following their first dive into the archives of earguard studio which led to bm02, basic moves have tapped the source again and selected two raw,previously unreleased productions from 1996. for dj deg,this was a transitional period: a moment to look back on the genesis of circadian rhythms and a time to look forward to both personal and artistic evolution. on the a-side of bm06 lies a track where house and techno come together to shape a mysterious, hypnotic atmosphere. �sinh session� is coloured with the warmth and passion that deg absorbed from his musical influences of the time and it reflects an era of great emotional importance: for him,each track holds a story.

grego after all�s underthesea is back with an ep by the polish artist eltron, who has been a big supporter of the label�s vision since the beginning, headlining its inaugural party and contributing to its podcast series. �le volte� is his first release for the label, including three original cuts and a remix by the canadian producer basic soul unit. eltron is probably best known for his quirky, playful, driving house sound with roots in disco, as illustrated in his productions here. the narrative of �le volte� starts with �la prima�, full of anticipation and discovery as we set out to explore a new oceanic territory. once the clock strikes two, we find ourselves in a sub-aquatic discotheque with �un�altra�, dancing to the rhythm of classic chords revisited with a contemporary touch. meanwhile, �l�ultima� represents a voyeuristic peek into the world of seductive mermen. finally, when basic soul unit gets his hands on �la prima�, he transforms the track with complex drum patterns and whirlwind pads with a sense of empowerment to conquer the mood of any dancefloor.

spanish techno artist aiken is back on his own timeline label with another ep that offers up four more of his evocative takes on the genre. it comes after previous outings on non series and semantica and is his label�s first release since 2016. �basic principles� is up first and mesmerises with a pulsing lead synth line that forever changes shape. pummelling drums power along below and add up to a disorientating and hypnotic overall effect. �theory� is deeper and more rubbery, with manic synths and pads all racing along and pilling on the pressure while �midline� is right out fo the jeff mills playbook with its molten sci-fi synths journeying through outer space. clean, crips drums are upright and taught and get you on your toes, then �restriction� closes things out in superb minimalist fashion. this ep covers plenty of ground, and all of it is utterly compelling.

the 20/20 vision offshoot basic vision continues to mine the folklore of the legendary back to basics with a selection of carefully selected deep cuts from the history of house music. chris cuevas hip hop already sounded strong when masters at work chunked it up in dub form, and then rob mello perfected the jam when he performed an extended edit on the breakbeat fuelled jam. eddie fowlkes where will i be? is a classic slice of 90s vocal house, while free energy is an uptempo deep house jam for those feel good peak time moments. black science orchestra sound utterly timeless on the soaring new jersey deep, laying the soul on thick and keeping things fresh and funky throughout.

last summer during an evening spent with my friend dj topha, we came upon the everlasting subject of old versus new. i m finding so much great music right now, and not just digging back in time but exploring our own timeline geographically too, he said, the level of production these days is rising fast. you have to check out these snippets from a new label based in casablanca. not long after, in an interesting twist of fate, driss bennis and i began to exchange music: i shared his soundcloud for the first casa voyager release, and he sent me a promo copy which i played out a lot. it seemed only logical to ask him for music for basic moves. later that summer we met in paris for a convivial back to back at dawidu s shop, te iubesc records and sapology. it was as simple as that, and in a few weeks basic moves 04 was ready. night train and overseas blew me away by their quality - the tracks are retro-esque yet fresh, and stem from a loose approach to electro. their arrangements are very smart, not everything is revealed the first time round. the more you listen, the more you understand that the power of the tracks lies in the details. together with ailsa s artwork, stefan s cut and chris mixes the release fell so smoothly into place. i have come to realise how important it is for the scene to release recently produced music as well as treasures from the past. you can t build a community by only playing old records. it s about a combination, about finding gems that glide together. old and new. and for that, i think both these dj booth tracks really fit the bill.

as one of the first dutch musicians to establish a vital connection between detroit and amsterdam, orlando voorn has long been recognized as one of the netherland�s most original and inventive producers in the world of electronic dance music. voorn began djing at the tender age of 12 and went on to win the dutch dmc dj championships in 1986 with his own characteristic blend of hiphop and electro. towards the end of the eighties he acquired his first sequencer, packed away his turntables and turned his hand to producing.

