when something new starts it s because there s a need to wander further, to cut deeper. mrt is a result of this. for their first record the newly formed division of lux rec teamed up with benedikt frey. three perfect tracks to start the journey, build foundations and describe the far off obscure fringes of the mrt universe. the introduction of portal, a dreary number, together with telamon, acidic march, and stereobate, relentless physical techno music, portrays the musical range and qualities of benedikt, and sets the path for mrt.

bright sounds marks its fourth release by unearthing a hidden late-nineties techno gem: having been a long term fixture of kennedy smith s record bag, the bright sounds label owner leapt at the opportunity to reissue swedish producer henrik johansson s 1997 plug research ep as smyglyssna. carrying all the hallmarks of the dense, cerebral techno that has established the bright sounds catalogue so far, the reappearance of the dold ep on the label makes perfect sense as it continues to cement its place among the most exciting techno labels to emerge in the past 18 months. vinyl only release

there are two front-cover artworks on one record: one by stefan marx, one by alex solman info: back in 2012, benjamin brunn played a heartbreaking ambient liveset at the almighty golden pudel club, hamburg. his set was recorded and released as a cd on pudel produkte. as it was the perfect soundtrack for the lazy days at smallville recordstore, we all felt the urge to release this on vinyl- and during a blurry smallville night at pudel, we decided to do it. benjamin cut out two parts of 20 minutes each and here it is as a limited recordstore day 2015 item. there are 2 front covers on this fullcover sleeve- one from stefan marx and one from alex c.i.a solman, the king of pudel-related artworks and mfoc.

flipping to the aa, seasoned jock, derek kaye has reworked holding on and in the process landed it (and a few others!) in greg wilsons top edits of 2014 chart. by now, you must know that we are very fond of a bit of cheese in our whiskey… rulefinn sidesteps the usual elements of la biondas i got your number to focus on the slick guitar, while retaining the vocals until the end for optimal impact.
after listening to this ep, you will feel like you have been kissed all over.

midgar is proud to introduce a newcomer for the third release. a great debut for the maltese cloned, delivering not less than 4 cuts with sapphire 1990 e.p. the record, way more straightforward and groove centered than the previous midgar outputs, opens with sapphire 1990, track that sounds like very nostalgic memories from a timeless rave. thanks to a genuine simplicity and the great arrangement of its elements, this first cut has the perfect characteristics to become a dancefloor anthem. on the same side, a live out-take from cloned’s repertory, the pendulum swinging synth-lines which dominate pretty direct rhythmics filled with hi-hats and claps over a costant background noise. belgassem as the first cut on the b side, is an absolutely heavy one for the label’s standards, made of deep kickin’ drums and haunting voices empowered by a really strong and obsessive acid-line. closing the vinyl, the slow (and again really acidic) submerging is like a lysergic vessel headed to more comfortable dimensions, where groovy drums are embraced by very bright heavenly pads. sudden death is instead a chilled-out broken beat interrupted by confused speeches and detroitish pads, resulting as a modern ritual of ascension towards higher spheres. corel drives the release to the end, recalling most of its main features: a restless run through misty soundscapes along a path studded of bells and overwhelming, sharp hi-hats.

after the frenzy heat of miami, quantize keeps the fire coming with this release. neil pierce scorches the spring with a soulful groover that sizzles in lyrics & production. neil is on fire and on this release he teams with mike patos to re-introduce/re-produce a classic from mtume. seldom do you hear live bass (john turner) on dance records, and you will appreciate the authentic musical production in this. when you add in vanessa freemans effortless performance on this with vocals that demonstrate that she is the perfect vocalist to re-sing a classic, you are ready she sings of desire and of love with soulful class and delivery.

the final part in the series of three releases featuring remixes from the acclaimed trus me album treat me right roman flugel heightens the tension of somebody building the groove expertly with delay & a perfect flow. its very much in the style of his fantastic jack for daze release last year. -i want you- has been pumping iron & jacked up on steroids by alan fitzpatrick. rocking some seriously insistent action for the heads down crew this is one for the top of the night.

organic textures, hypnotism and melancholy feature heavily in marino s sound and are once again evident in the percolate ep. as its name suggests, the title track bubbles with dancefloor tension whilst its tight groove never quite reaches boiling point. can t feel, on the flip, is more of the same. deep, atmospheric and understated, a perfect example of marino s blossom talent.

our next big release at bad barbie, going out on digital and 12 inch, comes by the hand of aldo cadiz itself, but this time partnered with kareem cali. these two made a fantastic three track ep called monita ep. the first track monita presents a solid base created with a classic tech style and an extremely groovy bass line. full of small arrangements and a crazy vocal line, this tracks its perfect for any club dj. the second track bonita, is the one with the more old school vibe, from the bass line to the main acid synth, which goes evolving softly with a filter during the track to generate the needed tension. all this with a strong tech groove to follow the step of this solid ambience created by the acid synths. the last track moni, also has many techno and acid elements presents. we can perceive the techno soul mainly on the arrangement of the hi-hats and bass line, but the acid synth in triplet at the backend is what generates the crazy vibe and almost hypnotic feeling during the track, playing around with the volume of it. definitely a fantastic release to add to any collection.

dk is back on antinote with a second record that exudes refinement and class a la dk, meaning: perfect pastel pads with sophisticated cowbells, tasteful toms, riviera playboy boogie bass lines and risqué drums.
