phantasm is a new vinyl label and collaboration between amsterdam s sinchi collective and the much-admired night noise outlet, based in geneva. it kicks off with a strong ep from the soviet union aka richard baldwin, including classy remixes from sinchi themselves and in flagranti. baldwin has a signature style that is cinematic and synth heavy and has been formed over the last decade plus. a fine dj, experienced promoter and self-confessed addict of vintage analogue synthesizers and drum machines, richard pulls his influences from early electronica, 80s film-scores, and shades of techno right up to the present day. this track was first written on a cold evening in december 2010 using a roland tr707 and jx8p synth. after collaborating with his songwriting partner the track was given a haunting vocal and released as the disappearance of becky sharp , while the original remained on baldwin s soundcloud and got id requests from all over the world. 7 years later it comes back to life in the form of its original instrumental, with a 2017 rework, plus remixes by sinchi and in flagranti.

shep pettibone - a name that commands the greatest of respect from djs, diggers, dancers and music lovers across the galaxy. a name that has been emblazoned across so many club classics that the accompanying discography is simply dizzying. the underground disco of groups like aurra, first choice and candido and early 80s experimental dubbed out club cuts of cult outfits like nv, alisha and carol williams and even the heady pop chart successes of bands like level 42, the pet shop boys, jermaine jackson and many more, have all benefitted from pettibones prowess behind the mixing boards. a true musical legend and the man who literally crafted the sounds and styles of almost 2 decades of club music back to back, shep pettibones pedigree can never be called in to question.

hailing from newcastle upon tyne, uk, steve bird aka mr. bird is the latest artist to land at matasuna records nest, hatching an exotic and fiery ep. starting on a mid flight ambience, before charging to catch its funky prey, dance away, the opening track, is a scorching collaboration with chief commander yaaba, one of the lead singers of london based combo yaaba funk. undeniably catchy bass line, afro horns blended with a string of unexpected beat variations, dance away is a call to the dancefloor, a celebratory ground to let loose, where mothers and sisters alike are beckoned to shine to the positive tune.

uk techno veteran kirk degiorgio takes on the future/past guise once more for an exquisite 4 tracker on the belgian de:tuned label. kirk struck gold during a recent dig through some of his old dat tapes and unearthed 2 previously unreleased gems: a finished version of his widely acclaimed 90s classic “hyperspace” described by kirk as the real hyperspace and “cosmos”, a rough uptempo percussive workout, proper crunch future/past sound.
the dat tapes also revealed a couple of tracks that were only ever released on cd: “try 2004 funk mix 2” (from the historic 1993 “applied rhythmic technology” compilation) and “locator” (from the sublime “objets d’art 92-95” compilation). the cds have become rare and wanted items, and so kirk and de:tuned decided to finally press these tracks on wax.
all tracks were mastered straight off the original dat tapes by matt colton to guarantee that extra crisp sound quality. this release will be available on 180 gr vinyl.

jaxx madicine is a jazz-funk inspired house-ish outfit from milan consisting of turbojazz (local talk, gamm records), parker madicine (heist, bastard jazz brooklyn, ct-hi records) and the talented jazz keyboardist veez_0. with an organic and melodic sound collage you can hear influences from classic 70 s jazz funk labels and artists like cti, mizell brothers, kudu and bob james but also the current sounds of kaidi tatham, byron the aquarius and harvey sutherland. after their debut ep montreux they are now ready to drop their full album distant classic where the jaxx crew exit planet earth and treat us to a space music odyssey that is full of surprises. during the journey they deliver house, jazz, fusion, boogie and jazzy beats from a highly melodic keyboard perspective. all tracks are made with a genuine love for analogue synthesizers, fender rhodes, clavinets and some soulful mpc programming. distant classic is an album that can be enjoyed both in the club and at home, but we hope you will enjoy their melodic sounds on any platform. just press go and enjoy the trip.

as one of the first dutch musicians to establish a vital connection between detroit and amsterdam, orlando voorn has long been recognized as one of the netherland’s most original and inventive producers in the world of electronic dance music. voorn began djing at the tender age of 12 and went on to win the dutch dmc dj championships in 1986 with his own characteristic blend of hiphop and electro. towards the end of the eighties he acquired his first sequencer, packed away his turntables and turned his hand to producing.

mattia trani, who runs the pushmaster discs imprint and released his debut album the hi-tech mission last year, is putting out a remix compilation of his full-length on december 15.ben sims, dj rush, echoplex, and more remix mattia trani.

kevin saundersons kms imprint is a label that should require no introduction. the motor city label has been a techno mainstay since its inception in 1987. numerous detroit luminaries have released classic after classic on the labels hallowed grooves over the last 25+ years and its influence is still felt in contemporary dance music today. the idea behind the kms origins series is to shine a light on the lesser known cuts in the kms vaults as well as the classics that have given the label it s legendary status during its lifetime.
