san fran-based artist, tape_hiss releases his second ep on love notes and you can clearly hear both his sound and the label s maturing in tandem. moving on from the depth of his first record, love is a dog from hell, tape_hiss takes things into headier waters, going heavy on the acid and the rugged basslines on this 4 track ep. angelian war storm begins in exactly that fashion, with 303s squelching and bassbins rattling. this continues through the clear standout trackout, the vivian girls. the gears shift a bit on the b1 where sistrum boss, patrice scott is allowed to rework the vivian girls and does so in a warbly, dirty jazz fashion. tape_hiss then closes things out with the title track, realms of the unreal, which uses an appropriate sample annoucing, “this is me, yo. right here”, and it does very much sound to us like this budding artist is annoucing himself to the world in a most proper fashion. we can’t wait to hear what comes next from both artist and label.

rnt is going back to the roots of their reserve series with rose cutz 2, a pack of burners and heaters from rose records honchos luvless and m.ono. each producer takes a side, delivering a little something for any time of night, from the up tempo stomp of eins a legge to the slow analogue pulse of file save as. a rose by any other name is still a banging record!

newborn munich based label slam city jams comes around the corner with its first release from young gun gonima straight outta montreal, canada. his grids ep? an exciting mixture of swinging distorted drums, catchy melodies and hazy atmospheres. you can definitely spot gonima s passion for dx7 adventures, analog drums and tape hiss right here. opener -grids- starts off with lush synth blips, 707 drums and a bassline bootsy collins would give high-fives for. -subdivided- is one of these tracks that shows you that it doesn’t need more than a few elements to get you going: a rough kick drum, cowbells and a smooth pad that gets slapped by just one bass note. the last original on b2 is the ambient-like -organ tutorials-, which shifts your mind directly to outer space. and as if all this wasn t enough, someone really special did a great remix job – khotin from 1080p fame, who gave the a2 cut a treat with his unique trademark sound. four house and ambient tracks both for the floor and the couch. or as gonima puts it: -an ep that has the sound of visiting home in the winter and rediscovering environments frequented in the past, birthing previously obscured memories. the sounds within are a ritual dance to stay warm through the procession of the seasons-

in the month june of 2011, karton saw its gaily arise and nestled itself in the prism of deep electronic music people nowadays know as deep house, tech house and other minimalistic still unknown sub-genres. determined to do it right instead of wrong, the label has pursued their hunch in the on going quest of being a cool, fresh new imprint. this quest has made a path for karton, which has made them hatch music for certain styles of nightlife.

opening things up, the sinister title track is a dense, winding affair built around staggered tribal patters and powered along with a brooding reese bassline. he/at’s “set openers” have become something he is known for and this is definitely one of his most dramatic. after that madness, “it’s impossible to describe the smell of a wet dog” strips things right down with subtly chaotic-timed rhythms and synth-work. kind of minimal...but not.
on the flip side, “a drama out of a crisis” is a straight-up new-meets-old techno stomper with early beltram-esq beats and modulated melodies, before the ep closes out with the rawness, “the man who made husbands jealous” is a tough acidic kind of work out with an infectious hook we think you’re going to like.

gazel is one of those tunes that went viral from the very first minute. djs like baris k, ata or acid arab are still playin this tune since it was made in 2013. mehmet aslan and dario rohrbach finally managed to create with gazel this kind of tune that blows away every dance floor. the impact was not only on the dance floor. several threads on social media appeared with videos, desperately looking for the track id. but there were also the ones, that had to rip it of a set of baris k, so they can play it. the b-side goes definetly deeper when alma negra is able to make a tune you want to open your set. on this gem they combine northafrican folklore sounds with classic deephouse drumpatterns and trippy synths. fleeting wax has managed to put together some of the most promising artists of the hour, having dario rohrbach on board who is part of the alma negra collective and will hit this year with promising releases for example on yoruba. this release is going to find his way in many dj-bags and wont leave it so fast

cocoon recordings is back with another limited 10inch edition! scotsman vince watson and frankfurt cocoon family member frank lorber are in charge for our latest baby and with no exageration we feel this is going to be one of this years highlights! although hailing from erskine in scotland and meanwhile residing in amsterdam speaker freaker by vince watson appears like a detroit house gem in perfection! this is planet e, this is electronic art, this is a deeper than deep tech-house-lovers delight! if you missed the high times of detroit techno maester vince watson beams you straight back to it - however not without adding up to date soundscapes and frequencies. you might guessed it already and we have to admit: we really fell in love with this one… big time!

acid future: this is the first time a squelchy acid line has ever featured on a hydraulix release. a tough rumbling reverberated drumbeat, firing on all cylinders with a squelchy 303 sat on top. it’s even got a voice and some reversed bits of 303! what more could you ask for?

after “theory of strings (part1)” ennio colaci and fabio della torre present the second part! the first track of a-side is the one who gives the title to the whole project, - theory of strings-, a dubby groover with a funky and psychedelic feel in the vein of a more coloured and dirtier studio 1 or soundhack. the -feeling good vibe- keeps going relaxed and chill with the smart up and down mood of the track -forty degrees- while on b side minimono get drier, minimalistic and more mysterious with the subtle after-hour jam of rewind. this strong effort by fabio and ennio ends trough the cinematic atmosphere and the romantic piano notes of the gentle but raw closing act -still mine-. mind the strings!

