enemy returns with another remix package including efforts from some of our favorite producers at the moment. this collective includes the crafty and credible sound of vril, the legendary steve bicknell, and house musics latest tastemakers mr. tophat and art alfie. getting the remix treatment this time around is dustin zahns 2014 comeback release, >new day rising<. monsieur tophat and his esteemed colleague art alfie surprised us by turning in a very dark and stompy techno rendition of >lost in rapture<. it goes without saying that this one is definitely geared towards the time of the night when things get a little weird. vril follows up with an excellent take on >new day rising< by keeping the tension for nearly three minutes before the reese-like bassline drops in and causes the track to evolve into a groove that demands instant attention. steve bicknell rounds out the package with the peak-time hammer! its relentless, heady, and undoubtedly bicknell! this one has >rave< written all over it.

all this work together creates a very hypnotic but strong vibe getting completed by some subtle deep synths stabs and some wicked fxs on the base elements, which rounds up the whole vibe of the remix perfectly. two greatly executed remixes that haves a subtle groove swift but also keep the soul from the original track intact, as any great remixes should.

following last years meditative mirage ep and the stunning * beat 13* on lovers rock no. 6, earthen sea returns to lr with his debut lp ink. his heaviest and most ambitious work to date, ink is a work of hypnotic, monastic beauty. over the last ten years, earthen sea, aka jacob long, has been developing a sound world all his own, built on a foundation of vaporous grey-black drones and pulsing kick drums. an impressionistic dream-scape of american life, ink journeys between the eerily vacant “entrance” to the feverish “stateless” and the shimmering perfection of “all men know the truth.” swaths of violent, glacial noise collide with lost voices transmitted through the ether, framed between moments of transcendent clarity. following an extended three song suite, closing track * blues in black ink* rides a gently falling piano melody into a finale that is as infused with political rage as it is with private melancholy. with ink, earthen sea arrives fully formed, an artist in utter command of his craft.

tunnel is a minimal techno and dark techno ep inspired by the thought of getting into people s minds simulating the feeling of driving into a tunnel or during a dream, a three tracks ep focused on groove and percussive sounds with effects and pitch variations.

japanese producer takuya matsumoto first surfaced back in 2001 on a split release with compatriot kouji nagahashi (seek out the rubicon) but its more recently hes been getting the attention his classy house productions deserve.

invisible inc s third release departs in yet another direction as they dig through the archives of 80s new wave/psych funksters the poncho brothers. apparently these three previously unreleased killer beats were recorded between 1987 and 1990 and then forgotten about, only for a cassette to find its way into label boss gk machine s hands during some drunken tequila-fueled nights on holiday in mexico in 2012. fully remastered from the original tapes these no wave, disco funk dubs are firmly rocketed into the 21st century with ny s zoovox duo s stripped down stellar remix of amantes latinos. getting plays from daniele cosmic baldelli, jan schulte, dj kaos, kirsty p. + more.

now four releases in, razor-n-tape reserve continues to deliver the deepness with this ep from the netherlands junktion. although a relative upstart on the scene, junktion has been getting some serious heads nodding lately with releases on sleazy beats and outplay, and the hot & bothered ep continues to define his dusty and organic sound. from the summery ease of the title track, to the fresh take on the oft-sampled i m wishin to the discofied chugger fling cleaning followed by the slow-burning visions of you, this ep is a beautiful listen from beginning to end. and the kids are gonna dig it too.

german native sis shot into the limelight in 2008 with releases on cecille and ricardo villalobos label * sei es drum*, which up until that point had only showcased ricardos own productions. no stranger to the crosstown rebels catalogue, he delivered the first ever rebellion release and then later the * round pen ep* on crosstown rebels in the summer of 2012 and the more recent * slider* on rebellion. other productions have appeared on esteemed labels such as cocoon, 8bit, connaisseur, get physical, with a more recent album on cocolino.

after waiting 3 long years, and finally getting the multi track session to do a b side, im proud to present the star blazers cover version of the masterpiece danger zone which was originally done my midnight express. many should be familiar with detroit producer recloose, while back in new zealand he assembled a band who called them selves star blazers (an ode to the 70s legendary japanimation series and a big hit on bostons tv38.. indeed recloose is from massachusetts) and they recorded a few cover tunes.upon hearing this i knew it was special. while most modern covers miss the mark, purely emulating and sounding like a cheap imitation, leaving me wanting to just play the original. they flip the tempo, swing and vibe, straight up owning this and making it their own.

in 1996 paul birken released the classic and now rare as hens teeth surfin superior double 12inch on woody mcbrides communique label. this was to be a revered and respected record that influenced many and is still talked about and played today. now, some 19 years later he follows it up with part 2. nobody works as hard at getting human sounding chattering from their machines as birken and here he treats us to 8 massive cuts of grinding techno that are as humorous as they are danceable.

for their third release, jaunt> records returns to the guiding hand of its founders, blackhall & bookless. the label has made a well documented great start to life - and jr003 continues in a similarly enchanting vein. getting us underway on the differences ep is straightener. a techno bomb with lashings of low end bass frequencies, it saunters about with an uncompromising swagger thatll tear up the dancefloor.

here we have their third release, available in very limited back cat quantities it s walter gibbons getting down in abba s under-floor heated studio on part 1 with part 2, slowing things a tad and amping up the bass elements into a slinky topside mover, while part 3 slips us fully into cruise control, as we drop anchor and gaze up at the stars, just before sly and robbie pop aboard for some early morning cocktails

entitled narita, the release is inspired by, and dedicated to, japan, and the tracks are a collage of all the experiences and emotions the producer has picked up there whilst on his travels. this release was also due to be the 44th on the label (which has now made it up to number 67) and so has clearly been cooking for a long time. once again it proves the man behind it to be focused on stripped back and hypnotic grooves, shadowy textures and subliminal synths that are abstract and truly heady. up first, sleepless is a spooky and hypnotic techno roller with icy pads and rubber drums that roll on like a haunted midnight train burrowning deep into your brain. ebisu is even more reserved, with just a light, skipping kick and tinkling, glassy keys suspending you in a wide open space of abstract atmospheric soun d. on th e flip side, mountain splitter is more urgent and immediate, with nervy pads this time racing alongside woodpecker precision and supple drums. it s heady stuff that really distracts you from the world before finally trance is a wash of grainy white noise and groaning synths that soundtrack a word deep down in the depths of the ocean. svreca is a master of getting deep inside both body and brain and does so in different but captivating ways with all four of these cuts.

the most interesting, advanced electronic musicians create unique, hermetic soundworlds that seem to emanate from unknown realms. see/hear aphex twin, autechre, farmers manual, iannis xenakis, and bernard parmegiani, among a handful of others. if chloe harris isnt quite in that echelon yet, she is quickly approaching it with dose.(this album was originally issued on very ltd.-ed. cassette in 2012 and is now getting a vinyl release, mainly due to the urging of italian techno magus donato dozzy.
