its backed up by 3 solid remixes, firstly by the one and only robert hood. mark of course delivered the latest release, stunned (97 mix) / decay on hood s m-plant label and now hood returns the favour by adding his signature touches to frontline. beard man s previous release was the circuit boost ep by space djz. now one half of the duo, ben long collaborates once again with oliver way, otherwise known as mr o from detroit grand pubahs for a deeper take on the original.

its a rare moment in the life of hoods m-plant when he hands over to another producer, but no surprise that he should pick mark broom for the next release, seeing as hes previously been entrusted to provide edits of hoods tracks for mpm19.

the peer pressure ep from the under-rated mark forshaw finds scenery records once again highlighting the rich strain of local production talent in the liverpool area. involved in the merseyside scene since the 90s, forshaw has released on labels like mathematics, tabernacle and apartment and is also a member of phantom planet outlaws with john heckle and binny. if you ve checked forshaw s prior output you will be happy with peer pressure as soon as the grubby, jacked up house of the title track hits its groove, with his four other cuts heading down a similarly unpredictable path. kudos to scenery for seeking out swedish producer daniel andreasson to remix the title track too! this is another no nonsense ep from scenery that is lovably rugged and unpredictably creative

for the past few years, young denmark vessey has been releasing a series of albums, both as a leader of carious groups and as a sideman in various others, which definitely mark him as one of the most exciting young players in music. vessey’s last album prior to this (2013’s cult classic) employed scud one for the rhythm section. vessey, in his own playing suggest that he may be forging a link between the new mainstream and prior innovations. it is to vessey’s credit that this album achieves a surprising degree of unity. there is little of the haphazard feeling that too often arrends blowing sessions by pick-up bands. it would be easier to mistake this for a group which works regularly. part of that is simply because vessey is a part of the new mainstream, the part that is seeking beyond the accepted common language to find ways of extending it. the rest is because of vessey’s unusual talent.

giant records is the new label from grant dell, a man that has been at the forefront of the tech-house scene for over 15 years and has amassed a truly enviable back catalogue of releases. giant s first release is from mark allister, whose skill for crafting a proper old school tech-house groove on -not going back- is more than matched by his talent for laying down vocals. complementing this original, jay tripwire turns in a self-styled marimba machine redux, whilst label head grant dell chooses to focus on allister s vocal for a remix that possesses keys that wouldn t sound out of place on a kraftwerk track. supported by mr g, doc martin, eddie richards, john digweed, richie hawtin

title track joyride kicks things off with a straight up 909 beat, complete with scifi sweeps and classic wood block percussion, quickly working its way into an very subtle groove with every element working effectively to keep it fully funk laden. sideways completes the a side of the release and gets going right from the beginning. pumping percussion takes hold and hits the ground running before a perfectly weighted synth hook lashes over the top with henning playing with the synths lfo to creative effect. dust takes things down a notch as swirling pads drape themselves over a serious 909 beat. henning lets this one loop out, letting the subtle variations in the synths do the work as the 909 holds the beat solid and reminiscent of early berlin/detroit dub techno crossovers. mars attacks closes of the ep and does so in particularly fine fashion. a more broken beat affair this time from henning and he really works his machines into a sonic warfare of bass tones and tweaked out synths that sear through the crashing percussion workout.

the eccentrics parties started some three years ago by will and mark, have been a monthly staple of the eclectic nightlife scene in peckham since its inception. the party has hosted many great guests over its three years, such as andi hanley, piers softrocks, toby tobias, phil mison, frank tope, bill brewster and many more. this 12inch is the culmination of mark and will saving their hard earned gig money so they can present the sound of eccentrics to a wider audience. these edits were put together along with another local hero sanky (a regular guest) whom has kindly provided the system edit and the artwork for the jacket.

mark henning makes a welcome return to soma records with the sublime sunday slide. a multi faceted release that definitely has something for everyone! title track sunday slide is fantastic, deep affair. a simplistic house beat is slowly added to by well-crafted synth work that opens and flows perfectly throughout the track. on the flip, youre digging into me, is a catchy house number with a baseline that is sure to stick in your head!
