and so, a little short of our third birthday here at selador, it feels like we ve finally made it. no longer pretenders to the throne, we are now like a proper, authentic, fully fledged record label as we reach the holy grail of our very first vinyl release. a momentous occasion for sure. you can speak to our people from now on

heard on “melancholia” are interpretations of honzo’s subconscious visions of life. the intense compositions are made up of drones, noises and distorted beats moving in and out of the frame. on opener “orientalism” said elements blend with hi-hat brushes, brassy synth pads, sci-fi noises and distant human voices evoking islam’s “adhan” (call to prayer). the theme contemplates over alienation caused by western accounts of “orientalism”, soaked in “hüzün” (the turkish term for melancholia). on a2 a rework of “moral masochism” is provided by the mysterious shadows outfit, starting with a distorted guitar over a slow and gritty rhythmic backbone which gradually turns into a chaotic high-intensity acid jam on the ep’s most dance floor suitable cut. on the flipside, “lovesickness” presents a broken kick rhythm periodically flipped by toms and accompanied by a disorienting hi-hat rhythm, ghostly strings and sporadic human moans – all resulting in a tribal mood, recalling a ceremony, perhaps a quest for a saviour from the blue temper? b2 presents the “moral masochism” original. again a distorted guitar plays over a slow rhythm, but compared to the remix, the original’s intensity is introverted, contemplating over melancholia’s effect of deriving gratification from self-inflicted moral humiliation. ambient closer “emptiness” explores a cold state with such an encapsulating airiness that it feels like a close account of another person’s mood down to the impression of their breath. arpeggiated synth noises appear from a distance representing increasing pressure from the outside world without ever suppressing the state of mind. as a result, “emptiness” sums up the state of melancholia experienced as a mood rather than the effect of a cause.

the last couple of years have been huge for pomo, going from a relatively obscure canadian producer to releasing his debut ep on hw&w, remixing for the likes of janet jackson and mark ronson, and touring the globe with disclosure as their hand-picked opening act.
bastard jazz has commissioned pomo to be next in line for the fourth volume of their *tempo dreams* compilation albums, following on the heels of the hotly contested soul clap compiled vol. 3. as with other tempo dreams records, we tease it out with a limited 7 inch release with tracks from the compiler made specifically for the tempo dreams album.
*blue soda* (part 1) - pomos first original release since his ep in november of 2014 is a typical, rollicking pomo new disco joint with stabbing synths, chopped vocal samples and an irresistible bassline. part 2 on the flip-side delivers more of the same, with a little more of an introspective twist. part 2 is exclusive to the 7 inch only and wont be on the album.

ahead of him releasing a full length album on mos in 2016, key label artist marcoantonio spaventi is teasing us with a three track prelude ep. spaventi hails from italy, but is based in amsterdam, and is someone who deals in misty, chicago referencing house sounds that are loaded up with a real sense of analogue jack. as well as on mos he releases on slow motion, most excellent ny and pizzico records, and in summer 2015 he put out a leftfield electro, italo, soundtrack and disco full length, viaggi, that showed he has great range in the studio.

the 05 poly 800 loop ep was born in the name of the dutch-hungarian friendship when dj overdose collaborated with the budapest based record label dalmata daniel, and hungarian acts, s olbricht & 12z. a wide range of styles release from dark and mid-tempo to hard-hitting electro. just how we like it from mister model man. the ep also features two remixes both of which are complete reworks of the originals. s olbricht (farbwechsel, opal tapes, lobster theremin) transformed path to wrath into a dark abstract techno wave that manages to end up light and romantic. meanwhile 12z, the newest mascot of nicolas jaar s other people label have made an experimental symphony from be(h)anger and this pathos covers the whole essence of this ep.

edit & dub tokyo release special disco versions sourced from an acetate titled nyc1980. unsure on the story here but these versions of mfsb “mysteries of the world” & francine mcgee “delirium” never made it to vinyl! super limited on one sided vinyl. first come first serve!

in the follow up to huxleys widow ep aus present their second offering of 2016 and in doing so welcome back two label favourites: timothy blake and marquis hawkes as hawkes & blake both artists made outstanding debuts for aus last year, with hawkes having more than a hand in blakes stormy search ep before delivering his own disco inflected hit chances. now we see a continuation of the studio chemistry as both parties join forces and present love precipitation: a pair of no frills bombs built strictly for the dancefloor. playful piano lines and jubilant synths are propelled by expertly crafted 909 drums throughout, recalling in equal measure the classic garage sound of detroit and the soulful grooves that emanated from new jersey in the 90s. with hawkes & blake aus continue to maintain the high quality in 2016 and offer us an insight into an exciting new production pairing.

lin/log is celebrating its 5th anniversary! and for this special date we invited some very special friends, too. this record contains two pounding tracks that mainly were made using the endorphin.es furthrrrr generator and terminal modules. each track was recorded in one take to provide the full eurorack modular experience lin/log stands for. pressing on grey marbled 7 inch vinyl.

counter pulse presents number 15 in it s limited vinyl series with a release by berlin artist myk derill, who delivers three tracks made up from his trademark sound of raw, futuristic atmospheres and heavily dubbed-out techno grooves. the title track -mess- also receives a superbly deep work-out by roberto from fachwerk. this will be a strictly vinyl only release for a while, with the digital versions appearing later in the year, but for now, full respect to the vinyl guys, you get to spin this first !

