after a five-year hiatus, tartelet mainstay james braun returns with the ep tearjerker, announcing his debut album for 2018. jb (james braun) has been part of the label since its conception in 2007 and has contributed immensely to its development. over the years, his sound has continuously morphed – from cheeky tech house, to emotional detroit-inspired house escapades – always reflecting his originality and worthy musicianship. the tearjerker ep is a testament to jb s musical journey. rooted in classic u.s. house and techno, the ep delivers elaborate melodies not found in earlier productions. the tracks were all produced at the newly opened panalama studio in copenhagen, which jb runs alongside lasse walentin.

>corky< is the third ep from brand brauer frick on tartelet records and features a remix from tartelets own james braun. music has always been the defining core of tartelet records. this may seem like an obvious statement, but that was the very reason why it hit us like a ton of bricks when we receivedthe first demo from paul frick and his new band around two years ago you might say that the brandt brauer frick sound touched on a vibration that had been lurking in our musical subconscious. we ll resist the temptation to wax lengthy or lyrical about >corky< instead, we suggest you have a listen and let yourself be seduced by its panoramic echoes and pumping bass drum. hop aboard an odyssey that leads brandt brauer frick through the technoid city of detroit. its a fine ride indeed.

james braun is one of the new exciting producers out of denmark, with his strong productions he have earned great respect amongst djs like jesse rose and claude vonstroke. this is the second release from the danish producer on tartelet. the original is, like usually, a combination between solid house, great producing skills and james’ urge for experimenting with genre and sounds. with detroit-ish string theme and bass driven groove the original is fun, intriguing yet powerful. on the b-side tartelet are proud to present a remix by claude vonstroke, who wanted to do it after heavy support of brauns earlier material. the remix features many of the original elements but in updated and very danceable version. label-man tomas barfod shows us his darker sides on his remix. barfod takes symphonia late-night with string pad, dirty drums, spacy synths and deep-bass.

tweaked monosynth lines and rich polyphonic pads are featured on most tracks, and single note patterns of various timbre often reinforce the grooves. the title track on the a-side is as simple as effective and the name relates to some of the percussion parts which reminded them of a rodent digging a hole in the ground. first on the b-side is >if i was a man<, a slow-down groover with a dark and funky atmosphere, inspired by barbara alcindor s abstract spoken words, becomes more and more twisted towards the end of the track. last but not least, >zig zag<, which is named after the wobbly monosynth phrase which is being tweaked throughout the tune. all tracks speak of sweet, riding rhythms and nights full of action. pure quality

supported by 2000 and one, anja schneider, jesse rose, loco dice, shlomi aber, trickski, tobi neumann, to name a few.. once again theres a real nod to the old school here in a track inspired by arthur russell. rich, warm analogue pads and subtle fx flashes from the space echo build an enchanting groove. the intensity gradually develops with sounds slowly evolving, lending a deep hypnotic feeling to proceedings, until the chord progression opens out and you cant help but smile. a genuine end of night anthem and when dixon does his own edit you know your onto something special... version: double for your money, with an extra version of the original that doesnt open out into the full stabs and maintains a deeper groove. martin landsky remix: with a tight, tribal tom pattern and straight ahead groove martin landsky achieves a darker more spaced out feeling with his remix. he pushes the pads to a dubbed out climax without fully opening out the progression and this fully hits the spot. martin landsky has been making waves as a dj and producer since the mid-nineties and is one of the key producers at steve bugs excellent poker flat recordings and running his own intim records.. hes compiled many mix cds for labels such as poker flat, systematic and the partysan compilation series. his debut album was >in between< for pokerflat and since then hes remixed the great & good as well as producing several stunning releases and jetting about with his box of records
