if you secretly believe that all of the best dance music has an undercurrent of melancholy then you are in for a treat. 0.5, the debut ep from the fascination movement, doesn?t skimp on either the dancefloor rhythms or the windswept yes-we-remember-new pop romanticism. the fascination movement is looking forwards, not backwards: just because this is music that adapts the same vocabulary created by bands like new order or early orchestral manoeuvres in the dark doesn?t change the fact that from the first arpeggios of ?just pretend? you feel the shock of the new. of course, you may be too busy humming along to the choruses to notice how slyly the band makes a classic sound fresh again...

sometime chicken lips collaborator and full time disco don stevie kotey keeps the momentum going on his longstanding and ever consistent imprint by going slightly off piste with the latest bearfunk 12inch. for my friends is the work of lusty zanzibar aka alex cordiner, cabaret voltaire fan and former holistic artist, and we re struggling to describe it effectively to be honest. its a simple concoction of fluttery synth riffs and fat bottom end, but has the sort of quirky melody that you just dont expect to hear in a noo disco record, or a house record for that matter. it is, however totally infectious, and destined to be one of bearfunks biggest of the year we reckon. solid mixes come from kotey and lusty himself, and all are dominated by the riff, as will your brain be after listening to this package a few times. beginning of the night, end of the night, all night, all aboard the wonky disco train to zanzibar

a joint effort between prins thomas and word and sound- the idea behind the label is to put out good music and not limiting ourselves to stick with a specific genre, instead opting to stay fresh and individual with each release going in every direction we feel. were gonna be highlighting new talent, re-releasing some lesser known nuggets and certainlly give you some dancefloor killers along the way to. from japanese techno to california kraut. just the way we like it...for int005 we bring you a slow house chugger in the form of break the barriers, done by malaysian born and berlin based frankie flowerz. i have to say, its not by choice i decided to put this track out but a calling... upon hearing this track in frankies myspace player i knew i had to put this out over 12 inches in full scope... i spent some time trying to come up with the perfect match for remix duties and i think weve succeeded with the choice of man of the moment(and soon to be legendary)john daly of galway who turns in a slightly faster, darker and a bit dubbier affair.

skylax records, the company focused on realeasing original obscure dance classic and everythings that sounds fine to their ears! for our 11th release , we decided to bring you guys a brand new track from the italo master of all time: the fantastic beppe loda under the name italowerk. honestly, we were not expecting anything, as he did so much for electronic music already for the past 20 years, resident at the legendary typhoon club in italy (brescia), playing a huge amount of electronic underground tracks that are praised today by clubbers & vinyl fetishists, he created also what we called today afro cosmic. we could sum up his new project just by its name italowerk = kraftwerk meets underground italo. the first track is called sognando that we could translate by dreaming. indeed, this is a very powerfull track, that sounds almost like an italo lost gem (circa 1982) but with an incredible modern feeling, full of crazy electro synths, arpeggios and a terrible kick: an athem!

MADE TO PLAY VS. WEARHOUSE MUSIC
12 Inch
17.11.08
made to play brings the noise with the sounds of wearhouse music and head honcho lee mortimer. lee mortimers exciting, sleazy, demented take on house has been kicking the sh*t out of dance floors and festivals the world over. this e.p is not for the faint hearted but is for those who like to rock a big crowd in a ballistic way. when jimi hendrix played not just one but both sides of it at woodstock in the 70s the place went off its tits and when he reverted back to playing the guitar it just couldnt compare and he never quite got over that. lee mortimer is currently reveling in mass support from the likes of switch, claude vonstroke, diplo and kriss akabusi who apparently likes to play these tracks as a post love ritual, naked and chanting awooga! round the camp fire he has in his bedroom. if you want to embellish the feeling of either hendrix or akabusi in the primes of their existences then get stuck into this release and youll feel like a combination of the two peaking on acid.
UNDER A FIG TREE EP
12 Inch
17.11.08
after several remixes and longtime waiting our artist h.o.s.h. releases his next own ep. and he is back with a real banger! >the valve< sounds connected to steppenwolf, but feels more like a coninue: more modern, more pushing and more groove. like hell! a balkan- flute plays sometimes, but very harmonic to the track. heebie-jeebie! >super sick bowl< is a fantastic groove, too, but a bit more housy like classic recordings. awesome, never boring housebeat spiced with two cool and sick breaks. this loop could run forever. single words work perfect with the beat and provide a stimulating sexappeal. under a fig tree starts more technoid with the sound, but has still a groovy house for 3 minutes til the break - and out of this break a new sound is evolving. on the one this track continues with a warm bass hook, leaving the technoid sounds behind. what a twist! just beautyfull! thanx hosh

