dan farserelli releases the runnings thoughts ep, his first solo outing on the fuse london imprint. running thoughts kicks things off with a sub-aquatic joy ride of deep and twisted beats, shards of static sound puncturing through to lend the track an otherworldly feel. another day toughens things up with a booming kick and more focused dance-floor sensibility whilst the eps vinyl only track lost inside injects a sense of melancholia with its eerie pad imbuing the groove with a trippy edge

club cuts is the new release by gummihz. it features two dancefloor heavy tracks spanning from acid to dub house/ techno. on side a, aacid patch, is a serious dancefloor weapon with a characteristic killer tb 303 bassline and airy jazz piano licks, produced back in 2010. 8am groove, on the flip, is a dub cut that, in typical gummihz finese, rolls effortlesly between detroit house and techno. an excellent record cut for the dancefloor!

when we say live in the future it becomes a repudiation of living in the present, and then instantly we are in a state of denial denial has a hypnotic effect on the mind. gutsy 909 claps work with percussion and futurist vocal snippets that warp and chop, whilst haunting chords wrap themselves and sublimate over the body. denial wants you to live in the future, denying the present moment. yet the music speaks in the present. to close your eyes, find yourself lose yourself in the moment and groove.

the second wrltd vinyl is from the collaboration between wunderblock and michael chernev a.k.a arcuation. the ep starts with the amazing remix from darren roberts a.k.a. deepbass. it presents his unique dark hypnotic sound combined with the effective driven techno groove. samuele costa a.k.a. scam. delivers the second remix, which is also dark and atmospheric with some propulsive jacking dubbed out drums. on the b-side, there are 2 remixes from wunderblock: mikroplexmix, with its mesmerising swirling atmosphere and punching rhythm, and more relaxing, deep and spaced-out remix with co-production of vladimir kochenov a.k.a. acrob, also the member of wunderblock crew.

this four track ep kicks off with cladistic mutation , a sparse underwater soundtrack with only the gentlest suggestion of rhythm, lots of reverb and tiny little details that float by like micro-bacterial debris. m2 is a more beat driven dub track but is still way below the surface: the kicks are smooth and hunched over, the chords are smeared out in all directions and the atmosphere is lo-fi and grainy. on the flip, grain gets even more energetic, with firm techno kick drums setting a stern tempo as all sorts of aqueous details and spacious effec ts peppe r the groove. there s a heavenly nature to the pads and an industrial texture to the percussion that makes this a cerebral but physical affair from start to finish. lastly, neurowaves closes things down in blissfully dubbed out and horizontal fashion, with large sweeping pads, tweaked filters and evocative little details all placing you firmly under water.

m a n i k returns to ovum with in walks bourbon! a long-standing veteran of josh winks ovum imprint, the in walks bourbon ep marks maniks fifth offering to the label and maintains the high quality weve come to expect from an artist who is comfortably at the top of his game right now. the ep consists of a trio of raw, chunky, house-influenced cuts which show m a n i k diving back in to the underground sounds of his new york roots with a taste of chicago. the a side track wink kd lures the listener in with its catchy groove and hypnotic vocal sample.

in 1996 paul birken released the classic and now rare as hens teeth surfin superior double 12inch on woody mcbrides communique label. this was to be a revered and respected record that influenced many and is still talked about and played today. now, some 19 years later he follows it up with part 2. nobody works as hard at getting human sounding chattering from their machines as birken and here he treats us to 8 massive cuts of grinding techno that are as humorous as they are danceable.

this release marks a new beginning for berkovi, better known for his tougher music man, force inc, djax and harthouse releases over recent years. after haunting the bside of one release too many, a reboot into a more beloved and emotional techno template is obviously reaping dividends. according to the man himself, this is no trend following phenomenon: i ve always produced deeper music, more often than not even years ago was always pushed to b sides of eps or remixes but now it s the main thing i want to do, techno with soul. after releasing a lot of more melodic material on labels such as eevonext and an album for trapez a few years ago i want to return to solely concentrating on this style for my music and live sets

the kestrel (turmfalke) will rise in spring 2015, starting the new label by matthias springer with focus on physical media. the philosophy behind is to invite friends to this special cross-over concept. every artist presents an original in combination with remixing eachother. in the end 4 tracks on one release, no special genre is preset, everything can happen. frank hellmond is the special guest on the first turmfalke release, bringing in his unique deephouse flavour that features some pretty nice vocals from snowflake, while matthias is turning it into a combination of dub and acid ... but just have a listen.

