us producer d’marc cantu needs little introduction in the world of acid house and techno. since the late 2000s he’s been serving us quality musical output on labels like crème organization, m>o>s recordings, nation, altered moods or spectral sound, just to name a few. as well as his solo productions, he’s also one half of 2am/fm unit, alongside tadd mullinix (jtc / dabrye).
using a selection of hardware tools and analogue machines, his rugged sound draws on house, techno, acid, electro and hip hop and features crafty studio skills, knowing sampling and lovable raw aesthetics, defining his own sound that became known as jakbeat.
his latest offering for little beat different is, well, rather different in comparison to his usual club oriented output. it’s not as focused on straightforward dancefloor bangers, (although they are present here too), but features more experimental pieces, suitable for home listening purposes. totalling almost 38 minutes in length, this project has more of an album feel to it than a 12”.

berlin based japanese industrial synth duo group a make their debut on mannequin records with a killer 3-tracks self titled ep. tommi tokyo (synth, drum machine, vocals) and sayaka botanic (violin, tapes and sampler) released 2 studio albums and 1 live album in tokyo, before to move in berlin in 2016. with their mixture of dark minimal synth, avant-noise, striking visuals and performance art, the duo still carries on the very breath of early industrial pioneers such as throbbing gristle, die form, klinik, cabaret voltaire. the ep was recorded in tommi s bedroom and later mixed together with mannequin records head alessandro adriani in his own studio in berlin. the first two tracks of the ep, t.o.p. and ketabali represents the duo personal reaction against the current economy, an up yours to capitalism, news and politics, all permeated by industrial rhytmic-noises and words with no meaning. the b2 alibi instead was inspired by an autobiography of hi-red centre(japanese avant-grade art group in the 60-70 s) written by one of the members, genpei akasegawa. tommi found the word alibi in the book and she just started singing about the group. as she never wrote lyrics for that, during their live performances they are always improvised, so changing and mutating every time.

this is a previously unreleased sun ra solo piano improvisation recorded in june 1990 during an interview with presenter and dj jez nelson at the studios of jazz fm in london.

arkansas native, lee moore moved to memphis in 1975 with only one goal in mind: to make it big in the music industry and to release music that would be played in new york, l.a and everywhere in between. as a singer and songwriter lee moore spent the 1980s collaborating in memphis with the best of the best session musicians and vocalists from labels like volt and stax records to record and release futuristic boogie, soul, and funk. in his quest for a unique sound, he constantly reinvented himself, creating projects with new aliases and concepts, scraping together studio time, and hustling. even today, moores music sounds ahead of its time.

im fluss der neun stücke löst sich der komponist auf und macht musik in ihrer ureigensten dynamik erfahrbar. man wird zeuge davon, wie sich nähe und intimität zu weite und gewalt wandeln, sowie schönheit in alledem zu finden ist - vor allem aber im vergehen. konsequent entwickelt -strom- dabei verschiedenste formwelten, erscheint neblig gefährlich, dann wieder ganz direkt, fast verspielt, bis hin zum erstarren vor der eigenen größe. dabei wurden für -strom- keine pointen erdacht und keinerlei maß genommen. stattdessen wirkt es so, als ob martin kohlstedt es geschafft hätte, der intuition ein monument zu bauen. dabei sind unabänderliche denkmäler gar nicht kohlstedts spezialität, ganz im gegenteil. bekannt geworden ist der thüringer vor allem für die energie und unberechenbarkeit seiner konzerte. nach zwei solo-piano alben legte er schablonen für das instrument ab und entwickelte seine eigene selbstverständlichkeit, elektronik und effekte so zu spielen, als seien sie nur weitere tasten auf der schwarzweißen klaviatur. -strom- ist martin kohlstedts drittes studioalbum und ebenso ein destillat dieser entwicklung wie auch ein blick in die zukunft: bevor der komponist auf sein publikum trifft, prallt er in diesem ersten aller räume mit sich selbst zusammen. inszenierung ist hier fehl am platz. sound und struktur treten hinter den wunsch, mit der musik andere orte zu erreichen. man hört dem nach - seinen händen - die all die arbeit verrichten, feinfühlig und größenwahnsinnig zugleich. und bleibt doch ganz bei sich, wie auf seinen konzerten. mehr braucht man über martin kohlstedt nicht zu wissen.

anfang diesen jahres führte domino records mit domino documents ein sublabel für außergewöhnliche studio-aufnahmen ein, die innerhalb eines tages unter live-bedingungen entstanden sind. nun folgt das frisch gegründete sublabel domino soundtracks, das sein augemerkt auf die musik legt, die manch einer als nur filmisches beiwerk unterschätzt. die erste veröffentlichung darauf entstammt der feder des domino-veteranen dan deacon. mitte oktober erscheint sein soundtrack zur film-dokumentation rat film. die dokumentation ist das portrait der us-amerikanischen stadt baltimore und dessen menschen- wie auch ratten-bevölkerung. die probleme, die mit beider notgedrungenen koexistenz entstehen, bebildert rat film mit überaus einfallsreichen mitteln und erzählt so die kraftvolle geschichte urbaner, sozialer und ethnischer ungleichheiten. dan deacon, bekannt für seinen lustvollen und euphorischen electro-pop ausdruck, hat seinen musikalischen stil für rat film in zurückhaltendere aber nicht minder erfinderische gefilde verschoben. so fand er sogar einen weg, die eigentlichen hauptakteure des films, ratten, eine eigene stimme zu verleihen.
