last year saw the mysterious garage shelter make their debut appearance on skylax, and little is still known about them! all we know is they are back with some freshness on the skylax classic sublabel. first up is bring back love, a track that will sink its claws in with that infectious vocal sample hook. sticking with the old school sample vibe is the lonely heart dub of attempt, it’s a bit more mellow but still has plenty of groove in it. friend of the garage shelter, dj la foudre, appears over on the b side with it’s alright (signal st mix). still on that catchy sample tip, it features one of the grooviest bassline and funky guitar pairings i’ve heard in a long time. next up, perception 66 is a smooth house affair from yet another friend, asa no hikari. rounding out the package is garage shelter’s own you (still), a dreamy pad-driven track that may indeed be the pick of the release. while we don’t know much about garage shelter, we can’t help but look forward to what they come out with next!

analogue attic recording s fifth release is a live recording from melbourne talent sleep d, recorded under gumtrees at melbourne s iconic fairfield amphitheatre. here we see the ambient side of maryos syawish, corey kikos and guitarist joe karakatsanis. the 40 minute album features beautiful, slowly unfurling pieces that caters to the label s gentle aesthetic.

frankfurt based producer, dj and music lover martin heimann presents his debut single salto on carry on 008. remaining faithful to its name, the small label puts out another piece of limited wax every once in a long while. enrooted in the soundscapes of 80s proto house the original version of salto is a thriving piece of octave liberation. consistent changes between harmonics break up the repetitive structure, while fm pads and the 303 are performing a little duet. the release is ennobled by two proper remixes from moon b (peoples potential unlimited) and jex opolis (good timin). while moon b keeps it bubblin’ with some extra analogue funk bounce and subtle italo dance floor energy, the b-side is jexi-fied with some embellishment to the cords, change in the bassline and a nice 808 snap. on top mr. opolis adds some mysterious but cheesy vocals samples that match perfect with the moody 80s orchestral stabs.

scienceofuse is a new electronic music label from ljubljana, slovenia. its purpose is to transmit futuristic frequencies by using the science of creation to transcend percieved limitations. connecting the advances in our culture and technology with the important lessons of visionaries that came before us. the label s first release, -responsible design- by veteran dj and expert knob-twiddler known as electronic badminton king (e.b.king for short) is an acid-tinged affair with a darkish early noughties electro vibe on the a-side, while the flip delivers an abrasive technoid banger coupled with a deeper floating acid cut.

in 2006, tim arndt released the first near the parenthesis album “go out and see”. arndt had intended to follow up that release with a more beatless ambient album, where percussion was left to the side and composition took center stage. a shelved idea that we now get the benefit of a full ten years later. this new album helical is the realization of arndt s stripped down ambient concept. helical features arndt’s characteristic experimental modem classical instrumentation and compositional style, but slows things down and stretches them out. the focus on the organic is clear, but moments of ethereal breath weave in and out and prevent the album from becoming too self aware. helical, as a loose reference to the geometric structure of our very dna and it contains themes that are driven by a recent discovery of arndt’s past and ancestry. the release seamlessly stitches all of these concepts together and marks an unique release and new direction for arndt’s near the parenthesis.

powerdance is a collective formed by luke solomon and nick maurer formed as a reaction to bland soul less dance music that seems to infiltrating nightclubs the world over. luke and nicks comradely stems back many many years to their association with the classic music company a label formed by derrick carter and luke. nick maurer was one half of the then prolific greens keepers. this ep for optimo trax features the wigged epically funkoid gem mysterious space plane who doesn t like songs about space? on the other side is the modern hyper jacking more fire. alongside these are a reprise of mysterious space plane and a bonus beats of more fire for those djs who like to, are able to get creative with their mixing

the new release from help presents works from various help-releated artists. another release from the arhus-imprint that doesn’t directly state club-proof, but still, this one wouldn t mind having a spin or two by your local dance pusher.the opening track is by central, a ripe house tune with both melodies and good-vibes - probably the closest this young man has come to making an anthem. next up is the four piece group maizena with an ambiguous rhythmical ambient-house jam from the area of denmark with the least rainfall. on the b-side you’ll find a raw and to the point recording of dj sports and c.k joining ph 1 in his throwback techno-studio in the suburbs of arhus. next up is the long awaited debut from manmade deejay, who has been cooking a floating rhythm jam for this 5 course meal of modern danish cuisine. last but not least amsterdam-based kaap joined central on a fine day at rubber studios to create this dreamy and galloping ride. all in all this genuine piece of wax is filled with local devotion and love from the help-crew. thanks for the support!

