beschäftigt sich dann ausschliesslich mit dem ep-titel >some mightwork< - angefangen mit dem gleichnamigen original, welches zunächst etwas vertraeumter daher kommt aber spaetestens ab der mitte des tracks seine clubtauglichkeit voll unter beweis stellt. den remix hierzu steuert kein geringer als kellerkind bei, der eine wunderbare oldschool-house interpretation angefertigt hat. durch die vocal-schnipsel aus dem original, die warmen chords und die voluminoese bassline fehlt es wirklich an nichts um auf jedem house-floor dieser welt bestehen zu koennen. wir freuen uns wirklich sehr mit diesem facettenreichen release ins neue jahr zu starten und hoffen sehr, dass ihr die freude teilt!

hot on the heels of bmm 002 comes the latest instalment of the birdsmakingmachine series – bmm 003 – a package combining their signature sine-bass laden grooves, steel drums and oblique melodies. >antonios swing<, as the title indicates, literally swings listeners into its rhythm with dark vocal snippets layered onto soft stabs and eerie melodies. >woodpeckers<, on the a2, takes a more linear approach, an effective dj-friendly tool that will please dancefloors in the late hours of the night/early hours of the morning. on the flip, in >silk road< we find a captivating, yet mysteriously funky minimal house affair that builds and builds until finally erupting following the break. the ep is rounded-off with >dead lines<, a broken themed galloping of bass kicks fused into moody melodies and reverberated far cries, resembling a genuine excavation into the depths of house music – another example that the birds are always trying to redefine the genres boundaries.

i believe uses dubby drums and an infectious vocal to really tear things apart before dropping into a melodic synth section that will make anyone move. tantras melodic groove synths help this early morning track really come into its own before the main melodic section, accompanied by strings, will take any clubber to their own dimension
