relentless as any artist peven everett has the knack of putting out lots of beautiful unique songs. voted number one rnb artist in chicago, peven has a massive following of soul heads around the world. we at bombay have big fans from day one with his early work with roy davis jr. and the classic bombay release men from the nile “watch them come”. his career has seen him drop some classic records including the “studio confessions” project. his bombay releases are 2 dance floor cuts from his deep collection. “heat up”, a catchy vocal cut on a super funky groove with warm keys and a bumping bassline. along with “when we’re together”, a chicago style dance floor loop with layered with peven’s infectious harmonies. the additional heat up club edit courtesy of the awaaz kids adds a thump and snap to the song for people who like that.

variable is the first compilation on pi electronics, which also kicks off the new catalogue peva. this various artists release includes the works of several artists involved in the label till now, along with some very familiar faces to pi that have been supporting the parties in the past years. the aim was to bring the main label roster - artists with original music on pi, such as jk flesh, ontal and damcase - under the same roof as artists that have been with the pi electronics project since its early days: the label s party residents, 3.14, nemmett and das along with other fellow athenians, unhuman, bmsk and the project “i am legion, for we are many”. the outcome will be available in cd, vinyl and digital format, while the vinyl sampler will feature jk flesh, ontal, nemmett and bmsk.

a defining moment in dance music history was the day that roy davis jr. teamed with vocalist and writer peven everett in 1997 to create this deep, ethereal, soul-music gem that helped launch an entire musical movement known affectionately as speed garage. the live garage mix is the most popular but the other mixes have grown in popularity over time. it is hard to believe that this record is almost 20 years old yet it still sounds as fresh today as it did so long ago. truly a classic that deserves to be celebrated by a new generation of dance music lovers. gabriel play!

a word from label boss chris farrell: this is the new one on idle hands, from us producer strategy. i first came across paul dickows work when he released a 12 inch called *world house* on his own community library label back in 2005. it blew me away. in the ensuing years my friend duncan george who promoted bristol’s best electronic music night - under_score tried on numerous ocasions to book him for a bristol date but it never quite hapened due to the usual things that go wrong in club land. in those years duncan kept in touch with paul and last year suggested to him that it might be worth sending some tracks to me, which he did at the start of 2013… add a peverelist remix and you have the tracks here before you, dub reggae informed house and psychedelic 2 step vibes.
