mugwumps subfield label introduces its first signings with the belgian-italo duo front de cadeaux (brilliantly named after the belgian ebm pioneer group front 242). front de cadeaux are dj athome & dj hugosan. hugo runs the roccodisco label with italian disco mastermind rodion (gomma/nein) while belgian killer dj athome has been spinning italo wave & house in brussels since the 90 s. they expertly produced their own brand of supreme rallentato, which is a fucked-up slo-mo italo, acid, disco, techno and house hybrid that so rightly fits with subfield s mission statement of covering subgenres. their 2 first outings on roccodisco have been remixed by fabrizio mammarella and optimos jd twitch, and a staple in ivan smagghes sets. this full ep on subfield features 2 original f2c obscene & dirty slo-mo tracks at their most playful, ouvre ta bouche and front de cadeaux theme plus the magnificent dub-house of killers. remixes comes courtesy of factory floor s gabe gurnsey (dfa) in a quite brutal bleep-techno mood and manchester s nu-balearic kingpin ruf dug (music for dreams), getting into what he described as a 808 snare roll warehouse analog fucked-up version.

during their european tour earlier this year, canadian duo jokers of the scene stopped over for a couple of days at club bizarre studio in northern france. the two pair of producers locked up and came up with betaville and breakwater, two killer lo-fi and spaced out tracks. betaville is a fuzzy dream that will make you dance in slow motion with your head in the clouds. boasting a strong melodic and nostalgic feel, it unfolds its warm analog synth pads, old school sequences and drum machine to psychedelic effect. imagine boards of canada wanting to make you dance. even slower is breakwater, a dirtier, chunkier track that ditches the softness of betaville in favour of a more in your face bass line and all together rougher attitude. it chugs along to old fashioned beat box claps and percussion and quirky synth melodies. lastly betaville gets the timothy j fairplay treatment of being violently pulled apart and chucked in all corners. reminiscent of early chemical brothers music, a heavy beat slaps over agressive drugged up analog sound effects while a repetitive, haunting melody screams on top and reverberated vocals whisper in your ears. scary.

the second installment of almost there series is signed by edanticonf and starts with a six minutes ambient journey dedicated to the memory of max_m. a luminescent constellation where bleeps and sweet arpeggios saturate the atmosphere. the other two tracks presented on this ep describe the typical sound of the italian producer: mellow grooves, organic melodies, slow progression and smooth hypnotic dynamics realized using a full analog setup.

walter gas ep from marcos coya is the first release of gas grabaciones, vinyl-only label from the small south american country uruguay. contains two original tracks and a blasting electro-techno remix from argentinian artist franco cinelli aka psynote. analog machines were used on making this tracks and an excelent mastering work, ensuring great sound at playing it. it’s a 300 limited copies release, with cover art from uruguaian artist carlos paez vilaro.

nice price deal !!! frak are björn isgren, johan sturesson and jan svensson, a trio of synthesizer lovers from sweden. the band was formed when svensson and isgren’s older sisters were best friends and they introduced their little brothers to each other. inspired by severed heads, daf, human league, devo, skinny puppy, the boys began collecting analog equipment and started studio styrka. while the band were still in their early teens they released the first frak cassette album in 1987 on their own record label börft.

unequal is a label founded by anselm from frankfurt am main in 2015. ranging from deep, spaced out analog techno to more droning, industrial rough sounds, the aim is to give an impression of whats going on in the ffm underground these days. sophisticated broken beats and modular synths are essential for this project. unequal means not to be just one specified style but an open-minded platform to express a diverse view of music within the techno genre. with his first ep called -gral-, anselm delivers some cold, moody techno tracks with spherical soundscapes as an connecting element. the title track on the a side is a journey through wide open extramundane synth layers and bubbling acid drops covered by a voluminous bass. b1 is a bit more conventional one with driving hi-hats and slightly jacking beat whereas b2 is four-to-the-floor trippy stripped-down minimalism for the heads.

parisian label escapade launches with a four-track 12inch by yuri shulgin. the russian artist first appeared in 2010 under the mistanomista moniker on the italian label black sunshine. he later released three records under his real name, first on anton zaps ethereal sound, then on black wall and finally on modernista.

banoffee pies records return to their original white label imprint for another limited ep with bp003. tip. again the bristol label continue to compile artists and styles from all over following there no f***s given approach. the one sided a1 heavily samples a drum solo from the blockbuster film of 2015 whiplash, a strung out track filled with space and delicate percussion. jaffa surfas b1 provides a mid way techno break pumped with analog sounds and a swirling kick throughout. to end, the finely unearthed and re-issued b2 edit closes this diverse release with a bang offering something completely different. rolling jazz feelings for the dance floor. more love for the banoffee people.
