the chaps at off-key hq have been busy digging out the old dat tapes from their attic and sorting out the wheat from the chaff. for this release they go way back to bring you four more tracks courtesy of kimble, a collaboration between matt o brien and matt gates (aka minor planets). kicking things off is the beatless sketch of >lycius<, spiky alien synths flicker and pierce through detached ethereal pads moving in the surrounding weightless space. next up is the ep s lynchpin track, >state of shock<. proper techno is the order of the day here, this is an authentic old school minimal track first recorded in 1996 but left gathering dust ever since. immerse yourself in the subtle dub inflected melodies swirling in your womb bubble while the slamming rhythm track provides the heartbeat. over on the flip we chill things out with the haunting strings and aquatic bassline of >amb<, providing a delicate counterpoint to the upfront style of the a side. the ep is completed with a stunning remix of >state of shock< by minor planets, who layer on a towering bassline and transform the original into a laid back dub workout.

after the big hit >rezolution< , level non zero presents the next limited edition. endless summer , produced by pascal feos, comes with a groovy tribal hypnotic touch. flipside is more floating minimal with deep house flavours... booth tracks will fit perfect in every afterhour set !!

the nottingham based label headed up by inland knights laurence ritchie once again looks to argentina for their next release, following two recent eps by jay west. this time its manuel sahagun providing 3 tracks of deep bumping house for the dirty dancing ep!!

jay lumens 2008 remake is the first mix here which takes the original and takes it down a melodic progressive route, staying true to the original, with a modern twist. next up is quivver, who gives surface a tuff tech house drive, with teasing top line intros weaving in & out, building to a crescendo drop... a bloody marvelous package we reckon!!!

bastian heerhorst, also known as fukkk offf brought the heat at the end of 2007 with electro hip hop stormer >im a freak< which gained huge support from djs and clubs across all genres and time zones. he is back for summer 08 with a three track monster called >rave is king<. if you wanted more after >im a freak<, then youve got it. the a-side kicks off with the single for which the e.p. is named and it starts out with a computer voice chanting >neon lights, party people, revolution, rave is king< backed by a maximized electro basslines straight out of 2008. the flashback comes in after about four minutes taking you back to 1988 with piano stabs from when rave was only a young prince. next up is >rock paper scissors< which is quite simply a monster builder that only gives you rare glimpses of a release. on the b-side things take a decidedly darker turn with >black phantom< another beast with menacing organ grinds and horror movie vocal snips. dark, pounding and relentless, >rave is king< brings you the full view of the royal court of fukkk offf

karolin müller is the first female artist in the hi freaks family and blinky is her long awaited first release. blinky starts with a subversive retro groove, the loop is driven by a flanged hihat and ends up in a funny, funky break, where the theme hits the track and pushes it too the next level. our swedish pac man agaric eats >blinky< alive and gives him a very rough and hypnotic treatment with his remix on the b-side. snake, rattle n roll: the title is just perfect to caracterise this track, imagine a snake winding through a synthesiser modulating itsself over and over again, sounds weired... thats what it is ... a great uncommon halucinating track…

again the tracks were selected carefully, each of them strong on personality and waiting to burst out and put the willies up anyone who believes that techno can be pigeonholed. cue bjorn svin (of mand over board fame) and a brooding monster of a tune that briefly saw a release on his excellent 1999 lp benene pa nakken and was included on the la monde (aka len fakis) at the wheels of steel mix cd the following year. believe that this track is a killer one of those inspired pieces of techno that sticks in your head for days after hearing it for the first time next up label boss jerome hill lets his bass out in the comedic rel und pol, a dancefloor workout with a syncopated speech running throughout. flip over for rob stow and im going to kill her put simply this is nasty (in a nice way) a riff that tears you a new one and edits and tricks galore, this ones gonna give the speakers a battering! last but certainly not least, switzerlands ki yota from mercurochrome and mental industries steps up to deliver us an apocalyptic anthem with wowwow bass, that swiss percussion and lead riffs all snaking around, finally building to a satisfying climax over and out
