boris bunnik is no stranger in the world of electronic music. he released several albums and ep�s under a variety of monikers since 2007 on labels like delsin, shipwrec, frustrated funk and his own transcendent imprint. fauxpas musik welcomes him for a new project called severnaya.

acid paulis album bld dropped earlier this year and was a superb reminder of martin gretschmanns unique place within the electronic music. breathing musicality and adventurousness into everything that he does, the album covered a number of moods and emotions, from dystopian carnivalesque vibes to moments of high intensity, through to deep melancholia and synth laden ambience. following on from the a remix package, b brings another huge selection of producers into the fray to reinterpret the originals. first up, hamburg hero stimming works over �amadou - flipping the original, into a techy bomb. a thick kick underpins a shuffling, off kilter rhythm and beautifully treated melodics. stimmings feel for gently pushing the dancefloor into new places shines through. �rené is reworked by roman flügel, the ongaku/klang/playhouse boss whose influence on the european electronic music scene has been immense. always willing to experiment, �rené is the perfect canvas - arpeggiated blips and beeps echo primitive electronic explorations by the likes of francis bebey, and a huge subby kick drum take this track into space. alex boman sets to work on �jeanne, locking into his signature groovy, tribal approach to working the dancefloor. the swedish producer adds dubby elements, an irresistible percussion track and disruptive, random sounds to the thick, heady mix. dutch wunderkind satori tackles �jorge - twisting the original into a psychedelic groover that finds room for backwards vocals, marimba-like melodies, fat basslines and shuffling breakbeats.

time for a little recognition� pets welcome a true polish techno founding father to the fold: jacek sienkiewicz. dj since the early 90s, producer since the late 90s and one of the earliest artists to stamp their country down on the techno map, jacek was one of the first polish producers to be signed by the likes of trapez, cocoon and klang and laid down the foundations for the likes of pets founders catz n dogz several years later when they emerged as 3 channels. og status confirmed, hes remained just as consistent as he is influential. this single is proof: �su17 is a bubbling sine cauldron that starts with a simmer but builds to a boil with its ever-morphing, lava-like flow. expert drum momentum and sudden layers of instrumental help to create a fluid three-track-in-one experience that spellbinds you crowd for the entire eight minutes without realising. �mustang is a cascading synth odyssey that gently rises and falls like an escher looped staircase. gradually building in momentum with more of jaceks signature hypnosis flare, its not until the drums double up with an almost live-style visceral feel that you realise just how high jaceks taken you. it comes complete with a star-lit switch from berlins serial innovator tobias, where the synths are deftly refocused and a whole layer of orchestral delight are layered within.

iron curtis has felt like a polytone artist for quite a while now. he recently delivered a breathtaking remix for matthias vogt, and shared a split ep with the man himself, terrence dixon. hes also played several label nights, but indeed unwind is his first very own ep on polytone. the opening track riders is our floor filler here. a subsonic bass experience of the more intensive kind. its a pure groover, with a surprisingly long lasting breakdown that never lacks on intensity. cream on the a2 is a stellar ambient joint, with rhythmic elements and cosmic pads. on the flip we have the title track, unwind, with an unconventional basic groove, bleepy touches and trademark 707 drum machine sounds. pure and stunning deepness. the final track is a remix from force/emerge and leads unwind into techno territory. polytone stands for diversity, and again demonstrates the labels vision of versatility here.

villa Åbo in the alternative solo project of swedish musician and producer jan svensson, who has been making electronic music for the better part of 30 years as the artist behind such aliases as frak, studio ss and alvars orkestra. svensson also runs legendary swedish dance and experimental music label börft, the product of a mutual appreciation for severed heads and terse tapes. as villa Åbo he released two records in 1997 on börft and remained inactive for 17 years until the dutch label bio rhythm coaxed him into revisiting the project and released a double 12&#8243,, in 2014. jan has since followed with a steady stream of 12� singles for kontra-musik, noise in my head and radio lundberg.
�magnetic moves� is villa Åbo�s debut album, originally released in an limited edition of 65 hand-numbered cassettes by funeral fog in 2016.

for almost a decade, spains ramiro lopez has established himself as one his countrys leading proponents of techno, with strong releases across labels that include suara, intec, octopus recordings and bedrock. he first debuted on drumcode in 2015 with the rousing collaborative track clap your hands that ranked among one of the labels standout tracks for the year. with one drumcode release already under his belt in 2017 and a new label project odd recordings with fellow dc cohort arjun vagale recently launched, hes enjoying another strong year. his return to the label comes in the form of being alone , a powerful trio of cuts, all of which featured in adam beyers awakenings festival day 1 performance. the title track is a multi-layered weapon, propelled by a dizzying vocal, swirling synth effects and pin-sharp percussion that build toward a smooth classy finish. dark science is an effective stomper brought to life by a bell chime hookline and undulating synth melody ensuring its peak-time prowess. der raum rounds out the ep, highlighted by lopez s deft drum work, proceeded by a driving, euphoric climax.

slow town s 17th release from melbournes luis cl is an ode to analogue jams. the cran town ep shows what luis cl (one half of the zanzibar chanel duo and co-founder of ruff records) is know for: dirty but groovy drum arrangements, analogue synths and dreamy melodies and his kind of lo-fi and blurry mixdowns with definitely some detroit influences. the three tracks were recorded in one take during his studio sessions.

