new years deal - , fresh from guesting on the debut powell lp sport (xl recordings), and having released on labels such as the tapeworm, entracte, and halcyon veil, dale cornish now presents clap - four rhythmic experiments that explore the mesmeric tones of the digital clap using the ever-popular tr909 clap pre-set. sharing similarities in intention with n.m.os as strict as possible approach, pieces subtly evolve and mutate around the clap to generate motion, tension and action. oolovka takes an unashamedly joyous look at the clap, where melodic repetition whirls and whirls until it takes on a form of mesmerising minimalism – perhaps taking its cues from a modern take on steve reichs ‘music for 18 musicians’ as a backdrop for the clap to playfully roll over and mutate into a sound which is both refreshingly light hearted yet steeped in rhythmic experimentation. cxema takes us a into a tenser, more claustrophobic space where a heads down pulse keeps the body locked until the fog is occasionally broken and the tension momentarily cleared via delayed claps and familiar sonar tones. this vibe continues into isolate with cornish upping the anxiety by using the clap as a foreboding menace. coming across like an inspired soundtrack to a military performance piece the concern appears to revolve around strict precision and strict movement and how the clap can be used to enforce and heighten this functional display. before encore winds things down by stripping things back to the bare minimum for movement – a single effected clap gradually layers and layers itself to create pleasingly odd high tension atmospherics solely through a meticulous process of delicate rhythm and repetition.

back in the days at the west-saxon highlands there was a missile, which marked the starting point. when credit 00 saw the legendary rocket rise on tetris’ final screen, it was the first time he became aware of electronic music at all. since then it actually hasn’t changed that much. he keeps pushing that buttons that belong to the impressive pool of music machines towered up next to his bed. after moving to dresden in 2000 to study fine arts, his passion for synthesizers and drum machines got nurtured through visits of dresden’s club-canalisation. he quickly made himself a name as a dj, who is just doing his own thing and got popular for that reason. as a part of the idealfun-crew he started hosting parties always in the twilight zone between legal and illegal. this led to “robo dance”, dresden’s only and (also for some other reasons) best electro club night featuring guests like dmx krew, luke eargoogle or imatran voima. the track credit made with randy barracuda of imatran voima has probably been created some time after the show. apparently, randy was not in good shape anymore and so “lebensraum” unmistakably bears credit’s hallmarks. for his own music he’s inspired by cannibal movies, number theory and birds. still, his music is not easy to pigeonhole. after all, he loves synth wave, electro, afro, kraut, kosmische, disco, italo, miami bass and other proto stuff – a lot of machine music.

to wrap up 2016, true romance unleashes one more disco stunner. this time the fabulous three tracks 12 comes from the classically trained yet funky to the bone: phil gerus. the russian producer has been a rising force of the modern disco movement with releases on futureboogie, sonar kollektiv, thugboat edits to name a few. the make time ep, his first offering on true romance, confirms gerus is here to stay. the a side, she is wearing her black boots again, is meant to played very loud and very late in a dark smoke-filled room. its a raw thumper with a thick post-disco bass line, robotic italo synth, dreamy chopped up vocals all layered with catchy mysterious chords. the flipside starts with the irresistible make time, a groovy number with loopy funk guitars, soulful vocals and infectious keys that will stick to you like glue. for the grande finale, gerus serves us detective from kamakura: a gritty electronic funk track with banging percussions and delirious moans that will keep you awake until the break of dawn.

catch recordings is one of the uks most interesting underground labels and to mark its 10th release it is back with another essential ep featuring four fresh tracks from swedish artist, random island records owner, inter gritty, who has previously released on labels like rise and deep moves. not to mention his own random islands works. since the birth of random island in 2012 he has carved out a singular sonic niche for himself with various solo eps and albums and also his partnership with nihad tule as ntta11.

these songs were made over the past 2 and a half years by uchi: luna (january 2016), was named after a talking cat. it s kind of a sad story. you will find some synth sounds, three different kick drums, and a couple hi-hats. it s kind of moody. you can take it as it is, or not. pride is poison (july 2014) ironically, it s titled after experiencing dosages of unhealthy relationships, though it might be the one people like the most. it s sad-ish, noisy, bouncie, and bassie? that about sums it up. inc (february 2016) is titled after the international noise conference, where it was recorded. actually it s a 3 part spliced zoom room recording of a 25min long improvisation, made in a punk bar. the argument here holds, is it really worth it to make perfect music? where is the concept of -live- in techno anyways? it doesn t matter. it s just a semi-distorted recording of a moment that meant nothing to almost no one, and yet it lives.

mannequin records is really proud to present the 12 inch reissue of no more - suicide commando, one of the most influential singles that ever reach the underground surface in the past 35 years. originally released in 1981 as a 7 inch single, and subsequently reprinted in 1984 as a 12 inch single with a different tracklist on the b-side, the single was in the following years spreading internationally regardless of genres and scenes.

intense tempos, railing percussion, muscle charge. the music of repro radiates like an electric skyline across the inner eye, as the striking beat sends you spiralling down through the cold fabric of modern life. this is techno in it’s most urgent, and unapologetic form.

claudio mate & francesco mazzocco directly from dub-ito headquarter introduce for the third chapter of the label an artist that doesn’t need too many introductions... violet poison... during these last years violet’s music has been one of the most interesting alternative proposal also giving a great influence over ebm, industrial, techno movement with his dark/esoteric imprint. claudio and violet having a longtime music friendship, they both decided that it was the right time to do something unique. for this - voices from the hell - previously released exclusively on tape/cassette by hospital productions, got the placet for a new wax life directly by hospital main man dominick fernow.

cosi002 further documents an emerging, ex-germanic theory of perth dance music, typified by tracks built on techno’s stern compositional logic, but poly-functional and cross-disciplinary, wearing the stripes given to them by this most nonpareil of electronic music ecosystems.
the ep has both dance floor heft and mood-focused flexes. “the hunt” is a solarised, laser-sharpened and hi-hat driven garage/big room hybrid. 8-minute “m is for audio” is a workhorse techno slow burner with all the red-eyed melancholy of greats like “acid eiffel” and “deep burnt”, acid burnt and stinging at the mid-range. conversely, “rube” abounds with percussive warmth and ear-dancing patterns, as does “freshness and convenience”, a bastard union of dusty breaks and a hard funk bassline. the ep ends with ambient cyber walkabout “freetown”, peripatetic, matte-toned and pulsing with vital signs.

in keeping with the labels 303 based theme, things kick off with blue flame, which sees dj overdose delve into serious 4x4 territory with angelic like synth stabs, jackin’ beats and gnarly acid lines. bare bonus bounce is a stripped back version of blue flame that retains the vocal samples, funk and jacking 4x4 beats. the flip side kicks off with acid lovely, a hefty 303 laden electro work out that certainly lives up to its name. the ep finishes off with work is work which retains the vocal samples of blue flame laid out over a raw and gritty electro beat.
