it seems like no part of the world has evaded discos ubiquitous inuence, including the caribbean. the caribbean in the late 70s and early 80s was a hotbed of musical activity and this compilation focuses on the best disco-inuenced tracks from trinidad and tobago, jamaica, and the bahamas. all of the tracks here were ocially licensed and reissued for the first time ever. highlights of the 13 tracks included on this compilation are: the under-the-radar cosmic disco tune -got to have you- by joanne wilson, a rare p&p records-inuenced track -dance with me- by odessey one, the icy cool synth-trenched -living on a string- by wild fire, the incredible dance oor-friendly -instant funk- by merchant, and the disco reggae cover of -rapper s delight- by prince blackman. this compilation was compiled and researched by deano sounds and includes edits by al kent, the whiskey barons, and waxist selecta.

leao is the house alter ego of respected tech producer robotneedsoil. here he supplies two killer house tracks that are given the remix treatment by two of the industries current favourites, kindimmer & jacob b. the ep lifts off with the original mix of drop that and wastes no time getting down to business. tough beats and throbbing bass meets cool stabs and vocal stabs urging you to -take your body back-. the jacob b remix of the same track is ruthless. taking no prisoners with a sub heavy mix that never veers from dance floor destruction. the b-side kicks off with leao s second original offering. this is house with heavy footwear. something more stomps, elbows and swings it s way through an intricately placed web of percussion. kindimmer s alien remix subtly uses elements of the original while at the same time segueing into new territory. its deep and eerie, soulful and moody. all the things that have made the berlin based greek one of the most sought after remixers in europe

33-10-3402 is a code name for nenad markovic, an imaginative and limitless musician and producer from belgrade, serbia. this release is the second in a trilogy of opium den and whore-house inspired singles entitled mecanica. iii33 features a disorienting vocal, that repeats as if caught in a psychedelic cycle your mind cannot break, accompanied by stuttering percussive elements and metallic textures. cool down is a post-apocalyptic drum circle that keeps your groove alert as it moves between accent placement and eventually builds into a full force bad acid trip. be careful with this record.

catalognumber 23 – what else is to say? while we are feeling the spirit of william s. burroughs blessing this very vinyl-enigma, &me went particularly mysterious ways to transcend the category - dance track - for this one. the meditation through bass had been the major discipline of some of his latest cuts, but what you will find on this a-side, one could certainly call the perfection of somnambulistic peaktime-fever. the way he is kneading the lower frequencies, how he is channeling the expansion and decay of bass must inevitably lead to some aroused moaning. good vocal-selection, for that matter! then there are those tension building synths and a staccato-frenzy in the break that might be the ultimate ecstasy-trigger of the season. * locust* on b comes in with some smoothly looped e-guitar-coolness, adding whispering hi-hats and a comparatively rich percussive architecture. but then again: rolling bass barrels like a signature and a defence breaking build up thats ensued by liberating pressure compensation in mighty breaks. two demonstrations of understated and sophisticated peaktime-emphasis, so to say. or differently put: a flawless double-a-side.

vin sol & matrixxman return with their second double-header of remixes of one of the most distinctive voices in modern music, revisiting two of the hallowed songstress classics from the 80s. first up is the beautiful *never thought* which has been given the remix treatment many times before due to the accapella being on the original 12 inch. here vs & m add early 90s house flourishes - warm pads, deep chords and the original vocal seeping in and out of the mix, whilst elements slowly start to build up for what is a pretty ecstatic house rework of a classic. simple and effective. fans of innervisions wont be disappointed! on the flip, *love is stronger* is a mellower take on one of her signature hits. sticking to a cool 110 bpm tempo, it has got a bubbly, woozy late sunday afternoon vibe emanating from the first 4 bars. another solid rework from the vin sol & matrixxman camp!

with *closer* masterton debuts on blackfoxmusics 19th release (bfm019). *closer* is a warm track with a deep groove and beautiful melodies. it relates to living in a long distance relationship and overcoming a lack of proximity.
robert babicz (babiczstyle, systematic, bedrock records) created an incredible remix. he used lots of the original melodies, combined them with new elements, added rolling drums and a thick bassline to give the track the extra drive. his remix became a constant part of his live sets and was debuted with great response at grelle forelle (vienna) and ritter butzke (berlin).
channel x (stil vor talent) remixed *closer* into a pretty cool and clubby deep house track. you can feel their berlin origin when listening to the groovy bassline with variations of the melody. finally the breaks capture the mood of the dissonant sounds from the original track.

extremely welcome vinyl reissue for this highly collectible and obscure early 80s jazz-funk-disco fusion lp from david astri. originally released on tiny baltimore label award, the album oozes quality all the way from the excellent opening track, super-cool sexy floor-filler *get down to it* - with standouts including the superb brass-driven funk workout *do it right*, the beautifully delicate and dreamy *safe and sound* and breezy summer groover *everyone has feelings*, both with sweet vocals from karen goldberg. however, the lp saves the best till last with an amazing eight and a half minute version of the wonderful in-demand electro funk boogie burner *dancing digits*, a big play for many discerning djs including harvey, todd terje etc. dont miss your chance to own this fantastic slice of jazz-funk heaven.
