produced in 2004, this ep marks an essential shift in the production of stefan goldmann to his modus operandi as a dedicated innovator. he had adapted the barricade guise to induce some serious deviations into the techno realm. yet, heads werent ready and he simply continued under his real name with his major breakthrough works: perlons blood ep and the legendary sleepy hollow tune. hidden from the public, aleko and frantic had built a prototypic aesthetic of rough, concrete-space sounds - reduced dark, metallic percussion grooves, spring reverbs and degraded post-acidic synths. you name it where you heard this sound years later. its revealing how far ahead these tunes were at the time of their creation. they sound more now than many current tracks. aleko is the 4/4 techno version of this soundset, locked-in clonk patterns built around a nitrous bassline. frantic could be a future development to todays dubstep, if it wasnt its actual historic predecessor. add the schizophrenic bass excursion heliotrope and you have a package of painstaking relevance. back then the a&rs simply didnt get it - thats why it took 6 years and the formation of victoriaville to finally bring these gems to light

olm029 - layo & bushwacka! - double a side summer gone/what do you say now layo and bushwacka! spent most of last year recording, the first offering from this period came at the end of last year with their endangered ep on plus 8. we now present their first release on their own label in eleven months. summer gone is a groove that starts on an up that slowly breaks down and brings in sounds, voices, rhythm and then kicks back with a really strong vocal and groove. what do you say now hits from the moment it begins with a stripped down sound and dub vocal and then slams with strong percussion and then back to the groove. totally tested out by layo & bushwacka! but supported big by the only two other djs with copies, richie hawtin and laurent garnier.

encapsulating carolas approach to techno in both sound and title, groove catcher is the naples producer at his best, with a rolling bassline punctuated by a percussion pattern that teases out the funk of the track in carolas trademark style: pacey and direct, but with enough bounce and fluidity to fully snare the occupants of the dancefloor within its grip and make them do its bidding. fellow album cut, the method, which appears on the vinyl format only, is similarly insistent whilst lighter in tone - if groove catcher is best employed at the peak of a club set, then the method is its daytime terrace equivalent. leading the ep will be the rework of groove catcher by martin buttrich, with the german producer lending the considerable talents that have led to releases on poker flat and cocoon recordings - as well as his recruitment behind the mixing desk for timo maas and loco dice - to a pair of remixes that transform the original into a different beast entirely. remix a mutates groove catcher into something monstrous and intimidating, bringing a different intensity to the track and injecting it with a heightened sense of danger.

being one part of the dj team kassette boys, ferri borbás aka superlover is widely known as m_ferri. he was raised in berlin and after the wall came down he got musically influenced enormously by the then arising techno culture of the mid 1990ies. his early productions have always mirrored the influences of the rough, industrial and dark sounding techno sound which was brought to berlin by artist like jeff mills, laurent garnier or joey beltram. simple, radical sounding and functional: tracks like his >tanzgenerator< or >open the watergate< had shaped these asthetics into a trademark sound. his latest superlover project is slightly shifting his musical coordinates : instead of a reduced and purely funtional >m_ferri sound< his new project presents a rather emotional and energetic mix of warm sounding rhodes pianos and string synthesizers. the three tracks of the e.p. combine those sounds earworm-like to catchy melody riffs and being the metamorphosis of a new disco influenced, poppy superlover sound

bjorn torske is a special artist with a special name. he was born in northern norway where fishing has been the main industry for hundreds of years and his name literally translates as >bear cod<. even making dinner is unique in norway: you put the potatoes on to boil, go out to sea and catch a fish, then return to prepare the meal…this process is known as >kokning<. to say that northern norwegians do things their own way would be putting it lightly … to say that bjorn torske is making music his own way would be exactly right.

another debut for the new bass culture release. for bcr013, we welcome swedens joel alter. as a trained violinist and composer for the swedish national theatre, joels first steps into the world of electronic composition came with an exotic mixture of classical influence and modern inspiration, from acts such as depeche mode, jean-michel jarre and front 242. a key figure on the swedish music scene since 1995, joel has always seen his music as stemming from the meeting of a variety of artforms. his first steps onto the international circuit came with the signing of material to int. deejay gigolo and minus. since then, he has developed a strong relationship with hamburg label, room with a view, featuring on seven releases since early 2009, as well as releasing on berlin based label sweatshop...

earlier this year they got together at martins studio in derby to create this classic deep house number. the parts were then taken to their respective studios to create their own versions. freds mix has a more straight forward vibe to it while martin takes things to the deep end, adding dub elements to the mix.

if god created men and if the ancestors of men are monkeys, then god was a monkey! this is asrs 3th release on simplex records. the original mix is one for the stronger bodies and minds, full of energy & power, balancing between dark crazy techno and solid minimal. the syncopated percussion is pivoting on the berghain based groovy sound. the melody is sparse and therefore a natural step in asrs evolution as a recording artist. the structure of this track embraces well placed developments and sonic changes. the sound of all tracks is coherent and vigorous hypnotic. asr hired minus artist jpls for a remix on the a-side. result is a typical jpls sound. abstract & subtracted. asrs friends, rising smallroom artist mike wall gives a dark dreamy mysterious point of view and japans tech & minimal talent shin matsura hits you straight in the face just like the original mix does. these two producers are the personnel on the b-side.

