bret winans (aka cb-r & cb radio) produces music out of a studio in brooklyn. using a variety of gear that has been amassed over the past decade, hes experimented with house, italo, techno and more. 2014 saw the release of cb-rs inside existence, an ep of dub techno and ambient textures that launched the s/p/a imprint. hes also appeared on the 100% silk 2015 label comp, sunset silk, as cb radio with the more italo leaning pacific ocean blues. with each release were opened up to another side of the producers world. available on full color jacket lp by new york based visual artist and musician jay goitia.

new release on eye teeth by israel vines featuring the hybrid techno bass electro anthem “gatekeepers”, the dark techno gem “unscathed” and the ambient “repose in dub”. we started this sublabel as way of exploring pure and experimental techno in an entirely contemporary context (where it often uses historical lenses and a wider musical context). this is techno from detroit and america, not detroit techno. we would like to see american techno evolve, and this new imprint is an attempt to be a catalyst in that arena. this ep was pre-mastered by neel at enisslab studio in rome. the vinyl was mastered by carl at trutone and pressed at archer records in detroit.

the second chapter of the startup label series starts with the dreamy * oaas*. its gravitating ambient body music picks up right where startup label 1 left off. the sparkling dust of quarry_s has settled, and mutates into a liquid morphing bass drizzle. moving on to ‘found_weaver’ the hazy synths find a more rhythmical form accompanied by a staccato groove. when the record is flipped a new world gets exposed on the track * wolf*. a more consistent and articulate track with a killer groove. startup label 2 explores the musical map of clubland travelling further than the dance floor, not afraid of venturing behind the * here be dragons* signpost.

traditional folk music from belgium, performed by swedish youngsters, met by art music with inspiration from the dj-culture. during the fall of 2015, guf (gävleborgs ungdoms folkband) released an album called guf4life where one of its songs got the dj & composer slim vic to react. the rain drenched sounds in the original composition worked as the fundament for two different musical journeys, signed by slim vic. part 1, is a varying composition that take the listener in and out of club music, ambient and the original tracks folk music. part 2, is a very dystopic world of sounds clearly on the border of art music.
