mitte der neunziger setzte sich terry lee brown jr. alias norman feller an eine symbiose aus techno und house, zwei damals sich eher gegeneinander ausspielende genres. heute ist tech-house dank deutscher labels wie pokerflat, perlon oder plastic city allgegenwärtig und hat selbst dem minimal-hype der letzten jahre standgehalten. mit letzterem label ist terry lee brown jr. eng verbunden. ein großer teil seiner langen diskografie wurde dort veröffentlicht. drei alben, unzählige dj-gigs, unzählige remixe, eine eigene dj-mix-cd-serie und immer wieder auch ausflüge in trance-, downbeat- oder breakbeat-gefilde – es ist eine erfolggeschichte. sein viertes album „karambolage“ ist das erste seit sechs jahren. gewohnt sicher und feingliedrig geht mr. brown ans werk. da sitzt jeder beat, da werden saubere melodien eingewoben und die balance zwischen musikalität und funktionalität ausgelotet. zum album erschien ebenfalls eine limitierte 7“ mit einem „karambolage-edit“, einem stück, das die fixpunkte des albums in einem ganzen verschmilzt. doch keine bange, es handelt sich nicht um einen liebloses medley. die edit-version ist ein ganzer track, der den status quo von terry lee brown jr. beleuchtet.

a tripped-out batch of hard jamming tracks from ex-mutante rita lee – recorded with assistance from all the members of the group at the time, but in a mode that’s quite different overall! lee is clearly the star of the show here – singing all lyrics with a much fiercer vocal approach than on her earlier solo album – pushing things hard to keep up with the jamming keyboards of arnaldo baptista and guitar of sergio dias – both of whom are working with the energy that would show up in the mutantes styles in the years after lee departed. one of the most compelling aspects of the record is the structure of the tunes – less conventionally rockish overall than the direction os mutantes were moving towards – and still with that strong dramatic flair that lee always provided when in the group. titles include -vamos tratar da saude-, -amor branco e preto-, -superficie do planeta-, -teimoisia-, -tapupukitipa-, -beija me amor-, and -frique como-.

the sound of studio one can be identified by the great singers that it cultivated along the many great songs that these singers released. but as studio 1 s dominance was slowly pulled away by the up and coming new breed of producers many of the artists would inevitably end up working for these new camps and so the songs and singers found a new audience. the reggae sound of the studio 1 would make a great combination and the man to pull this was together bunny lee.

finally four guys from the deepest south of germany decided to share some of their shit on vinyl and hodenhouse is the result of this idea. as the name of the label suggests those four guys never takin things and themselves too seriously. it s a pure love thang. and love is limited. like our first ep, hodenhouse001, limited to 250 pcs, vinyl only. perhaps in the future there will be some more releases, perhaps not. we don t know jet and to us it isn t as much important at the moment. the ep includes tracks from mad lee, kaam and nly1p. be prepared. it will be released later this year. yo.

lee burton is the next artist on raum musik and this is his first single for our label. lee is hailing from greece and we were quite happy to receive some demo tracks of him, as he caught our attention already a while ago. his productions are more house related, but always with a nice, modern twist. his powerful sound and also his very well structured sound design could easily be described as his signature and it s definitely worth keeping an eye on him.

the days are longer and lighter already and that can only mean one thing. summer is on its way… lee burridge and lost desert return with sunshine days in mind on their ‘loopyness’ ep. an apt description indeed for the title track. its infectious groove rolls forward, making you want to get up and wiggle your hips, this track has funk. a live guitar lifts the track halfway through, as stuttered vocals and string-like synth lines take you away to other worlds. over on the other side of the vinyl (or track two for digital fans) is ‘botanic’. another summer daze, groovy, light and airy with a slinky fat bassline and a warm breakdown. music to close your eyes and drift away to, this track has been a firm favourite on all day i dream dance floors since last summer. the ep comes to a close with ‘12cc’ featuring junior. a dubbier groove underpins the whole affair while glass-like melodies and laid back synths sway back and forth. it’s a patient groover that rewards those who take the ride.

for over five years, all day i dream has been where deep and emotive meet house music. propelled by a community of forward thinking artists drawn around the scion of master curator and sunset/sunrise set specialist, lee burridge. all day i dream formally welcomes lost desert to the label with the release of lingala, a two-track collaborative effort with burridge himself, that also features junior on vocals. lost desert was picked out of obscurity after burridge discovered his music while trekking in a remote area of a long lost land. a fast forged friendship inevitably lead to the studio, and lingala’s the enrapturing sophomore result. the duo’s first project together debuted on lee’s night time imprint, get weird, earlier this year to widespread support. lingala, is a beautifully composed ten-minute sonic journey. built around a mystical lead vocal sung by newcomer junior in his native linagles the raw emotion slowly builds in intensity over propulsive basslines and deep melodic grooves . gorje hewek & izhevski’s interpretation of lingala is a markedly different affair. focussing on musical layers rather than the vocal the duo’s signature spacey atmospheres and minimal rhythmic percussion add extra strings creating uplifting moments that contrast the original’s mood.

ritornell’s richard eigner & abby lee tee originally teamed up to provide the score for a collaboration with filmmaker andreea sasaran and illustrator katja seifert entitled »melting sphere«. sharing a passion for the combination of filigree electronics with playful timbres of diverse acoustic instruments and odd utensils, the cooperation of the two producers was a logical choice.
»melting sphere« merges subsonic bass, kalimba rhythms, accordion sounds and toy bells, all framed by eavesdropping recordings of abby lee tee’s cat, bathroom squeaks for five minutes of organic downbeat bliss.
»tired dancers« on the flipside offers a melancholy tale of seduction relayed from the shadows, with field recordings of nightly city noise, a reversed music box melody, hypnotic chords and meticulous percussion. delicate, celestial cello (by lukas lauermann) and contrabass flute emerge as counterpoint to this rhythmic hypnosis.

tippa lee’s new album cultural ambassador will be released on stones throw, may 20, 2016. available now is the dub version of the album, dub them with reality, mixed by producer tom chasteen (dub club, natural numbers), who has reconfigured the tracks live on the mixing board with echo, reverb and various arcane electronics. the lp covers, in two variations, were screen printed in gold and black by hit & run, with artwork by ellen g. tippa lee was born and raised in kingston, jamaica. he started performing on his fathers sound system as a child, standing up on a beer bottle box to reach the mic. he made his first recordings at king tubby’s studio at the age of 12. eventually he teamed up with rappa robert and as a duo had a number of hits including “no trouble we”, an anthemic statement against police harassment, which was a number one jamaican hit in 1988 and is still played often on jamaican radio. in more recent years he has been based in the us, performing live and releasing his own underground cds.
