munich based slam city jams kicks off 2019 with their 5th release. label heads rhode & brown gather four of their favorite artists from around the world to remix last year’s successful wave 100 ep. with remixes by bell towers (public possession), mr. ho (klasse wrecks), c.k (regelbau) and bostro pesopeo (permanent vacation).

canadian duo mdd make their slam debut following on from their first release in 2018 on and imprint inner surface. unforgiving, dark and distorted techno at its best. somber vocals and murky atmospheres create a wicked tension throughout the ep. manni dee also features for the first time on slam and gives his contribution by remixing opal fall into a driving dance floor stomper.

label head honchos rhode & brown finally debut on their own imprint, slam city jams, after putting out music on fellow labels toy tonics and public possession. produced over the past two years, the wave 100 ep might be the most versatile record by the munich-based fellas so far. on the title track we have an euphoric hint of 80s synth nostalgia, slapped bass and banging woodsticks (did someone say safri duo?!). sparkle on a2 feels like the joy of a fresh breeze on hot summer days whilst living la vida loca in the clouds - b/w phat bass, sweet flutes & strings. on the flip there is love lane, a classic house track with a funked up bassline, shuffling snares and the most erotic vocal in human history. moon bells on b2 is the soundtrack to that road trip you did back in 86 with a juno 106 arpeggiator bassline, percussive drums and airy synths all around. over europe on b3 rounds off this special 5-tracker with beautiful ambient spheres straight from outta space.

slam and obscure shape & shdw step up for the second wave of radio slave ‘grindhouse’ remixes on rekids this february. one of techno’s most iconic records, ‘grindhouse’ first appeared on radio slave’s ‘no sleep’ series before spawning multiple remixes from dubfire, danton eeprom, terence fixmer and nic fanciulli. kick-started by len faki, last year saw the announcement of a series of remixes with more to come from vatican shadow, markus suckut, lady starlight and special request. complete with relentless kicks, sinister drones and industrial elements, part two is not for the faint-hearted. starting with slam, the soma bosses keep things dark, with rattling top lines and echoing effects resulting in a truly decadent techno floor destroyer. following a remix of radio slave’s ‘vision’ in 2016, obscure shape & shdw’s abilities are held in high regard by the rekids owner and their rework of ‘grindhouse’ reinforces why. complete with a rumbling lowend, metallic melodies and soaring synths, the from another mind founders continue to establish themselves as two of techno’s most exciting names.

long time friend of the label myler finally makes his south london analogue material debut with ‘lord of the asbo’. the ep starts with driving kicks, hypnotic wandering synths and the noisy dissonant stabs of ‘mandem’ before taking a more melancholy turn. ‘shutter windows’ slows things down with eerie echoes, dusty thudding kick drums and subtle synths before ‘whiskey & white women’ finishes the last of the originals with a drum track full of trippy percussion and masterful groove. bad boy keepsakes is back on the label after slam003 and finishes the ep with his take on ‘shutter windows’.

dustin zahn has gained over 10 years of experience a unique musical diversity as a producer and as a performer. after his recent release on drumcode he is on suara with this enormous ep. *calm like a bomb* is a constant and regular bomb dropping that if you start dancing it will leave you exhausted. it is such a powerful track! this amazing track comes backed with two remixes from two of the best producers in the worldwide scene: paco osuna and slam. osuna does an incredible groovier and darker production while slam brings the cut to another techno level. this is definetely one of the eps of the year!