2015 brought the trilogy of the dancer to ressort. now the labels core artists each remix their tracks in circles. while all of them aim for the dancefloor, ressorts core artists could not sound more diverse. ekserd and border one aim for the raw, the groovy and the pure while array access and glos lose themselves more and more in sound design and dreaminess. since the many aspects of art and music form a cycle of ying and yang, each artist shows the other an interpretation of what he might have missed before. be it a complete stomper or a light absorbing epos, a deep and groovy house and techno hybrid or a journey into the depths of space every artist made one of the well known tracks released on previous eps his own. it is a very colourful package that bares every moment the label tried to cover in it s series before.

the second release from spazio records is a transatlantic affair. made by the dynamic duo zopelar from sao paulo in brazil and sumorai from the southern part of sweden. the tracks are the fruits from jams made behind hotel walls in tokyo. deep, raw and sticky-icky.

rituale is a brand new label for 2016 setting off with a beautiful structured ep called (bury me where i fall) by the talented producer known as g76. this ep is made up with 2 original track s lasting up to a good 16 minuets each. a1 youth riot & b1 four for four. the heart and soul of this ep is represented by the rioting youth struggling for a better future in a society riddled with corruption and selfishness.

valioso013 comes this time from our beloved italian friend, mattia lapucci, his mixing skills are likewise his productions, just absolutely incredible. minimal in his perfection with classy drums, trippy percussions and synths are involving through the whole room when you hear the bonaffucci ep, but not only the originals are made of high quality sounds, regarding to the remixers section with vera, famous for her appearance at perlon, comes out with a very special remix as well as piticu, the outstanding talent from bukarest shows up with a drivy, romanian high class eat.

its not often you hear a techno record produced by a total of five people. when it happens, it’s usually to mark a passage and make a statement. sometimes it is a matter of celebrating a rita of passage, a shift into maturity and the embodiment of a new skin. this is what repitch is doing with the fourth and final installment in their “features” series, reuniting all the crew for the the final blast of what’s been a long and massive barrage of heavy techno. this is the collaboration to end them all: repitch founders ascion, d. carbone and shapenoise have shared the studio with longtime allies and. together, they explore a common ground made of pounding metallic percussions, gutwrenching bass and thick, furious grooves, with each producer bringing his own peculiar contributions to the table. this last installment marks the end of a process that accompanied repitch throughout its whole existence, thus enhancing the beginning of a new chapter in the label’s creative output.

ruhig comes back after one year with particles ep as first installment of a double ep on midgar. the record opens with particles, an atmospheric detroit influenced cut made out of synthlines dropping like voodoo spells, epic pads and fragmented beats. eddying follows up with a more direct approach to the dancefloor, 4/4 stomping beat and thin hi-hats backed by lasers and passionate ambiances. etere on the b-side gives the records an halfway breath, sounds like a late afternoon walk in the fields of a southern countryside village (with constructions going on somewhere nearby), before to start again with the sweet and eerie perle, where droney pinching drums are flooded by a swarm of dreamy fireflies. idiom to close the ep with a fast syncopated cut, showing the approach of ruhig to any form of musical expression and genre, far from traditional ambient or deep techno and going further, to reach out daring and more demanding levels.

having made his family life a priority for the last three years, picotto was nonetheless busy in the studio, adding to his beyond-extensive catalogue of releases and preparing us for a new salvo of pumping techno, jacking tech-house and quintessential club material. from heart to techno, picotto s ninth studio album features a number of collaborations with regular partners in crime riccardo ferri and devid, who both throw in extra measures of italian flair to the mix.

coeo are to toy tonics records, what master at work were to the house scene of the 1990ies: they bring the soul into the house. their new ep back in the days is a 4 track house stomper that could have been made in 1997 by guys like sneak, dimitri from paris or little louie. but still the similarities to the new berlin sample-house scene around max graef and hodini are evident, too. already their last years superhit native riddim (which is featured as a bonus track on this vinyl) included some heavy jazz samples they found in their parents bag of soul. native riddim has been no.1 in the traxsource charts for several weeks and was the basis for their already huge following. from laurent garnier to tensnake - the feedback has been awesome. now they proceed their way of souldful house. just good taste.