the three tracks travel in many different directions. speaking directly to all the dreamers, the result is a surprising cross-over in which synthesized european music gets injected by imaginary tropical visions. the record is opening with the inner mind percussive ambient « chekema », an animistic incantation that will please all those who see parties as modern ritual gatherings. the jazzy wave of « get enough » cracks open the b-side. it’s a foggy street jam in which the cold cr-68 rhythm balances perfectly with the warm organ chords of the crumar. closing things off is the spectral reggae song “love so high”, a desperate cry from a polar explorer stranded on an iceberg drifting towards the carribean. heartbreaking.

the second release in this series starts with the heavily supressed and hypnotic energy of efdemin’s spiegelkerker remix on side a. creating a dreamlike atmosphere, the track is carried by a slowly developing beat that keeps you totally engaged as it floats along. as a contrast, psyk’s remix of miscellanous pt.7 on b1, with its classic 909 drum appeal and engrossed pad harmonies, creates a very deep classical vibe worthy of a black dog reference. the final track, a remastered version of morgenstern’s return of the living deaf presents its pleasantly over-funked snare programming and build-ups that forge “true techno” eclecticism and dance floor functionality into one mighty laser sword of a track. limited to 300 copies

tresor records proudly presents the second chapter in mønic’s musical journey on the label. head of osiris music, mønic is an accomplished producer whose style can be defined as raw yet exceptionally refined, allowing for a certain industrial inspiration to ooze from his exquisite sound design. ‘four sides of truth’ opens a conversation between pristenely defined low frequencies and an infinity of fleeting, chirping synth layers. this discussion will continue throughout the record, taking additional drums into the exchange and swirling into ‘point to the sun’ in full panning effect. on the other side, lower frequencies undoubtedly take over and win the argument in ‘self doubt is worthless’. uk-based kamikaze space programme contributes with a revisited version of ‘morse’, initially released on the parsons hill ep. preserving the abrasive textures of the original, ksp dramatically raises the track’s thrilling factor.

it’s time for another prruk sampler. prruk104 combines four of the names that have circulating through the label s discography in recent times. for the a side we have self reflektion label owner stranger with a peak time warehouse anthem called “thinner” which uses heavy syncopated percussion sounds which dominate the whole track. for the a2, hans boufffmyhre comes up with a distorted bit of techno action that will definitely turn some heads. london based jamie haus opens up the b side with a psychotic anthem whilst ear to ground head honcho gareth wild closes down with a more emotional rave cut.

it s argentinian time for melisma - on the a-side federico molinari teams up tender vocals and piano with a nice acid touch in a slightly hypnotic way - -joan s field- has a classic chicago sound setup blended with the an hypnotic and repetitive element that makes some dances longer ones.

transhumanism ep is a combination of ethereal and angular sounds, but with many points of reference concatenated between them. starting from the side a, if methodical ear has as its base, a rhythm with an incipit house, but with edgy sounds always in progress, shadow manipulation of mind looks at an utopian techno, together a dense and obsessive hypnotic groove. instead, in the b-side, synapsi sonora-, presents a classical structure, but with kick and snare somewhat in the foreground, with low, evolving, sick and stifling pads in their concept of low-fi timbal. state of induced hibernation is an alien traces in his gait metal percussion and sharp synth, make a song to say the least harsh and unwilling to be defined and confined to specific genres, as in the complex is all this project for ambiwa records.