>les patates<, the fresh new rrygular release by tassilo, one half of pan-pot, is not an homage to french agriculture but a serious techno smasher with high club potential. at first, theres just a nice party atmosphere and … then this rough beat drops in! the small potatoe >petite patate< surprises by adding rudimental elements like the hihat and snare drum always a little late. but you have the feeling you havent missed something yet. this number just sneaks from behind and lulls you in with billowing pads until you sense the final rave sound as a self-evident consequence of it all. the message by g-tech right before the drop proves right - there is not a lack of vibration here! its all about the mixture … and in this case its just felicitous: male choir, clanking cymbals and finally the riff that this track subsists on. tassilo knows how to send the short melody-figure through the different stages of sound design, even though it might have been lively enough without it. this gives the big potatoe >grosse patate< a level of dynamic, that most contemporary techno releases just dont provide.

when we released aardvarcks nosestep as part of his well well well ep in the summer of 2007 it cause quite a stir in the then formative dubstep scene, almost anybody played that track. now we re-release it with a new version by cosmin trg, who transformed it into a strong acidic stepper, 2010 style. on the b-side we find an unreleased nubian mindz remix from aardvarcks spoken release from 2001. we didnt release it at the time, but with the whole new future house movement coming strong, the timing couldnt be more perfect

for this tune hem and terrible shock take apart an 80s soul lp, add some sci-fi synths, lazy drums and a sprinkling of analogue fx. after many painstaking hours of recording the duo take a well earned coffee break, then return to the studio just in time to see the back of the light-footed blunted robots man shortstuff as he runs off chuckling >your vocals are mine now!<. revenge plans are made, vehicles are fuelled up in preparation ? but these activities are cut short by the arrival of an email from the culprit ? it seems that he took the files back to his hq for what he describes as a refix ? with the engines still running, hem and shox check out the file and find it to be a work of genius ? what they hear is an accelerated kaleidoscopic fusion of on-beat claps and snares in a peak-time northern soul style, super heavy subbass hits and hectic syncopated keyboard chops.

innerwestsoul is an anonymous, sydney-based crate digger who claims influences as wide as art blakey, tony blackburn, joni mitchell and streetsounds electro, and credits first and foremost where it all began with his dads original 1970s home made motown, soul and disco mixtapes. turntable tweaking and re-editing tracks since 1985, his original productions utilised nothing but a razor blade and a roll of sticky tape to keep the music flowing. fast forward to the 21st century, and he continues to apply the same diy philosophy to his digital productions, creating tracks with real drama, continually diving deep into the infinity of musical history to find those rare nuggets of pure musical gold, then sharing them with the world

dimitri kneppers (1967) music career reads like an encyclopedia. a house encyclopedia. after 23 years of spinning records you could call this dj a true veteran. known for his enormous sensitivity, true feeling and mixing skills he gives you the sense you are the voyeur of an intimate act between two lovers. the music and the man. but nobody ever felt and looked so comfortable behind the decks as dj dimitri, for he brings the crowd at ease like don juan would do with women. when ecstasy is no longer just a word, but a true magical moment as the crowd, the surroundings and the music all come together in one hypnotizing state of happiness. this man knows -or should we say feels- what he is doing, not only behind the decks but also when producing. in september 2007 dimitri said goodbye to his headphones to work on a farm with mentally handicapped people. fortunately for his fans the break wasnt premanent in the middle of last year he installed a studio in his home, then this past june he returned to the decks - now he makes his planet e debut with a stunning track already tearing up dancefloors. included is the first of two remixes by carl craig. a second ep with remixes by orlando voorn and carl craig will appear in early 2011

vinyl edition (7x12inch) is limited to 1500 copies ww!!! ostgut ton releases this unique compilation of music crafted from field recordings made inside the two berlin clubs berghain and panorama bar. the concept and original recordings were made by the berlin based producer emika. over a period of two months emika created the recordings in the clubs while they were closed to the public and edited them into a library of sounds. the library was then given to all the ostgut ton artists, but also to club associates like dj pete aka substance, dinky, cassy, margaret dygas, ryan elliott and scuba using his scb alias, to make music with. this release marks the celebration of the labels five year anniversary!!
