as some of you may have already noticed, each release of mr raoul ks >peul< series features a specicific african instrument as its main sound. this time its the balafon - a kind of sticcado, which uses calabashes as resonancebodies and is often handcrafted by its player. here, the balafon is used as a rhythmic and a melodic instrument. after a long intro, the track gathers momentum and takes off for one of those long buildups. when the tension is released, in come the vocals! rising from a sparse chant to an energetic vocal that empathically pleads for unity. then you get your beats back and off goes another african-european joyride. for those of you who arent that much into vocals, a less vocalized mix is provided on the flipside. enjoy another mr raoul k special treat

arnaud e mathieu is a well known figure of the parisian french house scene, hes a great dj and can play anything between deep house & techno. arno also runs his well respected label clima. i really enjoyed playing his recent release lamb of sun, on real tone. his past releases received support from great djs such as joe clausell or danny krivit. arno recently played me some of his productions demos and i really liked soil, he then did a great job in finishing it up and making it a dope club track! when playing this track to argy he really liked it and added his magic touch on final eqing! i hope you will enjoy this release as much as we do here on drh! dj deep

daniel sternberg, eightyaxt years old, born naive and innocent in berlin, has been a dj and producer since the early 90s. since then, using the artist names daniel steinberg and harry axt, he has produced numerous tracks, remixes, and a mix-cd on labels such as kiddaz.fm, front room recordings, micro.fon,, and leftroom. his debut album, planet axt, comes out on 02.03.2009 on the label of his booking agency rompecabeza. the vinyl version presents eight as of yet unreleased tracks.

leo anibaldi was born in 1972 and at the age of 15 discovers his passion for electronic music. thanks to the advent of the first computers like commodore vic 20 and 64, he begins to create his first loops. after one year leo start to play in outskints clubs under the pseudonym dj mc, when was impossibile to find in rome any trace of electronic beat. he becomes a big analogics synths collector and he decide to spend his daily life into the creation of beat groove. in 1990 leo begins his recordings career at acv records where he will make more then 20 albums like: attack random, riders of the future, noise generation, muta, cannibald and aeon. in 1991 leo meets lory d and in a small garage located in the north of rome, they start the alternative music movement universally known as the sound of rome, who spread the techno music in rome and whole italy. in those years leo is concentrated to bring his analogic live set around the world, he plays in the best techno parties like one the first love parade edition in berlin. in 1995 leo decides to cut the relation whit acv records and moves to rephlex, label of his friend aphex twin where he will make the album void. 2008. cannibald record was born, leos personal record label, and he is back with a 4 track ep. feed1 is a hypnotic techno sound, feed2 a deep, spaced out techno track and feed 3 modern minimal acid. leos older hit >attack random< got remixed by francesco pierguidi.

after several months of hard video- and filmwork, and several awards, french-vietnamese cutie tk.kim aka. pop-3 will finally release some new tracks, on vinyl and online, and by the way, she promised to release more stuff in 2009! so, the new release, chicks and cuts, with 8 tracks online and a 4-track vinyl 12, is definitely dancy, clubby and loud. definitely in the tradition of pop-3s former releases, that never perfectly fitted a precise music category and prove that tk.kim still refuses to be house, tec or minimal. shes all of them or none of them. and what does chicks and cuts sound like, then? boomy squeaking analog sequences combined with delicious samples of her sweet voice will delight the dancefloor, lo-fi audio splinters coming out of old analog drummachines play something like very reduced melodies, and well shaped bassdrums and deep synths will delight your tummies. the very minimal lyrics are in french, as usual. and, goodie: sonja moonear and akiko kiyama contribute with amazing remixes to this fine girls-only oeuvre, rhythmical and minimal but still very harmonious the one by akiko, deep and mysterious the one by sonja. and by the way, the cover is really sweet, people say.

claque musique present their fifth release, which is a technoid gem from hugo (already responsible for the brilliant third 12 inch on the label, entitled born to bop) called strobo revenge. another zany electronic bullet that is destined to cause mayhem on dancefloors worldwide! on the a side, jumping beats, vocal mirages and compressed synths create the groove on the original mix of the title track. a fizzing bassline and echoing whistles enter later on and they give the track a slice of claque musique zaniness. a2, prismatic visual, is a powerful floor filler, which is slightly less crazy then its musical partner. hugo uses dependable percussion, watery synth action and inviting vocals to create this musical treat. on the flip side, carola pisaturo brings us a moody version of strobo revenge that squeezes something else out of those whistles. she employs heads down percussion, vocal shards and smooth synths on her version. portable/bodycode heightens the intensity with a jackin rerub that sends the track in another direction completely. marching beats, acidic synths and hollow bass drops work wonders on abrahams revision

