after more than a year in the making we are almost ready to release the final chapter in psychemagiks magik series. due to incredible responses from the artists we contacted we ended up with more tracks than we needed for one album so it was decided to release magik sunset in two parts. both albums contain yet more of the long lost and obscure tracks that the previous compilations have presented and part one is now available on double vinyl in gatefold sleeve.

our first release for 2015 comes from chicagoan, area. his previous releases on various labels including his own, kimochi, show a producer who spans many genres while maintaining a particular aesthetic. this untethered approach has lead to *one less me* — one of his most moving records to date. area has melded elements from bass music, industrial, electroacoustic, spoken-word and techno into 3 tracks that distill their influences into something greater than the sum of its parts.

up first on okno is the restless naples producer, nplgnn. after vividly capturing our attention with his first release, meccano on nute, nplgnn followed up with his first 12inch release on whereiidance, sigma / tau. nplgnns uniquely straight up analogue dancefloor jams (just check acid ufo) have unsurprisingly been snapped up and played by tastemakers including ben ufo, low jack and mumdance. 2015 is bound to be a top year for this guy, and we are excited to present his first release of the year. 1925 ep delivers three slabs of kickdrum-heavy rhythmic excursions, ranging from the detroit-flavoured 1925 ft deep to 90s inspired ravers are still living. true tackle.

a1, entitled the weapon, is a pushy tune driven by sheer 909 rawness and that legendary dx7 bass we have come to love on many of jacob s tracks. a2, appropriately titled -from the underground (jmf s fatty rub), remixed by the english producer, jmf. keeping up with the energy of this release, a2 brings a tech-like jack vibe to the table. b1, entitled from the underground, is the original mix from which jmf reworked on side a. this track brings a tougher, darker vibe to the mix with a strong bass and steady pumping 909 riffs. b2, warehouse stomp, doesn t fall shy of its name.

based in berlin, slow life is a multidisciplinary collective of spanish and italian creatives led by percussionist sergio moreira. his production first caught the ears of phonica via a trilogy of highly impressive 12 inchs on the group’s slow life label, all of which were instant hits and flew out the shop. for this release, moreira teams up with xinner for three of the ep’s four tracks and the results are a spellbinding journey through deep, hypnotic techno, broken beats and submerged ambience. the artwork is once again by acclaimed visual artist jack featherstone, the designer of a number of sleeves for border community, electric minds, warm and of course, phonica.

armando gallop, the legendary chicago producer & dj whose career was tragically cut short by his death in 1996 left behind a legendary reputation as one of the windy citys finest. having released on seminal labels such as, trax, musique, westbrook and his own warehouse imprint, armando brought his own rough hewn brand of machine funk and acid to the table and the dance music world has been much better off for it since.

two sides from our favorite early 80s lover lew kirton. its the first time the sexy soul mans two track have been 45! both solid tried and tested lp tracks, but who wants to spin lps. 15 years of doing a club every week and you end up with some secret weapons, *something special* was always a big tempo change record. everyone is tired from dancing for two hours to fast disco, modern and deepfunk and without warning you just drop this badboy in take it down a notch and let the dry riding commence, solid. on the flip is lews straight up jack of gloria gaynors *i will survive*, pure shameless anthemic dancefloor disco smasher that i have championed for years, that catchy guitar line over lews big voice never tires.

chaotic, acidic jack tracks are the order of the day here, dancer aka sidney winters, dropped this obscure bomb on trax in the peak year of 1987. both sides are mixed by the late, great frankie knuckles and have all the trademarks of his touch, tough drum machines, italo inspired melodies and thundering bass-lines. these monster tracks sound absolutely massive and will surely do damage when dropped today.

the original, with a well-constructed bassline incorporates a warm up melody that begins to set the tone for the night ahead. each layer is distinct as the track begins to build itself right to its crescendo when each of those individual layers collectively come together. you can distinctly hear the 80 s like synths that are cleverly inserted into the track which are highlighted by the female vocal samples. the grittier elements add a touch of darkness and instantly transport you to a warehouse club with an intimate atmosphere. the remix, done by the widely loved tech-house duo pleasurekraft jack up the tempo a notch, and add a bouncy groove to the track. where the original brought out a darker side, the remix is more upbeat and settles in well for a peak hour set. bringing that crisp bassline to the fore, and tuning out the melodies to make them a tad subtler it showcases a more tech-house version of the original. there s an added element a slightly more haunted vibe which is coupled together with those gritty and harder elements. all i can conclude is what a tech-house bomb this is from the highly talented pleasurekraft. they always manage to bring something new and unique to every single track they ve ever remixed which truly shows their remarkability as consistently good producers.
