nyc (via paris) based dj and producer sid vaga returns to nickodemus wonderwheel recordings with another 12 inch full of exotic deep house vibes sure to light up dance floors everywhere. it is an impressive follow-up to his genuinely well-received *brazuca* single from last year. on the a side, sid delivers *na na ye*, a driving cut with a pulsing bass line and hypnotic african chant that pushes the tune forward before getting flipped into a percussive section alongside deep and subtle synths. on the flip *manouche* can be found, a late night house tune with psychedelic balkan guitars and swirling gypsy vocal samples punctuating the track. rounding out the single, valencian producer oscar barila (plastic city) gives *manouche* a truly funky remix with a squelchy 80s new wave style bass line, thumping house beat, and irresistible synth work coming together for a real after-hours nightclub workout.

already a regular fixture on figure, swedish talent mikael jonasson returns for his third outing on the label with two cutting-edge techno experiments. incredibly crisp and clear, already primed for the worlds finest bigsystems, cravings encapsulates everything that a modern paranoid techno jam should be. surging textures, static-madness and a whole lot of detail wrapped up in a rolling, funky workout. jonasson is well known for his attention to detail and freaky, alien sound effects, and cravings only solidifies his talents there. the fizzing, low slung thump of swings still twists and shimmers in the high frequencies, full of details, but the deeper earthy kick and bass barrage take this one into more serious, heads-down zones. a real slammer for moments when you know youve captured your followers completely

the protagonists of 8. mimique vinyl kanzler & wischnewski from berlin are well known for their releases on ostfunk, karateklub, ton liebt klang and their shows in clubs like the tresor and magdalena club (formerly maria) where they have won the hearts of many listeners.

the >just for fun< ep starts with the title track just4fun, which in fact breathes fun and doesnt take itself too seriously. the funky and highly infectious keys and the butt shaking groove will remind you of a track that moodymann never made, but wishes he had. next comes unlimited01 with a joyful piano melody that would fit right into a french disco with a funkier version of alain delon behind the decks. still, the rhodes chords, the slow sexy groove, the vocal hooks will get you moving in no time. thang then goes into a more detroit beatdown direction with its deep chords and smooth pads. it creates a mellow atmosphere with an almost relaxed summer feeling. this is what a funky pimp would listen to on a night car drive. the ep ends with spiritual almost tribal rhythms. inspiration would be a nice soundtrack to a 70s orgy orchestrated by a groovy guru, surrounded by a magical circle of mystical dancers. over the top? sure, but the track would certainly get this party going.

fantastic reissue of two highly sought-after disco gems from canadian indie label attic. first up is sparkles awesome and very rare piece of jazzy disco-funk >disco madness< from 1979. a soaring high-voltage killer of a tune, it sports a pacy bassline supported by high-quality breaks and über-funky guitar riffs. flip over for the great que tal america!< from two man sound who despite hailing from belgium managed to create this monster latino classic. seamlessly fusing samba, jazz, bossanova and disco, this record was a huge underground anthem in new york back in the 70s. with its immensely funky salsa grooves and fabulous rhythm combo, you can understand why this track has been sampled to death. unmissable disco at its finest - sheer class!

r&s welcome new signing mpia3 to the label with a doublepack of uncompromising techno. mpia3 is a production alias of truss (perc trax) who has just the two eps preceding this on shifteds avian label. >your orders< see him continue down the path of raw, industrial, seriously funky, acid techno. his signature overdriven kicks recall classic robert armani and his sound harks back to the days of mike dearbourn and djax up beats, and the classic uk techno of ben sims and james ruskin but the tracks on >your orders< could have only been made in 2012. this is heavyweight music built for proper soundsystems and dark rooms. the six tracks on the ep straddle different tempos with some slick drum programming, but are tied together with some razor sharp synths and a healthy dose of acid.

after the zohar comes black dynamite aka ivano tetelepta – another well kept secret in the house music scene. on his city to city ep the man delights us with three raw and extremely funky tracks which display a deep love for oldschool hip-hop beats. in fact, these three tracks oscillate heavily between stripped down, soulinfluenced house and instrumental hip-hop. and everyone who knows tenderpark will immediately understand that this is just the perfect synthesis of some of our main interests.

soiree are back with another slice synergy that only these devoted individuals could make. the soiree sound is a gumbo of flavours bonded together with a lets have fun production ethos. max essa and stevie kotey created the soiree project to write quirky yet funky songs which show their love of experimentation.

welcome aboard amen brother - a new dublin based label providing an outlet for the expertly curated sound of the underground psychedelic soul, funk & disco they champion at their night of the same name. amen brother launches with a debut release from their own amen brother disco band. abdb lines up a selection of lovingly amended tracks for different moments of the night while remaining true to amen brothers signature psychedelic sound. the a side opens with the peak time rumbling and percussive sounds of >afreeka<, an afro-esque track with hypnotic male vocal chants and rising melodies. side b kicks off with the raw phased guitar sounds of >gonna get some< and quickly moves into its sleezy funk groove and sassy female vocals. >rollin & sinkin<, closes the b side with a catchy folk track whose funky guitar based groove and male vocal finish off the debut release perfectly.