stone cold classic funky disco floor filler thats stood the test of time. first time ever on 12inch!!! taken from the hard to find self titled lp by tommy stewart, bump & hustle music is the definitive disco funk party anthem. it was recorded in 1976 in atlanta, georgia, and since then the lp has found itself in the play boxes of soul, funk and jazz djs alike. however, its not until now that this amazing song has finally made it onto the preferred format of dance djs the world over – the 45rpm 12inch single. in 1976 tommy stewart was a busy man, working as an arranger, producer, performer and writer for a host of soul and rnb artists. the lp made for abraxas records was the first to go directly under his name, and although it failed to take off locally, the lp soon became known by djs across the world primarily for the club smash bump & hustle music. as it happens that song in particular almost didnt exist but for tommy needing to come up with something quick in order to fill in a gap in the album. conceived and recorded on the spur of the moment, and with backing vocals by isaac hayes singers hot buttered soul overdubbed later, its a superb example of rhythmic simplicity blended with soulful, catchy harmonies. its just impossible to listen to bump & hustle music without a broad smile coming to your face, and when played loud in a club, its impossible not to dance!

rezkars fascination with music began with his parents record collection. listening to local radio stations as a child, he heard 80s tracks. as an adult he discovered the magic of 60s and 70s jazz and funk. one day, his cousin played a track that he immediately fell in love with. he later learned that this was house music. he discovered the fruity loops sequencer software and thought, why not try to make my own tracks, after all, it cant really be that hard? deep house can sound deceptively simple. its a bit like japanese anime, rezkar says. it looks so cute and easy to draw, but try to actually draw it, and you will discover its even harder than realistic drawings. the thing about house is that if you try too hard it can come across as being very cheesy, but then again, if you dont do enough it can sound incomplete. finding the balance is not easy, rezkar admits. after hearing his music, one finds that he is learning this lesson quite well.

the debut record of ritmolider kaleidoscope is a traditional studio work with live performance and classic analog sound. being in the era of nu disco and re edits the author has tried to find his own way of making music based on traditional methods of performance. and hes got a beautiful symbiosis of instrumental improvisations and electronic melodiousness. at the begining of the record theres a superb remix by the beat broker - deep, groovy synth disco, highly recomended for dancefloor! the second track is a journey into obscure psychedelic funk with lots of improvisations and atmospheric tunes....a pity so sweet percussions are added so late. b2 tonight at the discotheque will carry you away by the real soviet disco vibe. a beautiful arp solo softly flowing through amazing effects and acoustic drums focused on free played funky basslines. the original version of kaleidoscope is also a very interesting one. a mood of this composition is changed all the time. the first seconds of the track you hear a tender melodic solo which makes you feel calm and relaxed, then you get the groove coming from an agressive arpeggio and dinamic percussion. soon this feeling gets interrupted with a sudden slap bass impromtu playing together with a synthy accompaniment, and it turns into another feeling, and so on... this really reminds of kaleidoscope effect!

featured on mr tejadas fabric mix cd ! >fractals< explores the inner musical geometry of john tejada’s electronic productions in 3 varieties. the opening track >fractals< builds driving, rhythmic layers, evolving modular blips and atmospheres which then reduce to reveal the elements that lie beneath. >the open< is a featured track on tejadas fabric 44 mix. just like a warm cup of morning coffee in your hand, it gives the feeling of a fresh new day and the possibilities that lie ahead. an ethereal piece that may remind some of tejadas classic melodic moments. continuing the nostalgic theme is the aptly titled >better days< a piano chord driven track which brings to mind classics from long ago, but with a tejada twist.

lets remixer speak! >it was great to be asked to do this. originally, i wanted to do something really quirky and funky with the strange vocal in human bond, one of my favorite old tracks. i tried a few times but i couldnt really get a vibe going in the funk realm. so i listened to the original over and over again and then the lightbulb turned on. i realized that the original was a monster rave track, like what you would hear in a warehouse in detroit in the 90s. so i threw out my original idea and went crazy with a huge techno builder, something to hype a big rave just like the original. maybe this doesnt sound exactly like what i usually do but that was the fun of making it< claude vonstroke. aa: >bounce your body to the box was one of the first kms records that i owned and it was all about the mike >hitman< wilson mix and force field on the b side. the production on the original was huge. the 909 groove just pounded everything... when that came out there was nothing that came close to it. so it was an honor and a challenge to mix it myself. first came the futurist bounce mix... not released on vinyl, anmerkung, ... which is more of a cover version than a remix. i had a lot of fun with this one but it definitely has a signature that steps away from the original. so i had to take a run at it one more time to pay a proper homage to the original with the flashback mix< mike shannon...

