summer has all but gone as the darkness draws in, the clocks go back, and fina records releases something a little different for the night owls. cosmic dutch space cadets morning factory step up for fina 005 with a slow motion rhythm and tone ep. having previously appeared for yore records and brother from another mother 2020 vision, the guys have been busy in the windmill whittling a perfect autumn release. sultans of swing ep doesnt quite shadow dire straits but it certainly delivers. hypnotic title track of the same name is features futureproof basslines, layered with an enigmatic drowning echo-led synth while >lady< adds a different finish to the wax. here we find d angelo s 96 vocal hook effortlessly breaking through the shuffling punchy bass.

the long awaited first release of stavroz on denature records has arrived! this 5-track ep starts with -zorrow-. this track sounds like an invitation to wander and get lost in the jungle. by the second track, perron 11 the tempo gets more vigorous opening the way to the main track kasambila and its enchanting ethnic vibes, on the other side of the ep, xs pls (pronounce it extra small please) has this unique instrumental groove that four-piece band masters so well. the ep ends with the title it was all a ruse , a melancholic ballad through mystical lands.
digging 80s pop obscurities has long been part of emotional rescues mission statement and the unearthing of this cover of the talking heads classic by the little known, italian new wave band politrio for a limited 7inch press is a worthy addition.
lauer always rhymes with power. proven by countless remixes, productions and projects like arto mwambe, black spuma, talamanca system or tuff city kids and his own-brand. there arent many dance floors left that havent been blessed by all this glory. now, the aptly titled third album of frankfurts prime export regarding all things melodic, teenaged and synthesized, intensifies, condenses and hones the sound, he has been developing for years: a topical take on classic dance and 80ies pop figures, disco music in a closet (lauer is still in denial), singing arpeggios, android choirs, beautiful bass lines and sometimes the apparitional architecture of house music.
prolific uk deep house hero andy compton is back on his fabled peng stable with a new project entitled blue dream, and an album called california dreaming which unsurprisingly deals in gorgeous sun soaked tones aimed squarely at the loungey end of his plush, melodic repertoire. from the slinking funk of -betsy- to the low-slung beats and smooth-as-silk bass of -disco baby,- compton shows himself to be completely at home rolling at this kind of tempo, no doubt projecting himself to the malibu beach idyll you can see on the cover. music so radiant, you d best slap on some sunblock.
