after a string of stellar releases with proper trax, cult trip, and mystical disco, grey people graces cgi with his latest. raised in chicago and currently residing in nashville, alex michalski treats us to another side of his sound as he completely forgoes sampling to give us four tracks of raw, stripped-down machine funk. the tunes presented here are culled from various hot and humid sessions in his home studio, armed with an arsenal of equipment old and new and cultivating a sound as diverse as it is nasty. witness the pluralist industrial jackin’ utopia that is grey people—from the crunchy, dissonant piano stomp of *trench foot*, and the equally crunchy, driving, new wave dirge of *moonstruck*, to the cosmic drift and thump of *lock the box* and the funked up fm slap-bass of *wild intentions*.

8th vinyl from gilesku series delivers another talent on display. a very intelligent work from one of the most promising slovenian producers you should pay attention to in the future - vid vai. a three track ep opens with an intelligent minimalistic track somewhere out there - this catchy bassline, wicked and smart game of beats will definitely open your mind and take you on a ride. eleos is uncompromising dancefloor bomb with strong acid line, accompanied with warm synth theme which will take you back in time. to conclude this amazing ep, here is hidden projections track, another acidish gem that proves how talented vid vai is.

here we have one of our favourite kitties. affkt! he is one of the most experienced electronic producers coming from spain. lost in process ep is a two tracked affair backed with the remixes from cristoph and wehbba. the title track is such a delicate cut, boasting the sensual vocals from thomas gandey which evolves the cut into a deep and emotional song that radiates pure joy. on the other hand, boss is a darker and techier cut featuring thomas gandeys robotised voice that perfectly balance the whole cut. the remixes from cristoph and wehbba bring out the burst of energy the release deserves.

having launched with a various artists double pack last year, the untold series returns with a new release that retains this approach, as well the yellow and black vinyl colour scheme, -respectively representing the sun and the darkness-. entitled chapter 1, this double vinyl release features eight new artists whose productions still fall under the banner of spirituality that seems integral to the untold series. very much an international collection, south american furz commences proceedings with the latinised minimalist -420error- and from here chapter 1 runs the gamut of minimal techno with particular highlights coming from andrey zots and exercise in broken techno abstraction, pheek s playful -interne-, and the villalobos-esque -regarde le ciel- from suburbs. here s to further chapters please

slow town records has really picked up the pace this year, delivering essential 12- singles from riccio and qx-i, amongst others. here, they round of 2014 with an ep of positively edible deep house from fouk man hans peeman. in typical peeman fashion, there s plenty of soul to the liquid beats and rich chords of -prologue-, while -monologue- is an attractive saunter through classic detroit deep house with the restless energy of a chicago production. mr k-s remixes the title track, delivering a heavily percussive version that sounds like a plea to head towards the dancefloor, pronto. a touch darker and altogether heavier, it offers an excellent alternative to peeman s eyes-wide-shut original.

the much loved, slightly mysterious but always firing r-zone series rolls on to its 12th release here. this time the dutch collective serves up five searing club tracks that are as raw and energetic as ever and look back to a 90s uk heyday for their inspiration. first up is beginning of life, with old school loon bird calls, lots of rave intentions and nebulous pads all creating a sweaty atmosphere atop rough hewn drums.

after being returned from his abduction by aliens from the hidden planet nibiru, dj overdose was given an alien synthesizer the haex-hrll as a thank you for all the cerebral research the aliens did on him. on returning back to earth all dj overdose had to do was finish the 6 tracks the aliens had started to work on, which became this ep. straight forward techno hop electro funk without any fancy-pants pretentious hooha. its like a black and white movie which makes you think why the hell is there colors anyway?! after completion, the only record label he could imagine being fit for such rawness would be viewlexx... and so here it is.

chris “bam bam” westbrook is one of the unsung heroes of chicago house. his westbrook label was responsible for releasing a slew of quality records from artists like armando & mike dunn as well as his own productions. one record that mysteriously never officially came out on the label was “hot spot” from 1987, never making it past white label stage. here, for the very first time, “hot spot” finally gets a full release boasting all 4 alternate mixes of the track by the man himself. suggestive lyrics, chattering drum machine rhythms and uplifting pianos in the classic raw chicago style are what makes “hot spot” a special re-issue. harking back to a headier time, the record still slams hard today and shows contemporary producers how house music should really be done. a long lost, un-released nugget from the old school, re-mastered from the original dat and officially released for the first time with original westbrook label artwork in conjunction with bam bam / westbrook records, chicago usa.

people must jam have an undisputed three for three on the score board, and it comes as no surprise that this serious second innings in the floor jammers va series is heading straight for the outfield too ! it s a truly international affair, as chicago disco don rahaan takes the lead with an irresistible uptempo jazz-funk rewire while uk producer andy ash is next up to the plate, rearranging and amping up a teddy p classic on the b, tokyo s beaten space probe takes on millie jackson s incendiary we got to hit it off (as recently hacked up by tom trago) bsp leaves in the best bits here as the powerhouse groove gets a respectful renovation. finally out in the sticks wrap it all up eighties fashion, as a slamming bassline led drum machine jam powers us to fourth base. strictly limited to 300 copies.

hot creations call upon viva boss steve lawler for their next release, rounding 2014 off with a bang - an amazing year for the leading label. with such a widespread knowledge of music and the industry, here lawler gives us a musical education. house record is a dose of old school 80s house injected with a modern twist with city nights following suit on the b-side. there is no doubt both tracks will dominate the dance floor at peak time, capturing each heart with their infectious bouncing bass-lines, pacey percussions and all round feel good energy. this is proving to be a huge release for hot creations and steve, featuring heavily in jamie, richy, lee and steves sets… this is seriously hot!

