stay underground it pays returns! relatively unknown newcomer modula brings us a slab of ruff n ready analog cuts, with a real standout remix from fuckthegovernment! said remix of controllo by f.t.g is so good that it is the opener of the whole record. it’s a remix built for late night experiences, one for the warehouse, with it’s wailing, ravey vocal samples and subterranean rolling acid bassline. the a side is rounded off by modulas tape mix of controllo. doing what it says on the tin, the graininess and saturation that tape production brings is instantly noticeable. while the tape mix is not as sinister as f.t.gs remix, nor as spatially dense, its greater emphasis on synth work is bound to make it a favourite for many suit fans.the b side takes on more of techno form than the a side. kicking off with intrigo (tape edits), the pad sounds give it an ethereal atmosphere, contrasting the almost militant feel of the percussion and bassline. immerso (instrumental mix) is probably the highest energy pick of the bunch, lots of bleepy synth work and crispy power claps might make this track the djs pick of the record. all in all, a top record from modula! dont sleep on it!

automat and max loderbauer open proceedings on the new selekt label quite masterfully with an auspicious 4 track ep - verstärker / hall / kompressor / echo. how did this come about? automat, busy recording their second album, came across max loderbauer in the neighbouring studio. they got along swimmingly and started working together straight away. everything played live, no overdubs as automats bass player georg zeitblom confirms - first take, no shake. the studio was stripped down to basics. no computers though: a tape machine, guitar amplifier, analogue eqs, rehearsal space: re-rewind, the crowd say bo selekter!

with this compilation aarhus-label help recordings presents a selection of electronic music, giving it the self-evident title *relevant material*. on the first face, an uncredited weird intro is followed by two tracks from two debutants. the lofi energy of brooklyn-based love letters is followed by a new-and-classical house-sound from sports, the younger brother of the two label-heads. on the flipside older brother central, who recently appeared on the the neighbour-label nord records, shows his calmer and more melodic side. the local group lester, who did the first tape on the label, deliver a playful jam, a groovy exploration of machine dance music. the final grooves of the compilation reveal another uncredited sportive track.

currently causing quite a stir on the underground, the jerome hill remix of marshall jeffersons s trax classic lost in the groove is a complete re-interpretation, solid jacking (hard) house music using the original vocal that s cut loud onto the vinyl and worms inside your head and has been doing serious damage in the clubs and festivals last year. now with all licensing and red tape cleared away, it s set for release. dancer boom boom is actually a collaboration between acid legend adonis and sidney winters, with a mix down by house legend frankie knuckles. this sat on the b side of am a dog on trax records and is rare & obscure to say the least, but once the needle touches the groove you know it s a killer. massive kick drums and mysterious organ scales, this one is a mad mad tune ! produced in 1987 (and sounding like nothing else from that year) it s been given a very slight and very respectful re-arrangement by jerome hill, remastered and cut super loud. strictly limited and if the previous titles on the label are anything to go by, this one will sell out equally quick.

kirlian camera are one of the pioneers of the italian electronic scene. active since 1979 under the name suicide commando, the band changed name in 1980 releasing the first demo-tape dawn and the self-titled mini-album in late 1981. the early records contain a mix of synth pop and new wave/dance songs, while towards the end of the 1980s kirlian cameras music became darker, turning into electro-gothic sound. nearly every release since then has explored different fields, from industrial to ambient and trip-hop.

following his appearance (albeit in remixed form) on the debut 12- from keyboard masher s pleasure unit imprint, norwegian eccentric skatebard is given the honour of releasing the label s second ep. apparently all three tracks are vintage cuts from the archive, previously unheard but original recorded straight to tape in his home studio. there s naturally much to enjoy, beginning with the scandolearic-goes-rave synth-house madness of -react 2 rhythm- - all urgent, swirling beats, epic synthesizer melodies and mid- 90s us garage influences. there s more surging, nu-disco goes-house fare to be found on -it goes on & on (the bassline)-, while -pingu- is a joyous chunk of chugging scandolearica blessed with tactile shaker percussion and a jaunty, rock solid synth bassline.

another classic from the west end archives! forrrces keep on dancin from 1982 was a huge record across the board from bronx block parties to the paradise garage in nyc and dj harveys moist nights in london town, its popularity was bolstered by a fierce francois k dub mix on the b-side that stripped the record right back to it s most basic elements with a healthy dose of reverb assisted psychedelia thrown in for good measure! this killer cowbell led boogie jam has always been a big hit with disco freaks and continues to sound fresh some 30+ years later even making its way into veteran uk dj and music historian sean ps 100 boogie essentials 1980-1984 list. high praise indeed!re-mastered from original tape transfers, re-pressed and made available again for 2015 in conjunction with west end records, new york city.

lobster theremin present their first label album, a double lp from chicago resident and elusive young talent, chicago jim. having cut his teeth on a life growing up in the windy city, jim s reverent ability to spin synthopian tales of old-school chicago and the birth of house music are a genuine reflection of a talent rarely seen at the helm of records in the post-00 s. label head jimmy asquith discovered the album online, originally released through chicago tape imprint pretty all right, and after streaming one track said tape was swiftly purchased and absorbed.

marking a clandestine arrival out of, seemingly, nowhere, black swan emerges from the shadowy billows of smoke to immerse listeners in a lucid, cavernous dream, tracing silhouettes in the darkness with drowning ambience and orchestrated drones that screech and howl intermittently amongst the disorienting magnetic tape disturbances. black swan operates under a guise of far-away sounds traveling through murky waters, drowning the listener in its heavy-handed layers of ghostly resonance.

the act of shimmering is the act of leaving conscious thought behind. it s accepting what lies beyond the corporeal, transcending the physical, the soul is aware and the body, eyes, skin are distant empty casings. a clamorous, chaotic cacophony surrounds a beatific center. an endless assault of guitar, of noise that glistens, a poignant rigor. jannick schou, proprietor of tape loop drone, places himself within the tunnel of din to produce this profound work: an ethereal dream using nightmarish parts and images. black and grays generate vibrant innards. brightness is unearthed within the fetid mass and these six tracks immerse the listener into a raging sea to find a gentle undertow. furious outbursts emerge from simple, slow shivers. tremors of noise gather, reaching an elongated crescendo, becoming transformative, and shattering what form or structure was designed to contain such an outpouring of sound.

parrish smith s debut of dystopic forbidding sets the tone of this label s impressive first release with a superb stark, acid ridden slab of body music. helena hauff adds to the proceedings with her remix of pankows >das vodkalied< taking no prisoners and using heavy percussion in contrast to a wonderfully tense set of arpeggiations, which all descend into skull crushing pressure. carrying over to the flip side are pankow, pioneers of the italian industrial/ebm scene, with two tracks from their legendary first tape -throw out rite- from 1983. with das vodkalied disembodied vocals are cut up and come from every direction driven by a raw, off-kilter energy and pounding beat. i m food for you cranks up the drive and anxiety to create a killer track based around stark arpeggiation. last of all, perseus traxx provides an acidic stripped down venting of frustrations which he spits out with vehemence.
