new to the stay underground it pays gang, the eighth release on the label comes from none other than octo octa! you know him from his prolific run on 100% silk, and more recently for his ep on gerd jansons running back label at the top of the year. the man from brooklyn serves up 4 slices of that u.s. experimental house sound we love so much. on the a side, we have two versions of octo octa’s melancholic title track, requiem for the body. both as good as the other, it’s gonna be split for a lot of listeners on which is better. while both versions share certain elements, the second plays down the long keys of the first versions in favour of some stabby chord patterns. either way, proper 4 a.m. business!on the flip, we get a bit more ethereal with times two (loose version). simple yet effective, this one has a lot of atmosphere with those delayed vocal cuts over that late 80s bassline. closing out the record is when home. this one is a bit of a stomper at first until it brings in the lighter synth elements halfway through. someone, somewhere will have an epiphany listening to this track. if its you reading this, send in the results on the back of a postcard. all in all, another killer release that feels straight at home in the stay underground it pays catalogue

teddy douglas, dj spen and maurice fulton don their those guys alias and invite jean-luc ponty to jump head first into their sampler down in baltimore to show some love, love, love and the result is this amazing 12 inch originally released on basement boys records in 1996. a truly deep beauty of a track that utilises pontys violin from 1983s *computer incantations for world peace* to the absolute maximum in over ten minutes of building bliss, *love love love* is an under the radar classic, a true gem and a real treat for all djs to play. the alternate mixes and bonus beats are also great, dj spens balto doo doo mix for example, keeping it thoroughly b-more with the old school breakbeats and snatches of the original sample jumping through the mix from time to time make this an essential weapon in any record bag! this 12 inch has been re-mastered and re-pressed in conjunction with the basement boys.

first up we have some seriously funked up jazz disco business here, vocals have been stripped out apart from the line searching, fierce drums and percussion, baseline is just sublime with keys to die for singing out over the top, gorgeous guitar with soaring strings, extended to keep those feet happy on the dance floor.

roots for bloom bring in four new faces for the seventh release. we see label boss jamie trench deliver an edit and remix of daniel curpen - daddy was a thug, and david moran teams up with albert vogt for their track cut loose and then collabs with mark crumbs for tha bassment. the a side sees jamie bring a rolling dub edit to daniels original and then takes things a little darker for the a2 remix. david morans cut loose shows off the vocal talents of albert vogt which grooves along seductively, then tha bassment as expected brings things a little harder and more for those after hour spots.

nice price deal !!! here comes a record that shouldnt have been released in the first place. who first started to circulate the cd-r with the blue inscription waiting for kim / we get high is totally unknown. the more known though, is who has been playing these two tracks, the one subtly uplifting, the other cranky dark, over the last few months. its still an unsolved riddle who is responsible for those two very divergent (but obviously coming from a single source productions. the fact that now these two tracks are coming out as a white label doesnt shed any more light on the affair either. but will please the dj and club world nonetheless.
