2013 sees the release of norwegian disco viking rune linbaeks latest long player, on his drum island label. its his first album since the 2000 release (sondag) on paper recordings repap offshoot. last years single wonder feat kurt maloo on the label was a day one sell out here at all ears and marked a significant maturing of runes trademark sound. the influence of norway on the worlds forward thinking disco scene & beyond is more than evident, with countrymen like todd terje, prins thomas and hans peter lindstrom all leading the charge for years now. the creative cauldron of the infamous club in a public toilet skansen has much to answer for! krasava is a very much vocal led project, with a cast of featured vocalists which includes norwegian popstar anneli drecker alongside recent collaborator Øyvind blikstad. the album is steeped in norwegian folklore, visually and musically and the gentle lilt of the norse/balearic sound, sits comfortably alongside more cosmic flavours, rock and beautifully crafted pop.

scape one is producer of minimal electronic music from england. he rose to prominence with his electro work writing for labels like electrix, scsi-av and templedog. he has been writing music since the 1980s and uses mainly analog hardware in his productions. he also writes under his real name of kurt baggaley and also recently launched his tau sagittarii project into deep space with his experimental electronic scores.

wild rumpus is bitches brew head honcho colleen cosmo murphy (cosmodelica / classic album sundays) and former captain beefheart axeman and jeff buckley collaborator gary lucas. with wild rumpus they bring together seemingly contradictory sounds such as disco, rock, surf music, blues, dub and country while enlisting some extraordinary talent along the way. his latest effort is the most indulgent wild rumpus song yet and is somewhat of a cross between ashra temple and giorgio moroder clocking in at an epic 12 minutes. the remix is courtesy of mudd and has balearic classic written all over it. the single also includes an instrumental version of >tikkety-boo< which is a preview to the vocal version with lambchops kurt wagner which will be featured on the album.

tc turns his hand to evil 9s homage to sci-fi ghoulfest, they live. whilst maintaining the originals eerie atmosphere, tc has certainly infused the true drum and bass treatment. techy vocal hooks give way to a pulsing bassline, perfectly suited to a chase scene from a horror flick. on the flip side, tc gives freelands under control a good re-lick here: with a catchy guitar riff, stomping beats, soaring synths and some heavy bassline action, this is smashing stuff. featuring a live band and stunning vocals, courtesy of kurt baumann, the under control remix is an uplifting, euphoric and rock-infused rollercoaster of a ride.

this is a textured soundscape energized by drums that might sound inspired from the influences of the past but are clearly crafted with sounds pulled from the future. from here we arrive at prisms, an interlude that at first seems relaxed until you realize that with just a combination of arpeggiated synths, percussive elements and noises plucked from the ether you are smack in the middle of a piece of music that somehow wraps its emotion around a moving image that moves you with it.
