next up on first word records, we welcome the return of don leisure, with an ep of beats that see his two alter-egos go head-to-head, shaboo vs halal cool j.

this is a journey into sound. a series of journeys across the globe, in-fact. this time with don leisure from darkhouse family. let us tell you a story. firstly, we first need to answer a question. who is shaboo? it began in africa. nasser barwani was the son of shabudin. at the age of 15, nasser (don s uncle) left kenya and hitch-hiked his way to london. nasser entered the movie business, occasionally finding himself in front of the camera, acting in bollywood films. it was then that nasser changed his surname to adopt a screen name - shaboo.
5 instrumental hip hop tracks, linked together in a truly unique style and fashion, this is much more than a beat tape. this is a journey into sound. for real.

nice price deal !!! expanding on the success of forward strategy group, label boss smear has fashioned the new minimalist outfit, retail & leisure, with a new addition of the fsg corporate family. retail & leisure is in many ways the polar opposite of fsg, ditching their trademark dense, heavy techno in favour of simplicity, space and a more systematic approach to composition. side a strips right down to the bare essentials, leaving little more than an ice-cold rhythm, bleep and hiss, creating a deep mix-tool for fans of artists such as mika vainio and sleeparchive. the b side features a remix by fsgs latest recruit adrian ross. mechanical scrapes and clangs mesh with deep, pressing kicks to create a sound which is dense and impenetrable. ross is a unique entity in techno: with a genuine outsiders take on the genre, he is an exciting prospect and a great asset to the group. the final track is r&ls take on dubstep, with dry, chalky percussion, discordant siren and churning bass. snares spin, shuffle and shatter against the tracks main, oppressive rhythms. the record ends with some valuable advice on where one should position ones feet

the berlin-based techno and house producer and dj oliver koletzki has fully committed himself to his roots for this album. they can be traced back to pop music of the 80ies and 90ies, while his productions still manage to transport the fresh energy of today’s electronic music productions. großstadtmärchen is a perfect example for a producers album: oliver koletzki has created a musically compact long player while working together with many different singers. both established artists like mieze katz from the german electro-pop outfit mia., the hot german pop-rock-singer axel bosse, critically acclaimed indie band kate mosh as well as newcomers such as fran, pyur and juli holz have contributed to the album. the result are ten songs that easily fluctuate between catchy pop tracks, modern house grooves and 80ies synthesizer pop yet still maintaining a very own koletzkieske sound dynamic. großstadtmärchen, which translates as the tale of the big city starts off with this is leisure. famous pop singer mieze katz has put down her sexy voice on a guitar-based song pattern that functions as an ideal introduction into the craziness of the big city tales. after hearing this, the listener is directly fully drawn into this world when hearing juli holzs softly whispering voice singing about the dilemmas of love in the big city on zuckerwatte (single release date: 7.9.09). this is a very fine electro-pop tune. coming up next oliver koletzki and axel bosse board an underground train that takes them around the berlin u-bahn system and back.

from dive bar to record label, paradise palms’ fifth release is a follow up instalment to its debut compilation lp, ‘bonnie tropical’. featuring music primarily made in edinburgh and glasgow, the collection shines a light on some of the most exciting music being in scotland today. with contributions from 10 acts, this compilation is a charismatic journey into a new generation of modern electronic and experimental dance music.

helsinkis lauri saine is the storyteller for this, the third chapter of fools & fables. pleasingly his irresistible releases dont come along all that often, but when they do, they justifiably make serious waves. small remedies, takes us on a journey to a side of saine we seldom see. first things first, blush cuts a breezy, cheerful path through a warm analogue space, with the mid-tempo throb of sampled rhythms to keep you from drifting too far off course. casual wears altogether looser pants as we just bob to and fro in a hammock while rum-soaked session players jam away in a distant speakeasy. the tropical breeze blows free through leisure song too, as we begin to get the impression finland might actually be a small pacific island.

its remix time! as both these versions are slightly longer than the original versions on the 7inch we decided size up to a 10inch.

big support van oa. bas mooy, dvs1, perc, tommy four seven, go hiyama, paul mac and many more... just before the summer hits, were breaking it down with a massive techno bomb from the subs of scotland. this time its the mighty forward strategy group which will be responsible for some serious damage on the floor. the squad which delivered some amazing tunes for perc traxx and recently did a podcast for clr recordings are now up for a true banger on dynamic reflection. on this ep they split the force and bring both their own solo actions. smear takes over with >inert<, tweaking his synths into phased edges with a phat groove on top. the >retail & leisure< remix is more subdued and trips away with a smooth acid bassline through the track. on the b-side the other half of fsg. patrick walker smashes down the door with a more darker groove. pounding kickdrums, dark rhythms and smooth soundscapes is whats his recipe is for >phase linear<. this will definitely hit the big rooms!! boex & miller breaking down the beat in their rework, which makes the perfect balance for this ep. all n all a superior release by these gents and remix heavyweights. lets pray for more of this pure quality stuff and keep our eyes on the the future. the scene need more labels like this which reflects the current techno movement and promises loads more of that sweet stuff in days to come... dynamic reflection will represent only the true spirit of pure techno, they will put only the quality stuff back on the dancefloor!
