founded in september 1981 in orléans, and originally dedicated to a kind of ‘modern punk rock’, d.stop released a first 7’’ the following year. this impossible-to-find debut release is now reissued on vinyl for the first time. the three tracks of the original 7’’ are augmented with 4 tracks that are released on vinyl for the first time ever on this very nice translucent vinyl 10’’ plus download code. after this first 7”, sonny brailleur (vocals) + phil lethon (guitar/bass) + klod lelook (organ, synths, drum-machines) , inspired by french band metal urbain, stylistically transformed into a more ‘synth punk’ kind of outfit and released their first mini-album nouvelles du front in september 1983 that has been reissued by desire on vinyl last september. one year after, the band already ceased to exist – or actually changed the name to les visiteurs du soir – to turn back to the old name in 1985 by releasing a limited cassette. despite the very few releases by this gifted act, d.stop are considered to be one of the most interesting and under-rated cult acts in french cold wave.
bon voyage is an ever-shifting constellation of musicians led by paris-based producer and bass player adrien durand. durand was first spotted in 2009 by jamal moss, boss of renowned chicago label mathematics recordings, which released durand s solo effort (impersonnel naviguant) under the moniker les aéroplanes. that first record, done using a very academic house music setup consisting of an eight-track cassette recorder, a drum machine, a cheap analog synthesiser and an even cheaper sampler, caught the attention of such dj s as beautiful swimmer and toby tobias. for his bon voyage project, durand recruited drummer nicolas ballay and keyboard player/engineer maxime kosinetz. while opening for legendary italian dj daniele baldelli, the band caught the attention of chicken lips s steve kotey, who released bon voyage s first two records (sorciers des aéroports, l imposture) on stendec, a new imprint created for the occasion

max guld was a post-punk musician from glostrup, denmark one of the western suburbs of copenhagen. in 1983 he formed a band called den forspildte elite with a friend from high school taking inspiration from experimental art punks the residents. from the beginning of 1984 to the beginning of 1985, he recorded a solo album in his 30 square meter apartment. the result was a 40 minute cassette titled for enden af corridoren released in 1985 on hub records that was limited to 100 copies.

sheik ‘n’ beik are a nyc based cohort specialising in promotion, production and outletting leftofcentre slices of electronic music. with previous releases from family members derek marin, voiski and peter corvaia their 4th release comes courtesy of danny wolfers (a.k.a legowelt) working alongside rush hour regular xosar under their xamiga alias. with this being xamiga’s 3rd release, the pair draw for their trusted arsenal of analogue gear and offer up the ‘bohemian grove’ ep, a woozy brew of foggy textures, gently frazzled hats and detroitindebted grooves. the title track kicks things off with glassy pads sat atop a longtailed thud and a sandy shuffle. a distant bass groove wades in ahead of a passage of intricate, bandpassed percussion and a circling synth line before ‘cumulus versie’ sets sheets of ethereal vocals and synth strings gently ducking under a taught analogue pulse. ‘midwest’ then sets hissing kicks and frayed hihats alongside a rasping bass tone. pitchbent synth lines then bubble into focus before ‘blizzard’ sets a dystopian tone from the off. a stout kick drum thunders under minorkey chord shifts and a menacing sequence that works to round off another fine addition to the sheik ‘n’ beik series.

electronic emergencies is proud to introduce ceci n est pas, a synth wave project from new york consisting of nico nightingale, pierre klein and jorge socarras. nico nightingale is the man behind neud photo and earlier worked with pierre klein as neud. jorge socarras was singer with synth maestro patrick cowley in the 70s duo catholic, and with 80s cult band indoor life. together, they started ceci n est pas in 2014, and this 7 inch -the last time- is their first release. the title track on the a-side is an irrestisibly melancholic and romantic synth wave pop song, while b-side -the stranger- has a mysterious and yearning feel.

rat life returns with the pagan rites on catalog number 4. little is known about the band from sweden, first signals were received in 2010 when they submitted their track 03 to the ifm demo contest. in october last year rat life sent out a submarine to search the swedish coast line for the small hut where the duo records their songs (apologies to the swedish authorities at this point, who confused our research with a russian military threat). all four tracks are packed with bittersweet melancholia, reflecting the neverending darkness of cold scandinavian winter, still the midnight sun is always in sight on the horizon! already recorded between 2008 - 2013, rat life records is very happy to finally make this music available on vinyl.
portion control is a british electronic and industrial band from south london. the trio of john whybrew, ian sharp and dean piavani started out experimenting with electronics in 1980. linking up with in phaze records, they released a number of cassettes and records before signing with illuminated records in 1983. there followed a series of classic 12inch singles: raise the pulse, rough justice and go-talk, which have become underground dancefloor hits. the band classifies their music style as >hard rhythmic electronics< and were a major influence on skinny puppy, front line assembly and depeche mode.
van kaye + ignit is the dutch duo of ed van kasteren (van kaye) and ignatine bekken(ignit), who joined forces in the city of arnhem during early 1980. while at university, van kaye was the singer of the monomen, a local new wave band. by the end of 1979 he had become more interested in the use of electronics and rhythmic industrial patterns. in april 1980 he released a demo cassette with 30 minutes of his own work titled a slight delay.

its release time for house is ok! frankfurt based label waited a bit longer than usual for its co-owner marko pelaic aka homeboy to come up with new sounds so it doesnt really surprise theyve decided to let him take over this, one man reign ep, first of that sort for this etiquette. kaprije is not only news for the label but homeboy himself in a way he defined it as writing a new chapter, stepping away from traditional house music, exploring more of the experimental and modern sounds a direction hes interested in continuing.

last year we released aaron ahrends first brief embrace ep, which received lots of great feedback. ada (pampa) took newborn and started to do a remix. at the same time she took some larvae as pets and watched their metamorphosis. at the end she released them as butterflies. the tune was highly recommended at here bbqs over the last summer. last year the forgotten birds (karaoke kalk) decided to stop touring as a band. their first and might be last remix at all was created spontaneously in a jam session. enough reason for to be very happy about their awesome gift.