black diamonds by codec & flexor was originally released in 2002 on forte, the label of the strongly deplored christian morgenstern. it was huge back then, and ever since its been a stand-out track in the sets of michel de hey. thats why now he decided to re-release the original with a version from the hottest remixer on the planet, gregor tresher. of course theres also michels very own re-rub

ceephaxs drive time k7 was released as a bonus cassette with his first album, and is a cult classic. half an hour of music per side, ranging from banging vocal acid to the deepest and darkest side of ambient, with everything in between. the 27 tracks are a perfect description of andy jenkinson s original music universe, his roots. it took about quite a while to transfer it onto acetate, it was one of the most challenging vinyl cut that anyone can imagine. the making of this record is kind of similar to homer s iliad. the stamper was then stored for several years, safe from the dangers of heat and daylight. just like for the nicest bottles of wine. firtcask records just took this jewel out of the cellar...

originally recorded by james brown in 1964 for smash records but due to legal issues with king records not released until 1968.

vrajitoroo. now the frightening thing about our boy razvan aka. vrajitoroo, is that his is only 17 years of age. born and raised in romania, his passion for electronic music first came to light at the age of 11. since then he has followed closely the careers of not only fellow romanians rhadoo and raresh, but a host of other stars of the techno circuit, including the heavy-weights, hawtin, vath, loco dice, carola, luciano and villalobos. the more he listened the more his passion grew, and soon his urge the make music could no longer be ignored, he set on his production journey. the first fruits of his labour are now here for you to check out. sent to lawler, it took him a very short time to decide that he wanted the tracks for viva music, and so, vrajitoroo becomes the latest new artist to join the label.... the three tracks din nou iar, tzushca and mai hai!, represent a new modern take on a classic tribal sound.

2001, the year that sunshine from dance nation ruled the dance floors around theworld and ever since then has stayed in the record boxes of most djs under the category classics. as it is widely known in the dance community shaun is not really a big fan of cover versions, so just like with laid back (bakerman) shaun hooked up with the original producers and writers and secured the original vocal samples, making this version a real official update instead of just another cover version. incorporating the typical and unique baker sound makes sunshine again internationally interesting.

two classic chicago house tracks taken from the clone classic cuts album. after more then twenty years since they were born, these two formerly very hard to get masterpieces will still cause major damage on the dancefloor...

its been a while since the last release by mark august on connaisseur, but now hes back with an extraordinary one. two tracks, both like a fairytale of a country far, far away. a fable, with mystic and mysterious animals and creatures, might best describe what mark had in mind while working on the tracks. the wasps from tunisia and the silver piggy – the main track on this release is an uncommon piece of music. it starts moody and with a stoic pumping beat, yet also a somehow laidback feeling. it then unexpectedly and surprisingly builds up to a monster of a track, working manically towards its climax. then however, over the length of the track, it completely transforms again, coming back to its beginning, as though nothing had ever happened. scorpions groove is a deep and dubby affaire.

if you secretly believe that all of the best dance music has an undercurrent of melancholy then you are in for a treat. 0.5, the debut ep from the fascination movement, doesn?t skimp on either the dancefloor rhythms or the windswept yes-we-remember-new pop romanticism. the fascination movement is looking forwards, not backwards: just because this is music that adapts the same vocabulary created by bands like new order or early orchestral manoeuvres in the dark doesn?t change the fact that from the first arpeggios of ?just pretend? you feel the shock of the new. of course, you may be too busy humming along to the choruses to notice how slyly the band makes a classic sound fresh again...

a huge tech house output!! the a side proposes >welcome to the moon<, a pure underground anthem with his instantly recognisable and wicked drum programming style. then the track drops a huge and energetic bass line with a screaming 90s rave-influenced synth loop. the dark voice rises among random effects giving that spacey atmosphere when the break push it up to the standout climax. are you house heads ready for this? the b side drives us to another planet >mars<.this progressive-tech track stands into dark-prog line. packed with loud bass this is another big room tune that everybody should play. the bass line rolls on a simple drum pattern giving to the synth the main objective to make you shout. then the whole track is served up by a constant acid line creating a sinister feeling to this club monster

played by loco dice, tom clark... a booty call. the title says it all, a call for all booties - big or small - to migrate to the dance floor. an orgy of percussion and low end rumble lift you from your head bobbing slump up against the wall and firmly plants you right in the sweet spot of the dance floor, where the rising energy hits a climax. there is a pause and then the most noticeable sound of the track hits: the booty call. one artist credited with invigorating the kindisch label, is the young frankfurt based producer daniel mehlhart, whose first (and hopefully not last) release, origami was a highlight of last summer. in his booty call remix, one can immediately hear his style thrust into the main groove of the track, injecting it with a heavier feel and bringing forth a whole slew of new effects and sounds including a hypnotizing african vocal. this marks a small milestone as the 20th release of the label.