holiday 80s sophomore whiskey disco ep exhibits the upward trajectory of the mysterious polish duo. their first ep showcased slower, smoother sounds, whereas these four songs showcase the grittier side of polish music, one slightly less fashionable, until now. each song is dance-floor-proven to turn out. from the sexy psychedelia of truncheon man and male jeziora to the left-ward jazz house of juhas zmarl and fm cool of letnia milosc. many wd buyers thought their first ep to be finest record on the label, get mokotuff before it s gone too.

the label’s first reference, hooded001, is a two tracks ep called “los dinosaurios” by personal mythologies. the two cuts have been recorded from live improvs by the artist. the a side, homonym to the title of the ep is a slow, rugged and abrasive techno jam that passes the 11 minutes mark. the second extract, “cuando los dinosaurios dominan la tierra” is an ambient odissey of fourteen minutes that features a static melody around which different melodic and rhythmic elements are developed.

the second release is a split between the label owners lc12 and the rising star autre.
on the first side rumore and orphidal are opening the release with a 115 bpm proto-ambient track filled with liquid grooves and tribal elements while in the second cut they are showing us their faster and deep-acid side with conversations.
on the other surface autre is killing it with filter sessions 329, a mental techno trip did while experimenting with his new filter bank, an 808 and a juno 106. the b2 is an elegant track with a fred p-esque touch, suitable for every kind of dance floor.

we reckon it s time for a full junktion ep on outplay! you can say wide awake is an appropriate title after a wonderful 2015 with a string of ep s on sleazy beats, razor-n-tape and rose records. this four tracker explores the sound he s been developing over the years and even touches a newer side. the ep opens with the title track wide awake and embodies the signature junktion sound with a summery balearic touch. what we are is a faster synth laden affair coupled with his usual sample action. sunny side up is what the title says it is, a sunny disco track driven by a groovy bassline and a funky rhythm guitar. the ep closes down with don t mess up for a more contemplative jazzy track with some smooth sampling and afro touches.

tominori hosoya is the project of japanese track-maker tomi chair and for the past years he s been on a steadfast journey in the land of soulful house. his most recent offering on mixxrecords entitled life goes on ep includes four tracks, three originals and one brothers vibe remix. starting off with over the sadness, the first piece is a laid back groove with a solid bass backbone animated by classic house hi-hats. strategy meeting gets peppered with wobbly synths, giving the cut a seemly acid vibe against a steady percussive background. with 32-33 (one decision), tominori delves into his tribal side, keeping the focus on exotic drum patterns. the dreamy synth melody provides a contrasting yet fitting backline. for his remix of strategy meeting, brothers vibe goes full force and turns the track into a peak time floor killer, with a hypnotic percussive line, a solid project for certain!

lizards are lee forster (1/3 last waltz) and james hadfield (the mainstay of the elizabeth collective). taking over a full side, and clocking in at over 9 minutes, anthemic understatement is a very difficult trick to pull of, but the deepness of feel here, coupled with the restraint shown in rhythm and melody, allows the track space to ebb, flow and truly get under the skin of the listener. it s one of those rare tracks that are as equally beautiful as they are danceable international track lives up to it s name, seeing the north eastern english producers channel the japanese take on the balearic sound as heard in productions by artists such as cosmes.

the debut release from new label, music makes us, comes from prolific producer ekkohaus. a man who needs no introduction with previous releases on the likes of moonharbour, morris audio, circus company, 2020vision and liebe detail. he delivers a blistering 3 track acid tinged ep which kicks off with block parties (dark entry), a driving acid bassline with a great vocal layered on top. -show you saw- on the b-side is a grooving acid house track, whilst the wack finishes off this debut release in syncopated style.

kevin arnemann and daan kemps taped artifact label clocks up its fourth release with a three track offering from outlaw rec boss and key part of the italian serendipity club, namely matthew oh. matthew has previously released on his own label and others like side off, and eloquently marries dub, techno and house into smooth and sensuous sonic landscapes. the opening track psycho hub is an atmospheric and spacious roller with dubbed out drums and pads, coupled with incendiary hi hats urging you along. shroud is seven minutes of slick and spaced out deep techno with liquid synths and clacking hits all racing along and making for a frictionless groove that sucks you right in. finally, get in the fridge slows the tempo down and becomes an even more widescreen and roomy roller with suspensory pads, smeared synths and aqueous sonic details that make you feel like you are floating in sound.