bliq continues its quest to mine the deepest shades of techno with this release from iakovos, who had previously appeared on the label as lowjac and in the formidable duo deemonlover. this is sharply focused mind music layered with subtle detail and rich textures perfectly honed for hazy hours at the far reaches of the party. -singers- melds hypnotic pads with gossamer-light threads of breakbeat and warm synth pulses, while -evil flower- pushes a tougher rhythmic agenda without losing the ethereal atmosphere. -adidas people- rides on a surging kick drum pattern, but leaves ample room for a distant drone, and then -hackney tower- heads into edgier territory with all manner of obtuse angles and unnerving sound effects pivoting around the insistent drum core of the track.

repress - keeping up the urgent pace set by the strength in numbers collection, thema now turns to a modern master of the jakbeat, d�marc cantu. hailing from ann arbor on the fringes of detroit, cantu has worked for more than a decade developing a sound that carries the torch from the box jam originators of techno and house music. his first appearances were alongside the mighty tadd mullinix (better known as james t. cotton) with their 2 am/fm project, before bringing traxx into the fold for the x2 venture. as a solo artist cantu has shored up on labels as highly regarded as crème organization, m>o>s, nation and desire, bringing a rich, full-bodied sound laden with powerful synth hooks, crafty drum programming and a live, jammed-out delivery that overflows with imagination. given his adventurous tendencies and punchy midwestern finish, cantu is a perfect fit on thema and the six tracks that make up this record show a great deal of the diversity the man is capable of, from dancefloor burners to atmospheric introspections

as ever, the next project on opilec music is one with a rich back story this time paying homage to a very specific disco scene of the early 80s: it finds label boss i-robots turning out one of his brilliant reconstructions, namely of a classic and cult track by one hit wonders ahzz. this track was first released on land of hits, a label run by peter brown (who also wrote -material girl- for madonna) and michael campbell and has now been officially licensed for this reissue by opilec music. the track, new york s movin was huge on the new york disco scene and was played by the likes of david mancuso at the loft, larry levan at the paradise garage and by nicky siano at studio 54, but continued to be a big hit with modern new york tastemakers kenny dope, dj spinna, danny krivit and his body & soul party crew well into the 90s, as well as with stars like motor city drum ensemble and bulljun. i-robots is a notorious producer and record collector with a vast understanding of the history of house and disco and his version combines an original vocal and instrumental version into something really magical. new york s movin (i-robots reconstruction take i) is a jangling, organic and lose limbed disco number with a funky drum line, soul in its bones and plenty of lovably rough percussion, clicks and drums. a retro and impassioned vocal line adds flair to the track at the midpoint just before that groove kicks once more. this version is featured on the new i-robots - reconstructions 2007-2017 10th year anniversary release. new york s movin (i-robots reconstruction take ii) is then just as emotive and outgoing but after the break has more of a focus on funk. this is a huge party starting track filled with feel good vibes and once again proves opilec music work on only the most special projects.

swiss producer honorée returns to rekids with maree haute ep this january, featuring two intelligently produced deep cuts with a remix from perlon�s margaret dygas. basel-based artist honorées inaugural release marée basse ep appeared on rekids earlier this year and demonstrated a musical understanding acquired from extensive dj experience within switzerland�s club scene. marée haute ep is honorée�s second outing on rekids and includes a remix from renowned minimal dj/producer and panorama bar regular margaret dygas. dorian delivers crisp drum grooves which underpin mesmerising chord progressions, haunting synthesizer motifs and spacey vocals before 208 provides infectious drum rhythms, glitched vocal cuts and hypnotic melodies which sit on top of a rumbling low-end. margaret dygas take on dorian offers a pulsating bass hook and sharp percussion which lays the foundation for dubbed-out synths and ethereal atmospheres to close the release.

following the release of synkro aka joe mcbride collection of his formative early works earlier this year, apollo recordings is proud to present a brand new ep that draws on the rich heritage of library music. despite having come up during the dubstep era mcbrides music has always resisted easy classification - hand in hand sees him shift his musical focus in a yet more cinematic direction. mcbride explains: the record was inspired and influenced by my love of electronic 80s uk library records like the chappell av series, bruton, soundstage & de wolfe music library. theres a lot of synth work that carries on from my album using my trusted juno-6 / sh101 / jx8p combo with the addition of drum samples via an old akai s2800 i purchased recently. most sounds ive made from scratch on hardware based on sounds used in the library records i mentioned above along with a few cheeky samples.- synkro s signature expansive atmospherics are still very much present, but now they have been burnished by soaring synth pads and pulsing drum tracks that call to mind the haunted melancholy of john carpenter or contemporary such as legowelt or andy stott. rhythmically hand in hand sees mcbride moving somewhat away from his usual off kilter programming inspired by 2-step and garage, embracing the steady pulse of 4:4 which turns out to be an effortless fit.

finally here we are with the fourth release on last drop records, signed by the london-based stavrogin. collectors takes a more subdued approach from his debut on australian label 3bs, focusing on ampdriven ambient textures and digital experimentation. sixty acres is a juddering mass of static textures and penetrative low end, forcing itself to a crumbled close. title track collectors is something like the afterglow. weary and destitute, the track stumbles through heatwave soaked atmospheres, fragmented voices stuttering like a malfunctioning android. are these actual miles? is perhaps the most direct, with its tremors of noise punctuated by a rhythmic pulse. this is a feature italian duo ichinen have capitalised on in their closing remix, reducing the track to a warbling, dead-eyed drum workout.
