that leather glove. that bum. one of the most recognizable and celebrated record covers from the noughties.
critics and audiences alike were blown away by the gargantuan success of the 2001 debut-album of this new york quintet, and we are still recovering from the aftershock ten years later. drawling vocals, bouncy basslines, gnarly guitar riffs, and a steadily chugging beat made >someday< and >last nite< the anthems of a new generation.
so put on your skinny jeans, tousle your hair, and find yourself a model, is this it will make you feel like the coolest kid on the new york block!
180 grams audiophile vinyl pressing.
alden tyrell hooked up with mike dunn for some new work!. a golden combination which already worked out great as we learned from the heavy remix tyrell did for the murphy jax & mike dunn collaboration (its the music - cat# cjfd06). tyrell always jamming and playing around with his synths had some tracks inspired by early mike dunn songs. so the obvious happened ... the hooked up for some appropiate vocals and here it is ... touch the sky! a peak time acid monster with mikes vocal chant in the style of his classic md3 projects. gerd is on remix duty here and delivers a killer remix with a more traditional chicago groove and build up. clone head honcho serge had some studio time with tyrell for a dub mix. the serge & tyrell dub mix turned out a bit wild and became a classic piece of piano and dx bass driven chicago house music with stuttering vocal samples and a acidic synth line. another strong clone jack for daze!
alexander kowalski makes his debut on vince watsons bio music imprint with an awesome ep. berlin resident kowalski has been at the forefront of the german music scene for many years, playing all the big festivals and events across the world for over a decade. with his huge discography, most notibly for his releases on the seminal kanzleramt label, as well as his own imprint damage music, alex has generated a massive following and fans will not be disappointed with this new ep. his recent collaborations with fellow kanzleramt resident diego are nothing short of mindblowing and alex has taken that form forward into this new ep, green eyed.
on the eps selected tracks, deniz, along with hotly tipped producers tanner ross, san franciscos pillow talk and the young brown university graduates voices of black, deliver an array of moods and sounds - from sensually sublime album opener >i knew this would happen< in a special extended version to the jazz infused the beat drops, full of deep atmosphere and heavy bass groove and animated 80s funk of >thunder clap<.
after the explosive statement of intent that was their debut 7inch >speeddance<, reptile youth are back with a vengeance – and this time their laser intensity is aimed fi rmly at the club. the danish duo drop >black swan born white remixes< featuring three sublime cuts of hypnotic house - their second single taken from their upcoming album release on hfn music. experienced house-meisters terranova bring the late night underground vibe to the original – providing two stunning mixes. the >terranova remix< submerges mads damsgaard kristiansens evocative voice into a narcotic groove, teasing out the new wave vocal infl uences and steadily building the tension into a dancefloor burner.
following the war cry of their fi rst single >speeddance<,reptile youth return with another sublime 7inch for hfn music.the second single taken from their upcoming album >black swan born white< sees the youth expand their sound towards a grandiose post-punk pop. already a live favourite at their increasingly intense gigs, mads damsgaard kristiansen vocals soar above the funk-driven robo-rhythm, while an instantly addictive melody references their newwave roots.on the b side, londons futuristic psychedelic no-wavers s.c.u.m provide a remix that drenches the vocals in waves of reverb and suspense, before the track explodes into a churning power riff.

>twistin the night away< was one of cookes more successful lps, only his second ever to chart, and from here on, all of his albums would sell in serious numbers.
this is the remastered version of a record that has been out of print for a (too) long time! pressing on 180 grams audiophile vinyl.
jay west from argentina has been releasing quality deep house (the real sort that is) for the past decade, last years smile ep on bebr got some serious playlist and chart action from everybody who knows their shit, and were please to welcome him to the moodmusic family. the ep starts with blame the music, the sort of feel-good house music we used to get loads of in the early to mid 90s from the big apple. swinging beats, almost disco bass and a sunshine filled vocal are the ingredients for a tune, and jay has delivered one. this will probably not be belted by the kids house community, but real heads knows what to do with this weapon. down continues the journey with victor simonelli style keys and a bouncy bassline, making place for the low-slung in & out tune which have some serious west coast mushroom influences. we love it! to end the ep the catchy little mean machine finally brings the smile to your face.
the byrds were one of the earliest groups who could combine the best of two worlds. they caught on to the energy of the british invasion and combined it with the lyricism & musical elements of the contemporary folk movement.
along the way they pioneered psychedelic and country rock, always keeping things recognizable with their vocal harmonies accompanied by their jangly guitars.
on their third album >fifth dimension< from 1966 they started showing a more lsd-tinged side of themselves with the psychedelic rock of songs such as >eight miles high< and >i see you< and a preference for the indian raga.
one of their most pioneering albums re-issued on 180 grams audiophile vinyl!
bob dylans >love & theft< was a true return to form, his 30th studio album, with the unfortunate release date of september 11, 2001.
his voice is shot, but he sounds warmer, more relaxed, and old mr. grumpy is as good humoured as on >the basement tapes< (movlp 429). bob is in a wistful, elegiac, playful mood. he has recovered the humanity he lost on >time out of mind<, and is looking on life with loving eyes. he has thrown off the weight of life and is remembering a better self. and that makes this one of his more accessible albums, despite a lack of high-flying hit songs.
with beautiful printed inner sleeves and 180 grams audiophile vinyl, this is the first vinyl re-issue since 2001!
forging a fantastic fusion of modern electronic pop, human woman are the new signing on hamburg’s hfn records. originally hailing from iceland, the band consists of gísli galdur thorgeirsson of prolific icelandic band trabant, and producer jón atli helgason aka sexy lazer. now after the launch of their debut single, delusional, with its sensual, indie-dance roots and pleasing 80s/90s undertones, we see the pair expand their vision of modern electronic pop with a feelgood, rich and edgy album spanning 11 glorious tracks.

