untolds pennyroyal imprint drops its fourth release in august, a four track ep from techno heavyweights ben sims and paul macs fokus group project entitled fokus group ep. started by the hemlock recordings man earlier in 2013, pennyroyal has so far released ballsy, uncompromising modern techno by j tijn and boner m and that musical remit continues with sims and macs hardcore fuelled, selftitled assault. nut nut, mucky crack funk, 93.2 and rave x3 = murder and the titles and they pretty much speak for themselves – there is a reckless abandon across all four cuts that musically gives off a distinct old school feel feel without getting bogged down in self conscious retro aesthetics.

it is no secret that ben watt has chosen to close his acclaimed label buzzin fly to new music after ten great years as one of the uks leading dance independents. but the label has chosen to go out with a bang with one final single. unearthed from the vaults are two dazzling tracks from cornerstone artists, rodamaal, and manoo and francios a. rodamaals fortune was originally completed back in 2007 but scheduling problems prevented it from being released at the time. produced by the franco-portuguese trio (rocco, darkmountaingroups alex santos and manoo) it is a stark but emotionally-charged deep-techno masterpiece, that deserves its place alongside their other classics for the label, musica feliz and insomnia. on the flip, and originally produced in 2005, is other places a long-lost track by manoo and francois a. full of summer shimmer and heavy bass tones, it was produced by the duo during their heyday at the label, and was a secret favourite of label boss, ben watt. two perfect swansongs. buzz buzz.

samuli kemppi may have begun in warm house climes as the duo sam & gigi, but he has since found his niche and fame sound tracking the deep and icy black recesses of space. 2009s komisch debut, deep space helsinki ep, birthed the galactic signature that would come to define his solo techno output for labels like prologue, mote-evolver and perc trax, meanwhile cementing his stylistic meanderings to a single, albeit flexible, narrative. parallax of one second ep is samuli kemppis third outing on m rec ltd, after the full cyclic model ep and remix inclusion on ben gibsons more than milk, and sees the fin plundering the astronomic theme once again with stellar sci-fi precision.

jamie jones is back with a killer release for crosstown rebels. new single moan & groan is a vintage jones production full of bounce, quirks and sex appeal. its joined by two remixes of tonight in tokyo from jamies album of secret weapons tracks from the crypt, released last summer. both showcasing their own sharp, signature styles, ben westbeechs darker alias breach drops the deep bass while french house icons cassius introduce epic chords and sky­scraping synth lines

daniel helmer and ben manzone started making tracks as sycorax back in early 2011. since then they have self-released 2 in demand 12 inches. in the spring of 2012 they debuted their live all hardware set at the bunker in brooklyn. their second 12 inch titled orfamay quest was a top seller of 2012 at halcyon records. mike simonetti has known ben from sycorax for over 15 years, and is probably more proud of this release than any other to date. true underground sounds.

berlin based brit ed davenport launches his own counterchange imprint, titled after his defining debut lp last year on uk label nrk. maintaining the concept of presenting bold, contrasting and multi-faceted dance music, the label will release new material from ed alongside other artists, ranging from techno, house, electronica, and beyond. blending atmospheric house with heavily laden techno, davenports inland project was first revealed on the berlin based falkplatz label in 2012, with the self titled inland ep.
