after releases from terriers and new jackson, major problems welcomes the compassion crew, who returns with another session of impeccably sourced cut-and-paste house music. cc’s ‘masters of the gentlemanly art’ is proto-house/nu-beat-ish bruiser, while his ‘panic chicago’ version gets lost in the groove. leisure connection walk the night with a memorable 10-minute-plus psych/dub/house remix. mastered and cut at calyx, this is a vinyl-only release. artwork from simon landrein. support from hunee, new jackson, beats in space, serge, marcel hesse
thatmanmonkz is certainly enjoying a fine run of form ! heavy duty releases for delusions of grandeur & kolour ltd, alongside a steadily building and essential catalogue on his own shadleaf music label for their fifth outing the label has opted for a split single, with french house royalty ludovic llorca aka art of tones handling a side duties ‘so worried’ marries a spoken word vocal with an irrsesistible clipped organ led and bumpin’ house workout that sounds a lot like fellow frenchman st germain did way back when. monkz handles the flip with the kind of rough and ready sample-house jam the label has championed ‘got to get to’ strings together a handful of live instrumentation & melodies in classic collage style, while the dub strips down and houses up the ingredients for a clonked out finale.
roots go deep are a label devoted to releasing music by south african artists. since 2012 they ve released seven eps by names like d.nel, makhen gigga and label owners ofuren and fred buddah. now that they ve established themselves in the digital realm of music, roots go deep arrive on the physical medium with a split ep of deep and dubby sounds from ofuren and fred buddah. the two provide two collaborative tracks in -floral synergy- - a woozy house jam in line with mcde s raw cuts - and -do deejays dream of dancing sheep-, a sublime mix of subaqueous chords, chilled out drums and touch of acid. buddah just about goes ambient on his solo track -ragan- while ofuren keeps it heads down and uber-dub on -ripples through reflection-. roots go deep indeed.

techno-legends oliver bondzio and ramon zenker aka hardfloor are back in style this season! with their beloved machine music that is free from seasonal flares, and artificial flavours. hardfloor are still true to the core of their 303 platine circuit boards. electronic music production is nothing less than a bare necessity to these pioneers of the acid groove. hailed and namedropped by many a young producer’s today, revamped or sampled... acid lines emerge anew in quite a few tracks. but when hardfloor put acid in their tank - it is sooo much more and way bigger than a marketable gimmick or the fuel to an otherwise exchangeable battery of loops. it is the motor, the lifeline and the heartbeat to a whole organism offering a whole world of expression and – first and foremost - emotions!

in 2011 when mad mats and tooli went to sonar festival in barcelona they met ludovic llorca aka art of tones outside a club. little did they know back then that two years later on they would release a 12 inch together. the same thing ep opens with the title track and kicks pretty damn sweet with its strong vocal, the guitar, bass and rhodes jamming on top of a tight groove, there is also a dub version included on the b-side. last but not least, the great sgatmi is a jazzy and bumpy house take with lots of samples perfectly balanced. all in all, classic art of tones material and the work of a producer firing on all cylinders.

uneasy me signals the first artist to feature original music on art of vengeance. australias electronic export, christian vance, delivers a title track with both tension and dancefloor romance. pursuing a restless path, the rhythm and melody come together like an intimate rendezvous caught in the headlights late at night.

definition of d is a little tribute to detroit, the city that influenced and later embraced my music in the mid/late 90s. this ep is an attemt to make music that is closer to the sound that i started out making but still different from the old detroit releases. high tech soul and is hopefully the key here. available on vinyl