fantastic remastered reissue of a masterpiece of the golden era of nyc deep house, the incredible love is a mystery ep by tropical moon (aka legendary producers nelson paradise roman & blue jean), their one and only release under that moniker. originally released back in 1990 every track here is a killer - the a side features the underground smash love is a mystery with its beautiful emotive pianos, classic lush strings and gorgeous vocal followed by the relentless drum groove of its alright. on the flip we get another club classic, the tribal bouncer jungle house as well as the darker after-party vibe of data bank with its phat b-line, deep chords and superb sleazy vocal. pure class!

with iyewaye, the first solo-ep after the release of his fifth album i am ok last year, oliver koletzki shows himself in a new, but not altogether unfamiliar light: since his breakthrough in 2005 with der mückenschwarm koletzki hasnt sounded this hard. gone is the pop-angle, replaced by a dark sound-aesthetic and raw energy. but even here, in the techno realm, oliver koletzki demonstrates his inimitable sense for melody: thus, the gloomy and driving framework of iyewaye is lit up by a crystal-clear synth-sequence. similarly, ipuza, which hypnotizes by way of reduction and repetition, is funky in its core thanks to a rolling tribal groove. functional, but with heart and soul.

repress 2015 , up first is a rework from hamburgs dj koze, a man with no need for introduction. koze lays into the albums dub track >kawaba<, featuring the voice of japans singer tomomi ukumori. deeply pitched vocals and kozes very own groove give this remix a very special appeal. on the flip, spanish dj and producer affkt, resident of valencias famous barraca club, delivers a peak time tech-house remix of >macleta< which is already causing some storms amongst selected dj sets. more >studio 10< remixes will be released across the next months, watch out!

following gary becks hard-hitting remix of dj rush >she is fine< on bek014, he returns with an ep of solely his own productions. >rascal< brings forward two of his biggest tracks in recent times. the title track, >rascal< returns to garys more familiar sound with swelling pads andsynths clad in fading loops and textures. the track varies in intensity but maintains the groove, as it balances a peak time feel with an almost reflective ambiance. >video siren< is stripped and straight-up techno. it avoids over-complication by keeping the elements to an absolute minimum, highlighting his ability to create atmosphere, tension and drive, using a less is more attitude.

starting in 1990 recording for sheffield label ozone records under the name of panic with a release called voices of energy, which was then licensed to buzz in belgium, buzz 001, buzz then went on to release classics by carl craig and derrick may. he set up his own label in the same year solid groove records. the label had 30 vinyl releases over thirteen years and tracks were licensed by derrick may, terry francis, pete tong, adam x, and carl cox.as well as this he ran another four other label s, textures, dark, dot, and cheap knob gags.

as we move into a new year, again start the cogs of labels and artists around the world, this is certainly the case for disc over music as they bring us their first release of 2015. high off the back of exquisite releases in 2014 from luca lozano & mr. ho and nicson, disc over’s first installment of 2015 comes from label head tim green - a three track ep bursting with two classic tg productions and grooves which is then given another dimension with a remix from the talented german born producer borrowed identity. the ep kicks off with the aptly named ‘scar’ - a track which when heard, truly makes it mark. it sets the tone for the rest of the ep with it’s prominent bassline and haunting howls whilst dreamlike keys bounce and float above. track two, ‘we thought’ is taken down a gear but keeps all of the groove built from ‘scar’. it begins with a simple trademark tg bassline and is allied with light and free singular keys. the listener is then joined by vocals which along with the previous elements take you on a real trip. borrowed identity speeds things up right away with his remix of ‘we thought’. the track is morphed into a dancefloor groove with the comforting vocals darkened, cut and reworked on top of an unpredictable and fluctuating bassline. managing to keep the identity of tim’s original the track becomes something completely different and certainly makes you feel you want to take the trip
