limited edition remastered reissue of an obsure italian balearic disco song produced and arranged by victorio pezzolla the same man behind the project -asso - don t stop- that was a big hit during early 80s in the n.y.c. underground clubs, regularly played by larry levan at paradise garage and by david mancuso at loft. the plus on this limited edition reissue is that the production is directly handled by the former producer to obtain a more accurate sound compared from the first release.

dj harrison is richmond va-based producer and multi-instrumentalist devonne harris. the son of a radio dj who introduced him to the world of record collecting, harris grew up with music, progressing from violin, to high school drum-line, to the jazz studies program at virginia commonwealth university. he also continued working with other instruments and developed an interest in sampling. his development as a producer at first, without a computer or sampler came first learning to replay samples on the drums, piano, bass or guitar. dj harrison finds himself inspired by local musicians in the richmond scene thats as diverse and nonexclusive as they come. among rappers, producers, punks and bluegrass bands, he falls within reach of an expansive pool of musicians to collaborate with. he lives and works in jellowstone, a house turned recording compound occupied by his band mates in butcher brown, a garage punk jazz funk group. hazymoods, dj harrison’s stones throw debut, was recorded there completely on tape, where the living room functions as a communal recording studio

rich la bonte is a musician, writer and editor from upstate new york born in 1946. at age 11 he figured out how to record a piano backwards with his first tape deck and discovered monk, mingus and art blakey. in 1965 rich moved to ithaca, bought an electric guitar and started singing in garage rock band the huns. after the band dissolved, he moved to nyc and played bass and sang in the original cast production of the musical godspell. in the late 70s la bonte moved to hollywood with shari famous, released a a few 7” singles as dada2, and started flatdisk records, a vinyl subsidiary of dave gibson s moxie record company.

ultra-rare d.i.y minimal / synth-pop / industrial / darkwave album from 1986! . kozmonaut was the personal project of a young & talented canadian musician called michael gutierrez, who moved to san francisco in the early 80s. influenced by kraftwerk and german culture / electronic music, michael recorded the “flieg” album all by himself at his garage studio, using the pseudonym of “hans schiller”.

it s not clear who is behind the instinct label, but with this first release the mysterious producer displays an impressive grasp of dark garage and minimal house. the shuffling funk of -the way- is an instant hit, marrying the razor sharp beats with melancholic synths and a killer bass wobble. -pressure- deals in more abstract tones, but there s no let up in the nagging insistence of those crisp hi hats. -cocktail- meanwhile takes a more uptempo approach with its bongo-embellished beat and subtle melodic fragments woven through the mix, and then -instinct- knocks the ball out of the park with an utterly deadly 2-step workout for those who love ghost records and all that ace, moody pre-dubstep busines

originally released in 1978 on greg charmichaels red greg records, ‘lady bug’ and -love bug- are probably bumblebee unlimited s most recognizable hits. now repressed on the get on down label ... with an undeniable groove, signature keys and arrangements by patrick adams in addition to the comically sped-up vocals, lady bug is considered by many to be one of the most important underground tracks of the disco era. as with the original -lady bug- 12- single, the john morales and frank trimarco -sunshine sound- mix takes the a-side of the rca release. a true disco version in every sense of the word, this almost 10 minute mix brings out the latin percussions to the front making it a true dance floor classic and establishing john morales as one of the best remixers in the industry. the b-side belongs to one of new york city s hottest djs at the time: larry levan. despite being a very early remix by the legendary paradise garage dj, the talent was evident and his understanding of a club mix in wide display. it’s no wonder larry levan would go to become one of the most respected and revered remixers of his generation.

much could be said about german house royalty boris dlugosch. from his teen dj years under the wings of fronts legendary klaus stockhausen in hamburg to his own marvelous tenure there that is pretty much synonymous with the explosion of acid house in its proto- and post-incarnations. one could examine his role as a herald of us garage and jersey house or as a remixer of underground gone pop records. but we will leave that and other stories for the front page soon. the traveller ep is the result of dlugosch and cassara meeting at a mutual friend of theirs, getting excited about their shared love for classic synths (see sh-101 for the traveller bass line) and exploiting the latter’s extensive synth collection. what you get: classic disco, french house, electro-funk, dj sound effects (that tractor plowed the front every night) and most of all fun, fun and a little bit of extra fun. chin-stroking impossible.…

albuquerque s plastik people continues to be the leading bastion for hard swinging garage house in the deep south. this time label boss marc cotterell has linked up with dominic balchin as tuff vibes to bring the classically informed heat to the people who just cant get enough of that warm, soulful sound. leave me cold does the absolute opposite of its title thanks to the oodles of piano, organ and more melodic flexing besides. jazzy 99 is a more accurate guide with its sassy sax licks and vibing chords, and then rhythm of the vibe pushes the tempo up for a purely dancefloor minded workout.
