while this album could have gone down a rather obvious route, with the remixers of the asphodells album *ruled by passion…*, andrew weatherall looked a little closer to home.
mainly revolving around the axis - the group of locally-based producers who can be spotted in and out of weatheralls shoreditch studio bunker - reworkings from the likes of phil kieran, scott fraser, hardway bros, justin robertson and ivan smagghe soon came to light.
this idea lead to a broad range of styles with something for everyone. we have stopped arguing in the office about which is the best track. they all are.

the nyc edit master kon (from kon & amir) has, after a bunch of hyped reworks on hands of time, bbe and on track delivered basic fingers a 12 inch with two killer disco reworks. we start with windy city >chicago<, a fierce disco edit that kon twisted just the right way! its playful and soulful disco at its very best. but the highlight of the release is possibly hidden on the flip. here we get a +10 min uplifting disco rework of sylvesters high energy hit >mighty real< which now sounds way fresher (and better) than the original if you ask us. yes, we are talkin real dance music on basic fingers ... a label with the goods!

a straight upfront pounding original from dutch producer mr jones is joined here on the remix by current drumcode favourite ben sims for a groovier, more funk filled workout. dublin based producer sunil sharpe rounds off the package with a seriously twisted heads down broken beat approach.
armory has been hammered all over by dave clarke for most of 2011 & mr jones is studio partner dave under the guise of unsubscribe. together they have already completed remixes for black asteroid & detrot grand pubahs with more to follow in 2012.

this obscure lost soundtrack for an even more obscure (and also lost and never finished) italia violenta cop movie was recently discovered when i bought the dusty reel tapes from a restaurant owner in fiumicino, a seaside town near rome. panter 777 aka il labirinto di roma violenta aka the maze of violence, he told me, was directed by gervasio giardano in 1981 and was considered too (politically) explicit by the movie production company who dropped the project after the first screening. the soundtrack, an explosion of wahwah funk riffs and juicy analog synthesizers, was composed by an obscure band called nacho patrol. the restaurant owner, who wishes to remain anonymous, was one of the band members and composed most of the tracks.