franco cinelli, one of the most gifted new producers coming out of argentina, presents here six uncompromisingly quirky club bombs. his previous releases on milnor modern and telegraph have just warmed you up to his sound. now dive in to >profundo amor< and get familiar with these intricately programmed club stompers. you can call it minimal, but when these tracks go ripping through a big pa, thats the last word that will be on your mind. with the opening track >flog<, you get a taste of the freaky after-hours grit that alphahouse records is becoming known for. >m26< is a robotic hair-raiser for the new generation. think minus on steroids. >twisted machine< features a stompy groove and some snare work to drive the dancefloor. >vertientes< is a great dj-tool with a low-slung bassline and dancing synths. >c3d< bounces along with a razor bassline and some tricky transitions. and >project 64< finishes off the lp with a synth line that falls out of the ceiling and straight onto the dancefloor. truly inspiring stuff here, from franco. no filler tracks. all of these are a-sides

this is quite simply one of the most glorious records you will hear this year. it would be easy to lazily reference it against classic period rephlex/planet mu stuff (oops, i just did!), and indeed it appears to share some of the same heritage (even going so far as to feature a remix of rephlex artist global goon in its tracklisting) - but chris leary aka ochre is obviously a man on his own mission. gorgeously lush, but at the same time super-funky…as electronic as kraftwerk starring in a remake of tron, yet somehow as pastoral and organic as edward elgar…much like his label-mate ed chamberlain, leary manages that tricky task of being supremely technical in his programming and arrangements, but without losing the heart and soul of the music amidst all the studio trickery. you know that old chestnut often said when referring to vintage or classic music, >they dont make them like that any more<? well they do…and here it is! simply fantastic.

it is a task that detroit native aaron-carl has done consistently since 1996. as one of detroits most in-demand producers, his signature sound crosses genres -- from soulful, gospel-infused house, to the dirtiest ghettotech anthems. aaron-carl is hailed as a powerhouse in detroits electronic music scene. with a discography to die for, he has remixed some of the motor citys biggest names – underground resistance, scan 7, aux 88 & kelli hand, as well as international artists like chicago house legend dajae, icelandic techno stars gus gus, and african jazz great manu dibango, to name a few. as a vocalist, aaron-carl showcases a broad range. from the haunting chill of >crucified< and >sky< to the seductive whispers of >down< and >21 positions<, to soul-stirring shouts of >alright< and >my house< ac prides himself in not just making records, but classics. his >let me tell you something about house music< acapella (appropriately titled >the word<) is one of todays most sampled house vocals, while >down< is still a staple in the clubs – for more than a decade after its release.

EDEN NOW - RICARDO VILLALOBOS REMIX
12 Inch
03.11.08
slap - one of the most obscure and forward thinking acts from the early 80s meets the spearhead of today’s electronic music, ricardo villalobos. the originals are disturbingly brilliant electronic excursions, while villalobos’ jazz-fueled rework is one of the deepest mixes he has ever done. vivid drums are built around a driving bassline, aiming the track right at the floor. not to mention the rough claps! imagine miles davis’ “bitches brew” joined by throbbing gristle, playing “minimal techno” live. earlier this year macro unearthed namlook’s long lost “subharmonic atoms” featuring outstanding pépé bradock remixes. this continuation of the “prototypes” series is none less of a dream team. slap’s experimentalism just seems to be the right inspiration for ricardo villalobos, who takes it to a level of weirdness only he can achieve while retaining such danceability. essential!