what better way to follow up andy meechams (chicken lips / emperor machine) huge gino fontaine originals than a duo of remixes from balearic chieftains pete herbert & stratus as one half of reverso 68 alongside phil mison, and in his own right pete has been behind a ton of mesmerising sunrise and sunset workouts, and he’s more than delivered here - crisp and club ready percussion, those stark punk-funkin’ guitars and his trademark synth work all conspire to cook up a storm on the floor martin jenkins and mat anthonys stratus outfit (remember their superb *spring tide ep* on aficionado last year ?) take a pop at the sublime konkondo on the flip and what a masterpiece it is ! a ten minute, utterly absorbing and expertly evolving piece, which flips the darker elements of the original into a mesmerising, cinematic, early 90s style balearic epic.

johannes heil and markus suckut team up for the new cocoon release and what they came up with is simply amazing! a techno monster! the two high profile producers seem to merge various techno influences out of the last 15 years here but they manage it to do this with their very own hand writing. the opening track intuition appears like robert hood and speedy j helped out triggering the right sounds in the studio.

kievs yan cook here steps up from sister label ann aimee to big daddy delsin, as the two imprints have been fused into one going forward, with boris tellegen aka deltas carefully designed graphic covers also moving to the main label. earlier in the year, the techno man released morse with the dutch outfit, and has also impressed on labels like on records, planet rhythm and dynamic reflection with his ravey, heavily textured sounds

lower parts is a greek label involved in music, fashion, art and multimedia projects and it has been since 2013. after starting by showcasing lots of local talent, next up on the label is international talent andreas gehm aka elec pt1, who gets remixed by damcase and anoplois. german andreas is an acid and techno innovator who has released on mathematics and chiwax and here comes correct with two great new cuts.

i.vy presents her third release on ther own label, chinese laundry. after the first two volumes, continuing the saga in vinyl on the label, also time she s proposing a release based on the acid sound, in fact, from here come the names of the three tracks of -vol. 3 -, sonically distinct from forms of sound in both the quality of the tone and in the structure, leading to a complete trip right in the underground scene. the a-side exposes two tracks both dictated by a bassline, a sequence of acid accompanied by a drum-machine percussion, the sounds derive from -machines- that have guided the analogue creative artist, exposing grit, intensity and quality defined the synth that has a continuous evolution throughout its duration, with a sound much richer in harmonics. the other side of the coin is the b-side, a product of the collaboration between i.vy & the 90 s peacefrog producer solid state, a true evolution from the first two tracks, while following the lodging acid, the b-side results more aggressive and determined, demonstrating a mindset based on a building techno, with a strong impact on the dancefloor.

after his highly acclaimed sunset in kreuzberg ep, dib001 shifts gears and goes straight into techno mode: constantine is a steady number, its acid bass line slugging around a dark lfo pulse and punching snares. piano chords slow down the pace here and there, adding a dreamy touch to the mood. on remix duties, idriss drafts in gaetano parisio, the godfather of the italian techno scene: his track has a more percussive feel, with a classy swinging rhythm that takes over the original groove.

the third release from wavefreform again comes to us from the east, and this time around it marks a reformation of sound for both the label and the artist. half of the long-running georgian duo greenbeam & leon, boyd schidt is a producer with over a decade of work already under his belt whose first releases emerged in 2007. as a solo artist, his career dates to 2010 with digital releases on georgia’s front rec, fvf records, and emote music, and a track on the new vinyl compilation from studio r°. with the hard, broken kick pattern, elevated tempo, and nods to electro, the a-side ‘phantom’, a collaboration with subex, is a change of pace for the artist and the hardest thing yet to emerge from wavereform. dubwise use of effects shows the same hands still at work, but the sound elements, granulated blasts of static and drop-based structure of the track hold strong parallels to the rejuvenated techno sound currently emerging from the uk. the b-side, ‘structure’, recalls the previous work of the artist: subtle, building dub techno rich in detail and with the dancefloor firmly in mind. there is clear experience at work here with his deliberate deployment and manipulation of elements as the track struts along while enveloping the listener in its smaller details. as it pauses and takes an extended breakdown, the details rush forwards, but it finds renewed force to power itself to the close. coming in this case from an established producer with a long history, this kind of control is not surprising, but it is more indication of the riches of the east that have yet to be discovered by audiences worldwide.

that future starts right here with the release of the check point ep and a title track that thunders straight out of the blocks with its steamroller kick drum and mighty bass synth. wade then strips things back, rolling out pulsing bass and percussive vibes on dark shadows before dropping more imperious drum work as he closes the ep with sunday in the sky.

looking back it has been a killer year for dj haus and his pair of labels, unknown to the unknown and hot haus, and it seems like he wont be easing the gears down from unfcknrelenting now december has arrived. the latest hot haus release (the sixth issued since september!) sees a welcome return for whippersnapper producer palace whose vision 12 inch is the third record issued on the uttu offshoot in a year! if you liked previous palace records, you love the three tracks here which are all raw and effective dj tools sprinkled with immediacy, individuality and nagging basslines - *solstice* in particular is a real burner of a track. dont sleep!

for the third in its fifth anniversary release series, stroboscopic artefacts brings together tracks from xhin, tommy four seven, kangding ray and dsrcd. xhins blade moth, previously released digitally by meerestief, finds today new (and remastered) life on sa. it is deep and propulsive, with scattershot percussion reverberating around finely tuned kicks and sci-fi oscillations. the detailed sound design and experimental quirks are typical of the producer, they made for a stunning debut album on sa in 2011, and here elevate the functional 4x4 skeleton into a fantastically ethereal piece of dance music