for the next instalment on their vinyl only imprint, fear of flying look to producers old & new for the second volume of their various artist ep. two distinct flavours are packed on the vinyl with the a side being the housier of the two schatrax provides just for fun - following on perfectly from his crossover hit get it right with the same deeply phunked up sample based vibe. ivano tetelepta continues his hot streak on the label with lot, very classic sounding in its approach with a real blissed out & sunkissed groove for the forthcoming hot summer months. techno is the main staple of the flip side the analogue cops offer up introduction under their ocp guise. as youd expect from these analogue warriors the groove is raw, the samples peaking and the beats intense. new artist ste roberts rounds things off with booze which takes its cue from studio 1 records of old but ups the ante with tripped out noises and a tougher edge

the return of faetch - four tracks of real 2016 techno earwiggle is the irish techno label from sunil sharpe following the earth-shifting faetch 1, which was played by practically every techno dj worth their salt, tibetan entity faetch returns for the next part in the ongoing saga. sturdy, rolling drums and fiery vocal bursts on jeidge signal early chaos on the a-side, moving onto the pure techno funk of wershif - a definite ear wiggler if ever we heard one. on the b-side faecel is tense, more heads-down fare, not at all dissimilar to cari lekebusch s classic early drumcode material. closing the ep is cargoe , where jittery broken rhythms ricochet off rave stabs and echoed vocals & sound fx. another crucial faetch four-tracker here, for fans of inventive dancefloor techno.

made in italy returns with a serious various artists features k.a.m.a. and a collaboration between medeiros & archila on the a side. on the b side, gregorio serasin & fulvio ruffert delivered a club hit called harem- and vloon m & rhythm box to complete the v.a.

benales opens the e.p. with radiate, a track where you can clearly hear his influences of the american school of 90s minimal techno. long time dj but new on the production side, this is benales first effort on vinyl. after his initial masterpiece on knotweed records (kw006) and a handful of releases on demented (hiss 1992) and krill, opuswerk is back on knotweed with displacement, a trippy, hard hitting, analogic techno attack: no concession on this one! gonzalo md has already delivered the goods on both knotweed (kw004 and kw011) and decision making theory (dmt 006), as well as a fantastic ep recently on extrasolar. here, with sharp oscillation, he keeps developing his unique style, producing a highly percussive, almost samba-like, piece of techno. label owner philippe petit closes the e.p. with indian summer, a track moving along a warm bassline, bearing some recognisable krautrock influences.

vilena records is 5 years old and decided to celebrate with its first vinyl with 4 tracks. side a is characterized by dub sounds and two tracks: the first one by matt star, german artist who manages repeat music and has productions on labels such as cocoon records, kling klong and many others, the second track is by alex veronesi and paolo mosca aka rejekt. side b is composed of two tech house tracks: the first is by stan garac, spanish artist class 83 that has collaborate with labels like viva music and hall of fame, while the second track is by one of the greatest artists of vilena records, massimo pozzi aka max (italy).

the true definition of a “rare-groove”, “windy city theme” is a triumphant, funky paean to the spiritual home of the blues, jazz and house music. often closely guarded by the rare record cognoscenti this scarce 45 on the chi sounds label was originally released in 1976 and became a solid staple of london’s underground rare-groove scene, finding favour with dj’s like norman jay and giles peterson with the track even appearing on their groundbreaking “journeys by dj” mix. b-side cut “show me the way” is not to be overlooked either, a smooth, stepping soul number with lush orchestration and yearning vocals featuring the amazing arrangements of the chi-sound orchestra, sounding like a beautiful cross between mfsb and marvin gaye. an utterly essential 45 for any serious soul or funk fan, legitimately repressed and remastered with love on dinked 45 for 2016.
