10 years after blu and exile released their magnum opus below the heavens, the california duo have reunited to release 14 tracks from the original 2007 sessions. in the beginning: before the heavens contains previously heard songs and unreleased gems – the best of the best chosen from over 40 songs in the vault. their third collaboration follows 2012s give me my flowers while i can still smell them, and is slated for an october release. in the beginning: before the heavens is made of up songs that are raw and untouched, keeping the authenticity of blu and exile’s creativity at the time. the album has guest appearances from familiar names like dr. oop, donel smokes, aloe blacc, and blame one. while soul provider, another day, and party of two appeared on blus lifted ep, the majority of these songs showcase blu rapping at his peak, maintaining his underground attitude as he dishes on reaching star status (constellations), getting radio play (on the radio), or opposing views in a problem-ridden world (youre gonna die someday). exile, meanwhile, builds a golden hip-hop era feel with head-nodding samples and dj scratches.

exile began his musical career in 2000, releasing drum & bass on labels such as beta and moving shadow, but as the years progressed, his sound started to become more complicated and abstract. this was mostly due to his obsession with the reaktor software, which enabled him to spend much of his time creating new and interesting sounds from scratch. his debut full-length, 2006s pro agonist, saw him add elements of breakcore to his constantly mutating yper-breakbeats, but that gradual change in style is nothing compared to the total departure that hes taken on listening tree. long-term fans may be shocked to know that listening tree is peppered with exiles own vocal tracks, as he tackles issues such as britains buy-now-pay-later culture, and even the dynamic nature of the universe on family galaxy, the first single. >family galaxy< is about the constant process of change that underpins everything, explains exile. its a tale from a thingless world where nothing stays the same. as now shines its shifting shades on then, so our ideas of what we have done and will do continually morph.the result is an eccentric electro-pop album that is just as likely to appeal to fans of hot chip as it is otto von schirach

nice price deal !!! krake 001 is a lp + cd compilation that features tracks by artists who played in 2012 for us. a few of them have been released on other labels before, but the bigger part of the material is exclusive. some of the tracks were even recorded live at our festival. there are dark atmospheric drones by the likes of thomas köner, shrubbn!!, cassegrain and dadub, sweet melodic pieces by ulrich schnauss, bersarin quartett, kid606 and barker, a bass heavy live recorded jam session by tim exile, mechanical grooves by perc and swarm intelligence, melancholic epics by goner, alex smoke and lakker, and last but not least a sweet minimalistic dub track by grandmaster pole.
