the first release on the newly established greyhound days imprint comes from christian kroupa alias alleged witches, hailing from slovenia, who proved his skills and innovation as a participant at the red bull music academy in 2014.

nach zwei gefeierten eps veröffentlicht jackson phillips a. k.a. day wave sein langerwartetes debütalbum the days we had. headcase aus dem jahr 2015 mit der durchbruch-single drag überzeugte sofort mit dem träumerischen surfpop, der nachfolger »hard to read« legte noch eine schippe drauf. inspiriert von den gesangsharmonien der beach boys auf der einen und den songstrukturen von joy division und den frühen new order auf der anderen seite, nahm der sänger und multiinstrumentalist die ersten skizzen ganz analog an gitarre, bass und schlagzeug auf.
jetzt folgt also die erste lange platte von phillips musikalischem soloprojekt. obwohl phillips sich selbst als seinen größten kritiker betitelt, hat er das album nur mit unterstützung des toningenieurs mark ranken fast im alleingang eingespielt und produziert. so entstanden elf wunderschöne songs mit gitarrenbasierter melodieführung und voller elektronischer tiefe und wärme. live wächst dieses soloprojekt zu einer band. zusammen mit seinen musikern erzeugt der kalifornier mit seiner weichen und gleichzeitig sehr eingängigen stimme und seinem lässigen charme eine zauberhafte stimmung. die melancholisch-melodiösen songs zünden sofort, wenn phillips und seine jungs auf der bühne stehen.

ethimms second ep when in dark delivers the groups signature tension music with moods oscillating between suicidal heartbreak and conciliatory optimism. in the opening track why (a cover of the rhythm and sound classic), producer elisabeth thimm sets the stage for guest singer veronique to mourn love s loss, while brian gimmel s improvised piano licks hold strong agains the songs relentless bassline. the follow-up track late features lexx s dreamy lyrics gracing a subtle dance foor tune for spaced-out souls. the b side opens with ethimms love for dub. next is a freaked-out meditation on what has been and will be, while the fnal track done slowly creeps towards its peak, refecting on dark days where light may have not been much in sight, but going forward sees optimism, increased resolution, and drive.

coeo are to toy tonics records, what master at work were to the house scene of the 1990ies: they bring the soul into the house. their new ep back in the days is a 4 track house stomper that could have been made in 1997 by guys like sneak, dimitri from paris or little louie. but still the similarities to the new berlin sample-house scene around max graef and hodini are evident, too. already their last years superhit native riddim (which is featured as a bonus track on this vinyl) included some heavy jazz samples they found in their parents bag of soul. native riddim has been no.1 in the traxsource charts for several weeks and was the basis for their already huge following. from laurent garnier to tensnake - the feedback has been awesome. now they proceed their way of souldful house. just good taste.