jaunt records is celebrating 10 years of active service in fine style with this series of various artist 12inches. the air installment features four beat scientists presenting diverse musings on deep diving techno, kicking off with the hypnotic, cyclical meandering rivers by kaelan. jc meanwhile spices things up with the breakbeat roughness of the jaunt track before basic soul unit lays the smack down with the bruising broken techno of escape velocity. blackhall & bookless finish the ep off with the big room dub-out of spirit, a churning beast of a techno track that still maintains the meditative qualities of the other tracks.

breaking his silence after twenty years, sebastian snoeck a.k.a sebastian s. will be the second member of belgian collective �bwp experiments� to release on the basic moves imprint. he has handed over two previously unpublished tracks made under the moniker caustic 14. after listening to �personal space invader� in 1997, carl craig asked sebastian s. to produce new material for his own label, planet e. �message in a box� and �rising star� were therefore made as a response to this request. however, due to a political transatlantic rift the tracks never saw the light of day and have since been stored on dat tapes, hidden away from the general public�s ears. if i had to describe sebastian�s output, i�d say it is most importantly energetic, positive, and groovy. it bears the mark of a certain nostalgia, shying away from the blind celebration of both futurism and experimentation in order to reach intemporality. this attempt to exist outside of time gives his productions a certain character and in my opinion his music has come to embody something i like to call �space opera techno�. sebastian s has succeeded where many before him have failed: by avoiding copycat tactics and simplified approaches to production he managed to create a singular identity. the tracks are recognisable after the first few seconds � and that�s what makes his work so unique!

it took me a couple of years get invited to christophe de groot�s (aka circadian rhythms) homebase, and a couple more years to dive into his sonic archive. but time tells and basic moves 02 is what came out. the two tracks were recorded at earguard studio in brussels around 1996, at a moment when his interest was moving away from club music towards other golden musical horizons. �frequency� is a macro tech-house track in mid tempo.
i�m super happy i could archive it on wax because we almost fucked up the master dat tape by blowing up the player during a marathon listening session at his place. we had to open the device, unroll the tape across his house (full of records) and fold it back into the mini dat cassette. after a few hours and twenty metres of tape, the problem was solved and the tracks archived: �a dose of authenticity at a time of post-counter-cultural stagnation�. �house speaker call� originated in proto-techno forms. christophe never sees techno as a type of music but as a process. as a producer, collector and deejay he always dives deep into authentic forms of electronic music. deg�s antic personality shines out in the middle of the harsh beat-driven electro/techno track like a hopeful melody passing by on its elliptic orbit. tune your cells into his vibrations and get ready for these two timeless club tracks.

julien sabre and konstress blind box label is branching out with a new sublabel entitled blind box basic, which seeks to explore a more minimalistic approach to the dance floor. in order to get things rolling, they re turning to chris carrier and his monsieur georget alias for three tracks of on-point, rolling house grooves. carrier s experience in handling heads down tracks is evident throughout, from the insistent surge of geogette to the hazy tones of balade sur le chemien de fer, while mais ou se cache donc le zebu heads straight to freaked out minimal territory.

this is a vinyl reissue of the first release of stephen bishop�s basic house moniker, originally release as a tape in 2012. through his music, and his label opal tapes, bishop has been one of the most significant definers of leftfield dance music over the past years. his background in diy punk and noise is easily identified in his approach to both sound production, general aesthetics, and overall attitude.
�i�m not a heaven man� is characterized by a poetic and tape hissed melancholy, sensibly combined with a lo-fi experimental character rendering it a deeply personal take on contemporary electronic music. slow pulsations of sequenced drones combined with noise with strong emphasis on atmosphere make �i�m not a heaven man� an exquisitve piece of ambient sound design.

following two staggering contributions from the analogue roland orchestra and 2030 that illustrated to boundless sonic possibilities for the label, deep�a & biri return to their tel aviv-based black crow label with a pair of powerful, emotive techno cuts in the style for which the duo long since become admired. for a long time one of those admirers has been detroit techno founding father derrick may, who has been on a mission to push the new 12inches a-side, basic cycle, into instant classic territory through his unwavering commitment to making the track a highlight of his sets. may has been far from alone, with the track being one that d&b have been asked about, if not outright begged for, over the past year or so. it finally becomes available to techno fans worldwide in january 2017, backed by the pummelling rhythms of overdrum, which itself has the potential to turn heads and drop jaws all by itself.
