Earlier this year they branched out as a record label, launching with a well-received split EP from Sun People & Franjazzco. Their second release features two new tunes by Sun Peoples Simon/off as well as a splendid remix by Bass Clef. Early support comes from Scratcha DVA (Hyperdub), Brackles (Rinse FM), Phon.o (50Weapons), and Bunzer0 (Sub FM), and with a strictly limited run of 250 pressed, this is a 12 inch that will be in demand long after supply holds out.
Simon/off has already stirred international attention with releases on renowned labels such as Immerse Records or Phuture Shock Musik. ‘Take It Back’ puts together nicely cut-up vocals, a classy bassline and pure 4x4 pressure, bringing back sweet memories of legendary UKG old-school grooves from the early ‘00s.
On the flip, ‘Just To’ won't stop firing toms, hats and rim-shots into the air, leaving just enough space for a few carefully interspersed samples, essentially jazz and voice. For his remix, Bass Clef picks up the vocal as well as a tiny bit of that jazz vibe, before twisting it up in a dirty beat full of verve and grime.