may 2012 sees the 8th release on krd, picking right up where the label was at with its last release a year ago. >bilal / spider< introduces the new project on land, a solo vehicle for label head edoardo arengi, who previously was in charge of production duties of the shadow sync releases. the title cut >bilal< again attests to edoardos technicall skills - almost twenty years of production experience do indeed show here. a strong minimalistic groove unerringly aims at the heart of the dance floor, and once the classic ride cymbal comes in, >bilal” is sure to have the people moving. for the flip, label owner and producer edoardo arengi teams up with a young gun of berlins techno scene. >spider<, produced together with rudmatis, to his dj-peers known as rødhåd of the dytopian music collective, goes for the darker end of the floor with a hypnotic bassline and slowly modulated sequencer lines. once you are caught in the net, there is no way out!

for some time now the bar25 label has wanted to put out a release with all of our swiss musician friends – the many folks who came to the swiss weekends at the bar and generally made a habit of visiting us in berlin. the bar always had a deep swiss connection, manifested not least in the legendary swiss cabin, home away from home to larger groups of visiting friends and monday evening after-hour hotspot. alpenglühen – feines aus der schweiz (alp glow – swiss bliss) is a swanky double vinyl of high-quality production art made in switzerland. on vinyl 1, animal trainer from hive audio share a side with andri, the zurich native. techno gladiator wandler and live artist canson play the other side, while vinyl 2 lets two matadors from the new zurich club friedas büxe – don ramon and san marco – steer for a while. and the two music geniuses from galoppierende zuversicht are also here, fittingly, using sounds recorded live at friedas büxe for their track. the sampler concludes with the exceptionally talented mastra, who contributed a special song to this swiss musical collage. the digital release also comes with a bonus live track by sublime stage band rizzoknor. even the cover was designed in switzerland, during a bar25 night at the legendary cabaret in zurich. were all excited about this release since its a special one for the 25 label. marked both by good old times and new horizons, this record is a musical compilation representing the very special kind of artist that will always be welcome in wild berlin!

PLACEMENT REMIXES EP (LONE REMIX, MOTOR CITY DRUM ENSEMBLE RMX)
12 Inch 14.05.12
hot on the heels of midlands placement ep, aus returns with a remix 12inch featuring lone & motor city drum ensemble. both producers deliver deep, melodic reinterpretations of the originals, with lone accentuating midlands signature sound (whilst flawlessly incorporating his own neon tinged atmospherics) and mcde dubbing out the original, pushing it into throbbing raw cuts territory. both producers are at the top of their game. lone is dominating 2012 with a residency at manchester hot-spot hoya:hoya, a full length dropping in may via r&s that will surely occupy the top of many year end lists, and remixes for radiohead, tensnake & underworld already under his belt. jazz enthusiast motor city drum ensembles sample-based raw cuts series made him a household name within the deep house scene and last years dj-kicks mix set him apart from the pack with its on point mixing and musical diversity. his notable november 2011 boiler room set is considered one of the finest, and is just another example of why mcde has been, and will remain to be, a musical force to be reckoned with. next up on aus will be an ep from bicep & friends with a remix from panoramabar resident steffi.
second vinyl release from italian kina label comes courtesy of sabe, supported with remixes by rhadow and re-up. pressing on transparent, smokey marbled vinyl.
faze action have never been comfortable with the nu disco tag, and in an age where its dominated by digitally designed and somewhat pedestrian in its tempo the lee brothers return with a dynamic live sound that sets them apart. freak for your love is the lead track from their forthcoming album information overload and straddles a sick dubbed out punk funk groove that brings to mind the sort of incessantly sweat inducing music dfa was releasing in the labels first few years. a pleasant new direction for faze action is explored further on the accompanying new wave disco dub mix that delves further into the realm of echo and delay over that strident groove. the mysterious st holds court on the flip with two rerubs that switch the emphasis up towards a throwback bumping 90s house flex without loosing the originals charm
gogo music is ten years old, and now is celebrating its 50th release. this time it is a great collaboration between ralf gum and robert owens. ralf gums mix is a deep track that start with percussive groove. deep, fat bassline under elettro synths perfect for dancefloor. the remix is under dj spinnas knowledge with same ingredients but more deep and hypnotic. useless to comment robert owens voice. always useful instrumental and beat versions. a package to have ... for sure in top 10.