slowly building, soul-soothing, and disco-fuelled house with a nod to both the great masters from chicago and the new electronic breed. lisbon producer and lux resident ramboiage likes to take it slow to take things further. >del fuego< kicks off modestly with a simple beat and some light percussion, creating and eerie mood. but then some tasty, disco-fuelled heavy house kicks in, and the tune starts to roll unstoppable, riding on a horn hook. funky like a train, as the mighty equals would say. spanish om records darling al velilla steps up the pace a little bit and lets the original float over some tasty discohouse beats and eighties-flavoured synths.

bastard jazz is proud to present the debut ep from brussels based production duo eric p & luigi aka monkeyrobot. coming to light through their work as 74 miles away (melting pot music) and tall black guy, who selected their standout >basement infusion< track to be on his tempo dreams compilation album (released in june on bastard jazz), and alliance between the label and m.r. seemed natural.
here on their self titled 12 inch, monkeyrobot deliver four diverse tracks that showcase their skills behind the boards, the keys, with a keen ear for the dancefloor. kicking things off, >brick stomach< is a synth-heavy four-to-the-floor 120 bpm joint that comes off like a floating points visit back in time to 1980s detroit with its rolling snares, arpeggiating synth bassline and cloudy pads. next up, >northern light< filters shimmering space disco vibes through big, thumping instrumental hip-hop drums and moody analog bass. on the flip, >rose gris< takes things in a funkier direction at 100bpm with its syncopated drums, irresistible lead, squelching bassline and all manner of synthesizer explorations. rounding off the ep is >last days<, which still manages to inject a funky 80s analog sound into its melancholy downtempo vibes.

breakbeat paradise recordings is proud to introduce yet another talented artist to the bbp crew. dj rudd is an established dj and producer from latvia, where he is leading the funky breaks/mashup scene, doing shows with names like a-skillz, featurecast, nightmare on wax to name a few. rudds oldskool type of funky breaks was a perfect match for bpp, who was quick to get rudd on board, when they first heard rudds successful funky breakout ep on bigm records. this became the beginning of a prosperous teamwork set out to design this amazing ep of 4 state-of-the-art funky bangers. track by track and sample by sample they worked their way through, in order for this ep to be as great as possible. the result is nothing less than a masterpiece of classic funky breaks - with all the right elements including well-balanced use of modern day wobble basslines.

constantly mutating and branching out, braiden is at the pinnacle of bass music coming out of london. as one of its most able djs, he employs an amalgam of sophisticated techniques and a selective imagination which takes in everything from sumptuous house to the most developed bass music, stopping by future garage, uk funky, juke and unpredictable techno on the way.

pianobatacazoo provides us his most powerful set up ever: vibrations and deephouse oriented strokes charged with baroque sensuality, decorating and presenting himself extra sensitive through solid percussion lines that come from uk-funky, counteracting with elegant shines of real instruments. mngc, a more minimal cut built from an explicit mutant bass line that works as the spine that receives new tools through the playing of the tune: dry falterings, bipolar personality that makes his own the mysticism of the original dubstep or the synth motifs connected with the intensity of the deep techno.

disko404 is a long-established promotions crew based in graz, austria, whose renowned monthly events are all about celebrating the bass in dubstep, funky, house, juke, grime, hip hop, electro, and experimental sounds. earlier this year they branched out as a record label, launching with a well-received split ep from sun people & franjazzco. their second release features two new tunes by sun peoples simon/off as well as a splendid remix by bass clef.
early support comes from scratcha dva (hyperdub), brackles (rinse fm), phon.o (50weapons), and bunzer0 (sub fm), and with a strictly limited run of 250 pressed, this is a 12 inch that will be in demand long after supply holds out.

developer has gained quite the reputation for delivering great functional raw techno made for the the club and the warehouse and this one is no exception! easily another huge release on his personal project developer archive. four strong recordings that that cater to those that want that funky dirty element to their sets developer definitely keeps things moving, this is why developers tracks have gained so much acclaim. dont sleep on this one!

for the first solo ep on horror boogie, fedka the irritant steps up, after his outstanding track on horror boogie 01. fedka the irritant is probably best known as the trombonist in the excellent band pest (ninja tune), alongside ben pest (panic bridge, victim, bonus round). he is also a seriously original and versatile producer in his own right. he has released on panic bridge, alongside the other pest members and his trombone techno live sets are something to behold. here, he drops four varied tracks, starting with the behemoth >words for friends<. a heavy slice of wonky techno, with a big kick and rasping synth. next up is one uncertain eyebrow. a building, funky, fuzzy acid-laced track that drops harder and harder as it goes on. on side b, calypso-flavoured, jazzed up >stick it< progresses on to a become a warbling bass effort with a smooth hip-hop vocal. last but not least, is >you only die once<, another funk-laden monster, with a killer slap bass line.