most excellent unlimiteds series of 45s celebrating the 45th year of danny krivits career continues with a blast of two heavyweight cuts that, to borrow the parlance of the era from which they came, are bonafide sure shots. wood, brass & steels *funkanova* a jazz-funk masterpiece and loft classic that was liberally sampled in the house world (black science orchestra, terrence parker, the bucketheads), is pared down to its most joyous elements. from the intro, a typical krivit maestros detail of an opening bass slide prefacing hands-in-the-air cascades of iconic horns and keys, to the echo of the last notes, its a perfect edit immaculately tailored for dj usage. the flip delves deeper into new york city dance history with a rough and rugged beat- down of a proto-disco, b-boy classic: boobie knight & the universal ladys * sex*. displaying his usual knack of going straight for the jugular, krivit takes the songs siren-call-to-the-dance floor horn riff as his starting point, peeling off another layer to the floor-shaking bass and drums before bringing it all back to the top with a perfectly placed drum roll that will have flash disciples fiending for doubles. solidifying this blazing double-sider is the fact that neither of these essential cuts has ever appeared in seven-inch form. another most excellent unlimited sure shot!

belgian duo raw district return to the crosstown rebels label with addicted, teaming up with the formidable aquarius heaven again for the label, this time remixed by the infamous doc martin and keinemusiks rampa. an ex reggae dancehall and hip hop singer aquarius heaven brings the colors of the caribbean to addicted. raw districts flamboyant percussions grinds the beats into a track that stretches the limitations of electronic music. rampas remix illustrates the breadth of his studio skills, as founder of a production company teile, he builds soaring synths and strumming piano to elevate the emotional aspect to addicted equipping it for the early hours of the night. doc martin has earned the respect of many over his extensive career for his timeless style that bridge many genres. his remix is a driving, dub-tastic, tribal take on the original that has been going down a storm!

light in the attic reissues their impossible to find 1969 album, originally out on third world recordings ! 5 on kurt cobains top 50 favorite albums. philosophy of the world is a collection of garage rock tunes that balanced charm and discordance in equal measure. in 1968, three sisters from fremont, new hampshire strapped on their instruments and declared themselves the shaggs. at that moment begun a peculiar tale that would last far beyond the groups five-year run. dot, betty and helen (and occasionally rachel, the fourth sister) played in the group on the insistence of their father, austin wiggin jr., who was convinced they were going to be big. years earlier, austins mother gave him a palm reading, predicting that her son would marry a strawberry blonde woman, that he would have two sons after his mother died, and that his daughters would form a popular music outfit. the first two became reality, so austin was certain the third would follow suit.

marathons began innocently, as a quick debut ep by an energetic swedish duo we found on soundcloud. within a couple months of chatting with the pair, artur bra&#776,,ndstrom and egil kahlbom, however, we realized our collaboration wasn t going to be simple, so cut and dry, so straightforward, and that s why we find ourselves here, a year after meeting them with a full album, not an in-and-out single, on our hands. what made it complex and intricate, you ask? why d we opt to squeeze eight originals into one long-player, you wonder? well, artur and egil are prolific dudes with fantastic ears and formidable work ethics. a couple of demos quickly sprouted offspring and became four, then six, then ten. rather than fight the arbitrary desire to trim the spread down to a 12inch, we figured we d aim higher and work on a proper album. what we constructed is, in a very classic sense, a long-player. here s that album! it s a sunny, loose, limber, uninhibited boogie through warm disco cuts and wobbly house jams and soulful funk slices. daytime chill-out with a nightclub architecture—or peak hour mayhem with a bright, clearheaded euphoria. marathons swings every which way and suits any mood, so drop that needle and try it on. then repeat, repeat, repeat.

the intensity of neznan his personality and talent made us decide to go all the way for this release. his story is remarkable and feels like a paradox. his musical ability is full of details and his creativity is a perfect match with float. if you take your time to understand his visions and incomprehensible ideas we’re sure you will love this piece of art as much as we do.

when hitting a streak it s best to keep going. for a prolific producer like ubx127 one ep just wasn t enough to keep up with his continuous output of high quality techno. constant permutation part 2 picks up where its predecessor left off and provides for another batch of deadly club weapons. living up to its title, beatless explorations sends out eerie signals deep into outer space, anticipating with suspense to maybe find some life form s response. it arrives in form of driving track felt and its ricocheting, arpeggiated synths, which would aptly soundtrack the decent of alien attack ships on our planet. weighty, yet mysterious Örnsberg seems to echo with the cries of long lost souls that have been trapped eternally inside its icy caverns. the ep ends with a masterclass in immersive sound design, a constant ebb and flow of layers, winding their way into the listeners subconscious. filling up a pair of twelves to the brim with tunes this well thought out and executed, ubx127 further displays his vast potential and leaves us with excitement for whatever he might be coming up with next.
