gunnar haslam is a long-time regular at the mister. by day he s a scholar of particle physics and signal processing, and by night he makes very heady music, some of which has made its way onto our very first ten-inch release. it was printed on heavy vinyl and comes in an antique green paper sleeve.

the ep is called spotlight diktat in reference to the feeling some djs have when they are on tour. a kind of dj melancholia generated by airplanes, dehumanized hotels, waiting hours in boring terminals, basically traveling alone. i made these tracks out of this mood. at first they sounds like the typical groovy dance tracks, but when the melody comes out, you immediately feel there is something wrong now the track is on and you still dance (of course its made for that) but you could almost cry to it too. so this is what happens when a dj or a producer has to do their job, but they aren t really in the mood for it. when the party comes, they just forget everything and make the show happen regardless. they have to bear the spotlight diktat and keep on entertaining people regardless of what they have in mind.

1st outstanding release for archivio fonograficos sub label borderline editions! remastered official reissue of the original version dated 1983 on best records. suicidal by amin peck is one of the most intense italo disco songs ever. for almost 10 minutes, the listener experiences some very light male vocals tossed on top of some extremely deep synthesizer rhythm s concurring with all sorts of experimental noises and sounds.

the efforts of label chief max_mand attic musics own fabrizio lapiana as so far proven to be a potent combination. sharing wax space for the last two releases on m_rec ldts discreet new 10 inch vinyl series, the pair have so far turned in a stirring duplet of some of the finest, fully-formed pieces of modern techno music. now, for the third installment, max_m steps aside to let a brand new outfit take the helm. the mysterious and so far unreleased overall severitynestles comfortably into the a-side with another swollen, undulating melodic arrangement, true to form of what we have seen from the series so far. then on the b-side, fabrizio lapiana offers more of his dark and groovy techno, toned in what has become a signature splash of vintage british-redolent electronica.

brilliant new balearic house ep from copenhagens music for dreams label. the opening track came to life when two danish djs - mads dalholt and zimino - made their own remixed version of al jawalas *go east* for playing out. mfd label head kenneth bager heard it, loved it, tested it out on his coma club dancefloor and it drove the crowd nuts with people literally screaming for more rewinds of this pumping horn-blasting oriental in-your-face party track. if you are a fan of acid arab and 80s leo mas/afredo style amnesia dancefloor madness then this one is for you. on side b we have the debut track from mads dalholt and partner landers - *zengo* is a sexy uplifting house groover with spacey keyboards, afro vocal hooks and a lively sax. followed by a second landers/dalholt cut, the slower more balearic *aelba* is built around a simple melodic guitar riff with some mellow xylophone bringing a warm sunshine feel. great debut for the young danes.