now this is what you can call great fun. amidst all the numerous releases somewhere between funky house and uplifting disco arrives finally a record again that will reach consensus transcending genres.

continuing in a strong and revitalised form that has seen widespread recognition for releases from synkro, troy gunner, szare and stickman, mindset records return with a debut 12 inch for longtime friend of the label, elsewhere. hailing from the same rural locale as sometime production partner stickman, elsewheres infinitely technical productions bear the hallmarks of a studio obsessive, with production values of a higher level helping to deliver three tracks of a unique quality. with productions informed partly by seminal trips to london to stand in front of dmz soundsytems, elsewhere reworks the dystopian dread and power of that sound into something entirely new, with lead track trippin already finding its way into the record bags of akkord, lone, troy gunner and more. bott bott displays intense dynamics with a smartly deployed vocal and a ruthless subbass underpinning a ferocious uk funky influenced drumtrack whilst the espers comes with alternating slices of rude ukg swagger and some subtle atmospheric work.

benny rodrigues is not only a nice dude with his first 12inch for desolat. his recording career goes way back to early collaborations with afrojack or darko esser, as rod he releases on klockworks and clr, has remixed josh wink and dj pierre. the list can go on, but well focus on our lovely release here. somewhere between relentless prime time techno and stripped-down house grooves, with woozy chords carried on a jet-stream of tight rhythms, this is definitely our favorite benny rodrigues release. enjoy!

eddie flashin fowlkes has always fancied himself as the forgotten producer of the detroit militia, a point which he explicitly points to on the title of this new release for the detroit wax imprint. >unsung hero< is, interestingly enough, quite noticeably un-detroit sounding, rolling on a killer funky 2-step groove and breezy keys which would slot in nicely against the mellower end of uk garage. on the flip >we need more< takes a stripped approach to house with some strange and submerged vocals from don q and restrained organ stabs, leaving it to the steadfast, bongo-laden groove to do most of the work. unsung hero indeed!

permanently being busy performing, the so funky duo masomenos nevertheless take their time to produce. such as the artwork basically already is announcing it, things go in cycles in masomenosville (s/s). so, this ep is the start of a new series, and a delicious example on how to effectively create different moods.. st jacut (with lemos, feat. jaw (dop) is the charming vocal opener... go on my son (with lemos) is the classic housey lift-up, tomorrow (feat jaw (dop) got that reflective vibe. finally tofidi (with lemos) is an ohhh so effective masterpiece...yeppa.!!

badboe is back with the second ep from his upcoming album pump up the funk coming out in the end of 2012. 4 brand new hot funky jams from the funk master himself - all mixed up and road-tested to perfection. following up on the success of his one of those days ep which has topped the breakbeat charts on both digital and physical format.
badboe is one of the key players in the nu funk scene and with this release he is stepping well into the world of ghetto bass and electro vibes, but without loosing the funk and soul that he is so respected and loved for. this release is already getting support from some of the major players in the ghetto funk scene and has been very well received on a recent badboe tour to australia and new zealand.

>die 4 u< is the murk follow-up to last years underground anthem >amame<, which was released by murk under the intruder moniker. murk consists of miami based producers oscar g and falcon. they are responsible for some of the biggest house records of all time, including >fired up< released under the funky green dogs moniker.

calis pacific horizons return with their most club friendly 12 inch to date. club meds is a funky slice of balearic punk inspired by their years in san fran dancing to early breakbeats. fata morgana is an industrial dance inspired cut with a solid club feel. stunning.

ig cultures holy rollers label comes correct with two fiery, teched-out funky bombs from major notes. the >o beasity ep< is his debut on holy roller and one of the freshest funky 12 inches we have heard in 2012 - not watered down or some tepid attempt at house proper. >rokit< works out some killer tribalist polyrhythms and batty-squeezing bass pressure laced with shades-on synth beams on the a-side, up there with the likes of funkystepz or ill blu, while >o beasity< gets overlarge on the flip, wrangling martial snares, tribal calls and hard-bodied bass with the ruffest intent.

foam fangs could be a term used to describe silks preferred take on that too-easily dismissed 70s dancefloor dementia of disco – the soft bite, love nibble, mirrorball on steady/ready perma-revolve. jesse reiner (jonas reinhardts first mister, alongside past/part-time collaborators like phil manley of trans am and damon palermo of mi ami/magic touch), who never quite had the kranky krinkle of his ohm-ambient labelmates, travels head-on, tomorrowland-style, through long-form cosmic moroder constellations of >foam fangs<. nothing frothy about it, though there is a bit of the rubbery in reiner’s bounce-about, cool, funky kraut-disco. suddenly we are beaming back to a time when the world looked forward, envisioning a 21st century decked with silver, chrome, and neoprene. it is a sonic space both transparent and shiny, the metallic ding and cold ribbon of data, scrolling through infinite space. the opener, >foam fangs<, transports us instantly into an ever-expanding universe of sound and light at once fanning out and folding in on itself. variations on that theme continue as the jonas journey oscillates through the beat-beyond.
